Chapter 127: Chapter 127 Jealousy and Jewelry
Elara
I finished my meeting at 7 PM and walked to the parking lot, surprised to find Dominic leaning against my car door. I hadn’t expected him to be there.
"You’re done already?" I asked, keeping my voice casual.
Dominic gazed at me with those intense eyes of his.
"I picked up something for you at the auction," he said, his voice low and smooth. "A necklace. Want to see if you like it?"
I took the elegant box he offered and opened it, eyeing the emerald necklace inside. It was beautiful, no doubt about that. Though I wasn’t sure it would go with the evening dress I’d chosen for Zack’s mating ceremony.
Still, I wasn’t one to be ungrateful. "It’s gorgeous. You really didn’t have to spend that much."
"It’s nothing," he replied, his eyes narrowing slightly. "As long as you don’t betray me, I’d move heaven and earth if you asked."
I stiffened at his words. We’d only been apart for a few hours—why was there suddenly an edge to his voice?
Something was clearly eating at him.
Dominic’s lips thinned into a tight line. "Take my car. I’ll drive you tomorrow, and you can leave yours here at the company."
His tone left no room for argument. I didn’t protest, sliding into the passenger seat of his sleek ride.
The silence stretched between us for maybe thirty seconds before he broke it.
As soon as he fastened his seatbelt, Dominic glanced at me sideways. "Didn’t you mention wanting to switch assistants before?"
"Have you found a replacement?" he asked, his tone carefully neutral.
I answered without much thought. "Yeah, I have. It’s a guy, though. He’s still on probation. If things don’t work out, I’ll switch to a female assistant."
I turned to look at him directly. "Does it bother you that I have a male assistant?"
Honestly, I hadn’t thought about how that might look to him. Our mating bond might be contractual, but we needed to keep things straight with each other. Even without love, drama was better avoided.
Dominic’s Adam’s apple bobbed slightly. "No, it doesn’t."
"Good. All my employees are strictly professional, so there’s really nothing to worry about."
He forced a smile. "Fair enough."
But his body language told a different story.
I could practically feel the jealousy radiating off him like heat waves.
Whatever had triggered this mood, he wasn’t sharing.
The guy was just possessive by nature—Alpha King or not.

My flight was scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. I brought my assistant along for the business trip.
As soon as we landed, I rushed to attend a client meeting.
The one advantage of having a male assistant was that he could help with drinks, but today was different.
I had to handle everything myself.
Even after taking medicine beforehand, by the end of the event, my stomach was burning badly.
"Elara , should I take you to a hospital? You keep holding your stomach," Sam said, looking worried.
I waved my hand. "No need."
Just then, Dominic called. I told Sam to keep driving and answered.
"How was your meeting?" Dominic asked. His deep voice sounded familiar and comforting.
I leaned back in my seat and closed my eyes. "Just finished. How about yours?"
Dominic laughed softly. "Mine’s done too. Just wanted to check on you. Text me when you get to the hotel."
"I will."
After hanging up, I felt sweat forming on my forehead. My stomach pain was getting worse by the minute.
I didn’t think I could make it through the night. "Sam, find a pharmacy and stop. I need stomach medicine."
"Right away,Elara."
After the next light, we stopped at a 24 hour pharmacy.
Sam got out and came back fifteen minutes later with water and medicine.
He opened the back door and gave them to me. "I opened the water for you,Elara."
I took the water and medicine. But just as I was about to swallow the white pill, I paused.
My wolf senses told me something was wrong.
Sam looked nervous. "Is something wrong,Elara?"
I smiled. "Nothing. You’re making me nervous by watching. Go sit in front. I can take this myself."
Sam hesitated, then nodded. "Of course."
He watched me in the mirror as I pretended to swallow the pill. Then he looked satisfied and started driving again.
"You should rest,Elara. We’ll be at the hotel soon."
I closed my eyes and agreed.
Ten minutes later, when we were close to the hotel, he said softly, "Elara, we’re at the hotel."
I stayed still in the back seat. I didn’t answer.
I could tell he felt relieved.
He parked and quickly opened the back door.
Just as he was about to touch me, I opened my eyes. "What are you doing? Did you think I’d be unconscious after drinking that water?"
His eyes went wide.
"I called the police, Sam. How will you explain this to them?"
Police sirens got loud as cars surrounded us.
Sam panicked. "How did you know?"
"Please," I said with a cold laugh. "I’ve seen Selina’s tricks before. I won’t fall for the same thing twice."
