Chapter 158: Chapter 158: Too Busy For Grandma

Estelle’s POV

I wasn’t surprised at all to receive Dorothy’s call. After all, knowing Dorothy, once she knew what she wanted, she would do anything in her power to achieve it. She didn’t get her reputation in Moonveil for no good reason. Dorothy had the grit and determination that was needed of a Luna of her time.

However, at the same time, I also wasn’t convinced about Dorothy not doing well. Werewolves had insane healing abilities. Unless poisoned or born with a defect, it was usually impossible for them to feel sick for a long period of time. Even I, who was wolfless, hardly found myself sick. Our immunity was naturally stronger than that of an average human.

But there might be an off chance, considering Dorothy was starting to grow old. I considered the possibility of Dorothy telling the truth. Nevertheless, I played along to her story first.

“Have you been resting well? Have you seen a healer yet?” I asked.

“I have, dear,” Dorothy replied. Her voice sounded tired, though I couldn’t tell if it was genuine or not. “The healer said I need rest. It might be due to the long years spent outside, away from family. She thinks it might be good to be surrounded by loved ones at the moment.”

I couldn’t help but purse my lips hearing that. The healer’s advice sounded convenient.

“Will you be returning soon?” Dorothy asked.

I sighed and looked in the direction of the meeting room. Ever since I returned, Blackmoon had been busy. Things were looking up, and there were many projects kicking in.

Results had been good so far, and I would like to make use of this time and chance, since Benedict and Helena were being surprisingly passive at the moment. I didn’t want to wait for them to strike back before tackling matters.

“Things have been busy lately and it might be difficult to step away,” I told her.

“Too busy even to see your grandmother?” Dorothy’s voice carried a hint of hurt.

My heart softened. Dorothy probably wouldn’t pester me if Asher could hold the fort, but it seemed like even Asher had run out of ideas. Considering how stubborn Dorothy was, I could still afford to give Asher the credit of trying, since Dorothy had indeed kept silent for the last few days.

“I’ll drop by today,” I said finally.

Dorothy’s voice brightened immediately. “Oh, wonderful! I’ll be waiting for you, dear.”

After ending the call, I entered the meeting room again. Bosco looked up from his presentation materials.

“Is everything alright?” he asked, concern evident in his voice.

“I need to return to Moonveil for a moment,” I said.

Bosco’s expression darkened immediately. “Do you need me to come along?”

I shook my head. I looked at the other members attending the meeting. “You may all continue. Bosco, send me the meeting minutes once you’re done.”

Then I left the room.

Third POV

Right after Estelle left, Caleb entered the meeting room. He scanned the room and noticed the empty chair at the head of the table.

“Where’s Estelle?” he asked.

Bosco looked up from his notes. “You just missed her. She returned to Moonveil.”

Caleb sighed and ran a hand through his red hair.

“What’s wrong?” Bosco asked, picking up on the tension in Caleb’s posture.

“The Lycan King is looking for her, but couldn’t reach her,” Caleb explained. “His Beta Mason reached out to me to ask if Estelle is alright.”

Bosco frowned. “Should we call her back?”

Caleb shook his head. “She didn’t pick up my calls either. I’ll just let Mason know she’s safe but busy.”

Estelle’s POV

I had just driven into Moonveil when I saw a child running out of the pack house. I slammed on the brakes, stopping the car just in time before it could hit Finn.

My heart hammered in my chest as I watched the little boy stumble but keep running. Behind him, Kendra emerged from the pack house entrance, clearly out of breath.

“Finn! Come back here right now!” Kendra called after him.

Finn spun around, his face red with anger and tears streaming down his cheeks. “I don’t want to go back to the infirmary! You’re a bad woman!”

Kendra’s face flushed with frustration. “Your father said you need to take your medicine. Stop being difficult!”

“No!” Finn shouted. “It tastes horrible and it makes me feel sick!”

I turned off the engine and sat there for a moment, watching the scene unfold. Finn looked thinner than I remembered, and there were dark circles under his eyes. His condition seemed to have worsened.

Kendra noticed my car and her expression shifted to one of surprise. She probably hadn’t expected me to return so soon, if at all.

Finn, meanwhile, had stopped running and was now standing in the middle of the driveway, breathing heavily. His small chest rose and fell rapidly, and I could see he was struggling.

I unbuckled my seatbelt and opened the car door.
