Chapter 295: Juna Finds the Eye

Juna’s white flare faded above the northern quarry while Hajin followed her scent marks away from the western toll road.

He found her beneath a collapsed stone fence with Toby and a militia escort waiting behind the nearest blue stake.

Four Flint riders moved openly across the ridge beyond them, each carrying a signal pennant above polished scout armor.

"Those are not the eye," Juna said, watching them without opening a Wing, "their trail circles the ridge and returns to the same post."

Hajin studied the visible riders, finding fresh horse sweat, road dust, plus bright mana arranged to attract distant observation.

"What are you following instead?" Hajin asked, keeping his Divine Eye closed, "show me before I start measuring their equipment."

Juna touched one claw against the stone fence, indicating a narrow draft escaping from the quarry wall below the riders.

"Relay ink, flare salt, ten bodies, and Corven’s ash," she said, turning toward the draft, "the wind brings everything except horse."

The hidden scent crossed beneath a slate shelf before climbing toward a covered observation recess inside the quarry face.

Hajin opened Divine Eye only after Juna chose the route, finding buried signal threads leading away from all four visible pennants.

They converged beneath the slate shelf, where a masked relay frame connected directly toward Corven’s white-pennant wagon farther north.

"You were right," Hajin said, closing the false rider markers, "the pennants receive nothing, while the quarry recess feeds his route."

"I did not bring you here to confirm my nose," Juna said, stepping across the fence, "I brought you because you promised to follow it."

"Then lead," Hajin said, leaving the damaged Chains stored, "Toby keeps the surrender route behind us."

Toby distributed numbered restraints while his militia escort moved along the lower drainage cut without crossing Juna’s approach.

The four riders continued their repeated circuit, presenting enough movement to hide anyone entering beneath the quarry shelf.

Juna followed their third pass before crossing open ground, using the horses’ hoofbeats to cover her descent toward the recess.

Hajin stayed several paces behind her, keeping his Rings closed while the hidden signal threads tightened under Divine Eye.

Ten scouts occupied the stone blind, with nine arranged around a relay table and one commander holding a covered warning flare.

Rolled maps rested inside open tubes beneath the table, connected by inked route strings toward Dreth’s southern standards.

The commander watched his decoy riders through narrow slots, never turning toward the draft that had betrayed his position.

Juna stopped below the recess entrance, where every scent inside reached her without revealing her body to the firing slits.

"Fourteen soldiers belong to this eye," Juna said, raising her voice toward the stone, "drop the flare and every weapon, then walk out."

Silence held for one breath before the commander tore the flare cover away and drove its striker toward the ignition plate.

All nine scouts turned their bows toward the entrance, confirming their answer before Juna’s first Wing opened.

Gold-red light unfolded across the quarry face, followed by a second Wing that filled every firing slit with solar pressure.

The third Wing opened above both, extending beyond the slate shelf while Juna lowered her claws toward the stone.

Her pressure reached the visible decoy riders first, making every horse rear without burning or striking its rider.

Inside the recess, the commander completed his downward motion while the flare climbed a finger above its cup.

Juna crossed the entrance before its first spark reached open air, covering the blind’s full length within one solar passage.

The warning flare separated from its striker, its unlit head spinning past Hajin before embedding inside the drainage bank.

A gold-red line followed Juna through the recess, cutting bows, scout armor, and the slate shelf behind every attacking position.

The commander plus nine scouts remained upright until her third Wing passed beyond the final firing slit.

Ten bodies fell together, while the severed shelf slid away from the intact relay table and crashed into the empty quarry floor.

Sunlight flooded through the opened ridge, exposing Juna between cut stone faces with all three Wings spanning the new gap.

The four decoy riders turned toward separate exits when their pennants lost every signal line at once.

Toby’s militia escort raised white surrender boards across the lower road, leaving the open ridge route unobstructed behind them.

"Your warning post is gone," Toby said, holding a restraint where they could see it, "dismount unarmed or leave before my next board changes."

Juna stepped onto the exposed shelf above them, her three Wings still burning across the ridgeline they had failed to protect.

All four riders dropped their weapons before dismounting, choosing the marked surrender lane without forcing her to descend.

Toby searched and bound them separately while militia witnesses recorded armor, pennants, plus the unit markings beneath each collar.

Hajin entered the opened recess after Juna, finding the relay table untouched between ten cut firing positions.

The maps showed Dreth’s planned observation arcs, Corven’s northern circulation route, and three decoy withdrawals converging near the southern pass.

"You cut everything around the table," Hajin said, lifting one severed bow away from the documents, "including the ridge holding it."

"Maps do not shoot back," Juna said, folding her first Wing, "I had no reason to kill them."

Her second Wing closed after Toby reported four prisoners secured, while the third remained above the broken observation shelf.

"You followed before seeing the relay," Juna said, looking toward Hajin, "that was faster than arguing with me beside a map."

"I am improving," Hajin said, handing her the unlit flare head, "at a pace that preserves your favorite complaints."

Juna accepted it with a small flash of teeth, then closed her final Wing without disturbing the preserved table.

Toby sealed each map tube under separate witness numbers before assigning two militia carriers to every side of the relay chest.

"Quarry custody yard?" Toby asked, checking the route toward the protected facility, "Lana’s procedure keeps captured equipment away from the clinic."

"Take prisoners and maps there," Hajin said, returning the warning flare to its evidence slot, "send Hans copies before Dreth changes position."

The escort moved south with four living scouts, the intact relay chest, plus fourteen unit markings fully reconciled.

[ Flint elite scout unit: 10 deceased / 4 surrendered / 0 unreconciled ]

[ Active Flint siege force: 1,057 ]

[ Sixth campaign ledger: 24 deceased / 71 serious injuries — unchanged ]

Juna pointed through the ridge section she had removed, where Dreth’s central standards were entering the broken southern pass.

Hajin followed her down from the severed eye while Corven’s white wagon remained visible beyond the northern quarry road.
