Chapter 132: Chapter 132 Safe Haven Return
Seraphina’s POV
My eyelids fluttered open against the persistent pounding in my skull that had become far too familiar. The white ceiling stared back at me, and recognition flooded through my consciousness like warm honey.
My bedroom. My sanctuary. Not some cold prison or underground cell, but the safety of my own space.
Relief crashed over me in waves as I attempted to push myself upright. Every muscle in my body screamed in protest, as though I had been trampled by wild horses. The pain was bone deep and unforgiving.
That’s when I noticed him.
Julian sat slumped in the armchair beside my bed, his powerful frame folded awkwardly into the furniture that was never meant to accommodate his size. His dark head had fallen back at an uncomfortable angle, and his chest rose and fell with the steady rhythm of exhaustion. He looked utterly drained.
Something warm and fierce bloomed in my chest at the sight of him. He had come for me. He had found me when I needed him most.
My wolf stirred within me, purring with contentment. ’He never left. He stayed right there, watching over us for hours. Our mate is completely exhausted.’
The knowledge sent tendrils of love spiraling through my heart. Despite everything that had happened, despite the chaos and fear, I was home. I was safe. Dorian no longer had his claws in me.
Voices drifted up from the kitchen below, and my heart leaped with desperate recognition.
Theo. Elena. My precious children.
It felt as though centuries had passed since I had seen their faces, heard their voices. The need to hold them, to confirm they were real and whole, pulled at me like a physical force. My body protested as I forced myself to stand, legs trembling like a newborn foal’s, but I refused to listen. Nothing could keep me from my babies.
I stumbled from the room, one hand pressed against the wall for support, and made my unsteady way toward the staircase. Each step sent small shockwaves through my battered frame, but the sound of laughter from below urged me forward.
The aroma of something sweet and comforting wafted up to greet me. Pancakes, maybe, or fresh muffins.
As I reached the bottom step, Theo’s tousled head appeared above the kitchen counter. The moment his bright eyes locked with mine, his entire face transformed into pure sunshine.
"Mommy!" His shriek of joy nearly shattered my already fragile composure.
He launched himself across the room like a tiny missile, colliding with my legs and wrapping his small arms around my waist with fierce determination. The impact sent pain shooting through my tender ribs, but I would have endured a thousand times worse for this moment.
I dropped to my knees, ignoring my body’s protests, and pulled him against me with desperate intensity. He felt so solid, so warm, so beautifully alive in my arms.
"My sweet, wonderful boy," I managed through the tears that were already streaming down my cheeks. I pressed my face into his soft hair, breathing in his familiar scent.
It had always been just the two of us against everything the world could throw at us. The thought of how frightened he must have been during my absence nearly broke me completely.
He pulled back just enough to study my face with those serious eyes that seemed far too old for his years. "Mommy, why did you go away?" The innocence in his question, paired with the hurt underneath, cut straight through my heart like a blade.
I couldn’t find words that would make sense to him. How could I explain the darkness that had tried to swallow me whole? Instead, I peppered his face with kisses, tasting salt from my own tears.
"I’m here now, sweetheart. Right here with you."
I held him close for several more heartbeats before lifting my gaze to find Elena watching us from beside the table. She clutched a small muffin in her hands, her expression cautious and uncertain.
My heart ached for this little girl who barely knew me but had been caught up in my chaos nonetheless. I extended one hand toward her, keeping my voice gentle.
"Elena, would you like a hug too, darling?"
She hesitated, her lips pressed together in consideration. For a terrifying moment, I thought she might refuse. But then she nodded shyly and approached us with careful steps. Unlike Theo’s enthusiastic tackle, she settled against me with quiet grace, her thin arms circling my neck.
I held her carefully, grateful beyond words for her trust.
Heavy footsteps thundered down the stairs, and I looked up to see Julian taking the steps three at a time. His hair was mussed from sleep, but his eyes were wild with panic until they found me. Relief transformed his features completely.
"Seraphina," he breathed, crossing the room in quick strides. He dropped to his knees beside our little huddle, enveloping all three of us in his strong embrace. "God, I was terrified. So damn terrified."
I leaned into his solid warmth, feeling truly safe for the first time since this nightmare began. "I’m okay," I whispered against his shoulder. "You saved me. You brought me home."
