Chapter 264: Provisional
The guild clerk fixed Yenna’s sealed review beneath the survey wagon’s relay crystal, then inserted Hajin’s silver badge beside it.
Blue light moved through both items while Mila copied the witness codes into her notebook.
The relay rejected the first update when the empty-site exception reached its Gate classification field.
"It still wants a recovered core," the clerk said, turning the form toward Mila, "the comparison network will not score a clear without one."
"Remove the clear category," she replied, writing another branch code beneath the rejection, "submit verified combat output plus senior field assessment."
Orin attached his six empty survey readings, while Mara added the evacuation limits plus assignment restrictions from the road review.
Yenna pressed her seal against the final combat field, confirming Hajin’s peak exceeded her own direct output.
The relay accepted that version, sending one blue line into the badge before its old number disappeared.

The junior clerk read the new number twice, then checked the relay in case another rejection remained hidden.
"Ninety-six," Yenna said, looking from the badge toward Hajin, "the branch still thinks it is being cautious."
"It saw one strike plus four witnesses," Hajin replied, removing the badge from the relay, "caution is better than pretending I can repeat it every minute."
Mila recorded the answer beside the pending field, keeping the mountain strike separate from sustained three-Ring output.
"Provisional top one hundred changes your call priority," she said, closing the comparison ledger, "the guild can request you for wider emergencies while this review remains open."
"They could already request me through the Crown," he replied, fastening the badge beneath his coat, "now the message arrives with a smaller number."
Yenna looked ready to argue with the wording before Mara placed the damaged road order between them.
The irrigation crew had reached the failing ditch brace, giving Hajin a more immediate problem than another guild obligation.
"Your number can wait until the road holds," Mara said, marking the repair receipt, "the next clinic wagon will not."
Hajin sent the receipt toward Marrick with one of the returning militia runners, then opened his system status beside the wagon.
Aria had held every reward separately until the Gate’s linked circuit, summon participation, and contract attribution finished reconciling.
[ Post-Gate Status Reconciliation Complete ]
[ Hajin ]
[ Rings Manifested: 3 ]
[ Ring IV Progress: 19,420,000 / 25,000,000 EXP ]
[ Juna — Solar Vanguard ]
[ Wings: 3 ]
[ Wing Progress: 3,180,000 / 7,500,000 EXP ]
[ Loccy ]
[ Wings: 3 ]
[ Wing Progress: 4,620,000 / 7,500,000 EXP ]
[ Unique Skill: Burdenfall ]
The totals matched every visible kill from the breach, including Vella’s narrow host attribution plus Loccy’s apex participation.
No fourth Ring appeared beneath Hajin’s progress, leaving another 5,580,000 EXP before the next threshold.

Loccy remained below her own fourth-Wing requirement, despite the apex reward carrying her beyond four million.
"Open the weapon audit," Hajin said, remembering the links that pulled out of alignment during Eclipse Lash.
Aria separated the Chain’s absorbed corruption from the fractures created by the mountain release.
[ Equipment Integrity Audit ]
[ Chains of the Goddess ]
[ Type: Growth Weapon ]
[ Rank: Rare ]
[ Condition: Active — 58% Damaged ]
[ Evolution Requirements: Not Met ]
The recent corruption had repaired several internal channels, but the ten-Shard contact damaged more links than it restored.
Its final damage reading settled thirteen points above the last complete audit, leaving the weapon usable without hiding the loss.
Hajin copied the reading onto Mara’s equipment page, then handed it to the same runner carrying the road receipt.
"Ferra gets that after Marrick logs it," he said, keeping the damaged Chain inside inventory, "tell her I need a repair plan, not another test swing."
The runner took both pages toward town while Yenna watched the empty hand where the weapon had disappeared.
"You broke a mountain with something that is more than half damaged," she said, returning her attention to the audit, "what happens after it is repaired?"
"I find out after someone repairs it," Hajin replied, closing the status panel, "guessing will not help Ferra’s forge."
A warning bell interrupted Yenna before she found another question, sending two strikes from the southern road post.
Hans raised his spear near the covered bodies while the militia line turned toward an approaching white flag.
One vanguard rider entered the visible boundary alone, carrying a sealed board instead of a drawn weapon.
Juna followed his scent from the ravine without opening a Wing, keeping the guild wagon between him plus the wounded road.
"Commander Dreth sends revised field notice," the rider said, stopping beyond Hans’s spear range, "he expects the regional seal before sunset."
Hans took the board after checking both of the rider’s empty hands, then carried it toward Hajin without offering conversation.
Dreth’s mark sat beneath a short military order written after the southern observers returned.
{Your Gate display ends the observation period, the vanguard begins its territorial advance in three days. Clear the salt road plus eastern posts before dawn, or every armed defender remaining there enters the war roll.}
Mila checked the fresh ink against the time on the observers’ field statement, confirming the notice came after their report.

"He saw the Gate vanish and moved his schedule forward," she said, returning the board, "the mountain account may not have reached him yet."
"The observers saw five people ejected from a Gate that stopped existing," Orin replied, studying the southern road, "that result was enough."
The rider waited beyond the boundary while Hajin read the order a second time.
Dreth had watched the region divide its defenders across a Gate break, bridge occupation, and clinic retreat without losing the town.
The public proof had not frightened him away, though it had ended whatever patience remained in his observation plan.
"He wants the eastern posts empty," Hans said, touching the three-day line with his spearhead, "those roads give his vanguard room to deploy."
"Then they stay occupied," Hajin replied, taking Marrick’s blank receipt page from the witness packet, "he can put my refusal beside the observer report."
He wrote the answer without adding threats, sealing it beneath the regional mark before returning the board.
{The salt road and eastern posts remain under Sixth authority, your advance will be treated as armed invasion.}
The rider accepted the sealed refusal, then turned south while Hans sent three militia runners toward the threatened posts.
Yenna watched them leave before tapping the provisional #96 badge beneath Hajin’s coat.
"Your senior review is not finished," she said, looking toward Dreth’s road, "I want Orin at those posts before the three days expire."
