Chapter 298: Sun in the Chain
Ferra laid the damaged Chains across three holding fixtures while Hajin took position at the open forge threshold.
The first siege bolt arrived before she locked the middle section, crossing the service yard after militia crews removed the bodies.
Hajin opened one Ring around his right forearm, catching the bolt against Aegis several paces outside the forge.
Its iron head flattened against the barrier, falling into the empty cable channel without reaching Ferra’s prepared bench.
"That one missed your head by an entire wall," Ferra said, tightening the first fixture, "try maintaining that impressive standard."
"Work faster," Hajin replied, spreading Aegis across the doorway, "the next wall might demand wages."
Dreth’s Zone answered through the ground, lifting broken slabs from the service yard before driving them toward the same opening.
Hajin widened his barrier until its edge covered all six furnace braces plus the three fixtures behind him.
The slabs struck together, forcing his feet backward while the single Ring accelerated around his forearm.
None crossed the threshold, but cracks spread through Aegis as another remote bolt entered behind the debris.
A second Ring formed around the first, increasing the barrier before the iron point reached the damaged section.
Hajin caught the surviving shaft with his bare left hand after Aegis stripped away its reinforcement.
He turned the weapon downward, driving its head through an abandoned floor channel instead of sending it toward distant gunners.
Behind him, her one forge-light Wing opened above the bench, suspending tongs plus gauges around the three locked Chain sections.
The furnace remained fractured from the earlier assault, leaving its damaged vent sealed beneath two floating hammers.
Ferra ignored it, since the material Hajin carried would provide more heat than the furnace could survive.
"Give me the sun first," she said, extending one hand without leaving the control bars, "then surrender Dreth’s stolen rib."
Hajin called the Divine Core of the Sun Emperor into his right palm while both Rings rotated around his forearm.
He stepped backward beneath the barrier, placing the Core directly into Ferra’s waiting hand before returning to the threshold.

The Zone Anchor Fragment entered his left hand next, carrying the isolated ash-white circulation preserved since the broken ridge.
Ferra received it from him against the middle fixture, keeping its active surface away from every intact Chain link.

Aria projected the preserved pass-anchor circulation record, separating Dreth’s command signature from its complete return circuit.
"The command portion still searches for his Zone," she said, rotating the recorded pattern, "the return path can be copied without preserving control."
"Copied once," Ferra replied, lowering the Core beneath the first fixture, "that little distinction is why his rib gets destroyed."
She closed her Wing around the bench, placing every suspended tool along a different point of the Chain’s damaged channels.
The golden Core opened beneath her palm, releasing sunlight through cold draw lines instead of the sealed furnace vent.
Ferra turned one control bar, forcing the corruption through the severed fragment’s return path before it could enter another link.
The fragment tried reconnecting toward Dreth through the floor, but Aria’s separated record kept its command branch outside the copy.
"It wants the army," Hajin said, feeling the Zone pull beneath his barrier, "can you finish before Dreth follows it here?"
"He can follow the ash," Ferra said, closing two tongs around the fragment, "the useful part is staying with me."
Another field of broken slabs rose beyond the doorway, gathering around three remote siege bolts during the same Zone pulse.
Hajin drove both Rings forward, shaping Aegis into a sloped plane before the combined strike reached the forge.
Iron points broke across its upper edge while the slabs divided around either side of the protected threshold.
One fragment slipped beneath the barrier angle, forcing Hajin to meet it with his right fist before it crossed the floor line.
Gold reinforcement entered his knuckles through the rotating Rings, breaking the slab into pieces that stopped outside Ferra’s bench.

Ferra crushed the anchor fragment between her tongs, feeding its isolated return circuit into the Chain’s center section.
Ash-white lines crossed every repaired channel once, leaving a bounded pattern beneath the existing Divine Bind structure.
The fragment broke into pale grit after the copy completed, losing the circulation preserved since its extraction from the pass.
[ Zone Anchor Fragment: consumed ]
Sunlight followed that bounded path as Ferra pressed the opened Core against the final damaged link.
Its outer crystal collapsed inward, pouring the remaining golden mana through all three fixtures at the same time.
Her Wing caught every tool shaken loose by the release, returning each gauge to its assigned channel before heat escaped.
The six forge braces bent toward the bench without breaking, containing pressure the damaged furnace never received.
Ferra pulled both control bars apart, drawing the Chain through its own links while the Core disappeared inside them.
Golden lines crossed the worn sections, closing every fracture before settling beneath the weapon’s ordinary surface.

"One structure means one structure," Aria said, fixing the limitation beside the mark, "separate soldiers or disconnected spells are invalid targets."
"Then save it for the Zone," Ferra replied, opening every fixture, "using my work on a soldier would insult both of us."
The remote fire stopped when Dreth’s debris failed to enter, though the distant crews remained somewhere beyond the terraces.
Hajin kept two Rings active until Aria confirmed every launched projectile had landed outside the protected work line.
Ferra carried the restored Chain across both forearms, crossing the few paces between her bench and the threshold.
She placed its center links into Hajin’s open right hand, releasing them only after his fingers closed around the weapon.
[ Growth Weapon custody transferred: Ferra to Hajin ]
[ Equipped: Chains of the Goddess — Legendary / 0% damaged ]
The Chain answered his mana without the drag left by Eclipse Lash, while the Solar Anchor mark remained inactive beneath his grip.
Hajin dismissed the weapon from his hand into inventory, preserving its only charge for Dreth’s coherent Zone.

Ferra closed her Wing above the emptied fixtures while Hajin turned toward Hans’s next signal beyond the service road.