His eyes searched mine intensely, as though trying to read the truth written in my soul. Then, without warning, he scooped me up in his arms, cradling me against his chest like something precious.
"Kids," his deep voice carried easily through the room, "Mommy needs to rest a bit more. She’s still recovering."
Theo’s face scrunched into a familiar pout. "But I want to play with her right now!"
Despite everything, I found myself smiling genuinely for the first time in days. "I promise we’ll play very soon, my love. Let me just clean up and feel human again, then I’ll come right back down. Deal?"
He considered this with the gravity of a supreme court judge before nodding reluctantly. "Okay. But don’t take forever."
Julian carried me effortlessly up the stairs and directly into the bathroom. The scent of lavender bath salts and clean linens surrounded us as he set me gently on the edge of the large tub.
"How did you find me?" I asked, studying his face. The memory of my capture remained frustratingly hazy, but I knew I had been moving constantly, trying to stay ahead of Dorian’s reach.
He knelt before me, his large hands framing my face with infinite tenderness. His thumbs traced my cheekbones as his eyes burned with emotion that made my breath catch.
"That doesn’t matter right now," he murmured, his voice rough with feeling. "All that matters is you’re here. You’re safe. I have my mate back."
His gaze dropped to my lips, and the air between us suddenly crackled with electric tension. He leaned closer slowly, giving me every opportunity to pull away. But I didn’t want to. I needed this connection, needed him.
I closed my eyes and tilted my face up to meet him halfway.
His lips were soft at first, tentative, then grew more demanding as he deepened the kiss with a low groan. His hands tangled in my hair, pulling me closer until I was pressed firmly against his chest. I could feel his heartbeat hammering against mine.
My hands found the solid muscles of his shoulders, gripping tight as the kiss grew more urgent and desperate.
He broke away just long enough to press his forehead to mine, breathing hard. "Christ, Seraphina. I thought I’d lost you forever."
"You didn’t," I whispered back, fresh tears threatening. "You found me."
His mouth crashed against mine again, hungrier this time, more desperate. He lifted me from the tub’s edge, my legs instinctively wrapping around his waist as he carried me to the vanity counter. He set me down but remained pressed close, his hardness evident against my core.
His scent enveloped me completely – pine and something uniquely masculine that made my head spin. His hands moved to the hem of my dress, pulling it up and over my head before tossing it aside. My bra followed quickly, leaving my breasts bare and aching for his touch.
His eyes darkened with hunger as he looked at me, then he lowered his head to take one sensitive peak into his mouth. Electric pleasure shot straight through my core, drawing a moan from deep in my throat. My fingers tangled in his dark hair, urging him on as he lavished attention on first one breast, then the other.
My body came alive under his ministrations, every nerve ending singing with need. My wolf was practically howling with joy and desire. I wanted him completely, desperately.
Julian straightened and quickly shed his own clothes, revealing the magnificent body I had missed so terribly. He lifted me again and carried me into the large shower stall.
Warm water cascaded over us immediately, adding another layer of sensuality to our reunion. He pressed me against the cool tiles, his hands sliding down to cup my bottom, lifting me higher as I tightened my legs around him.
He entered me slowly, carefully, allowing my body time to adjust and welcome him home. The feeling of completeness that washed over me was almost overwhelming.
"Seraphina," he groaned against my forehead, water streaming over both our faces. "I love you so much."
"I love you too," I whispered back, my voice shaking with the intensity of everything I felt.
He began moving with slow, deliberate strokes that gradually became more urgent. We moved together in perfect synchronization, the shower echoing with our combined sounds of pleasure and the rush of water.
My climax built quickly, my body tightening around him as I dug my nails into his shoulders. I cried out his name as waves of pleasure crashed over me, my entire being convulsing with the force of my release.
He followed moments later, his own body tensing as he groaned my name, holding me tight against him as tremors shook through his powerful frame.
Later, as he settled me into bed with gentle care, I heard him murmur something that made my blood chill despite the warmth still flooding my veins.
"I won’t lose you again. And whoever took you from me will pay for what they did."
I kept my eyes closed and my breathing even, pretending sleep had already claimed me. But inside, my heart was breaking all over again. Because I knew exactly who he meant, and I had no idea how to navigate the impossible situation ahead. Dorian was still my brother, despite everything. And Julian was my mate, determined to protect me at any cost.
The war between love and loyalty was just beginning.
