Chapter 193: System Update
Cassie scrambled backward on the grass, her eyes wide as she pointed a trembling finger at Hajin’s shoulder. Jonas stepped in front of her, his hands gripping his axe while he glared at the glowing blue projection.
"Get back, Cassie!" He yelled, "it might be some kind of curse left behind by that spider!"
Hajin reached up and poked the tiny girl’s cheek, finding the translucent skin surprisingly solid under his finger.
"It is not a ghost," he said, flicking one of her tiny blue legs to get her to stop swinging them, "it is just the system."
Loccy tilted her head, her ears twitching as she stared at the blue projection, "oh, is it like that glowing light thing?" she asked, clapping her hands together as she recalled the incident in the capital, "the writing one that showed up when you went crazy?"
"So that is what Juna described," Vella murmured, her eyes narrowing as she inspected the tiny girl floating near them, "the strange magic that warned them when you lost control."
Cassie stared at them in utter bewilderment, her mouth opening and closing as she looked between the three of them.
"A system?" She asked, her voice cracking, "What the hell is a system? And why is it sitting on your shoulder like a pet?"
"She is a mascot," Aria corrected, her flat, robotic voice rising from Hajin’s collarbone, "and my designation is Aria."
The scout lowered his stick, scratching his head while he tried to follow the conversation. "I’ve never heard of a magic item like that," he muttered, "is it some kind of high-grade artifact from the royal capital?"
"Something like that," Hajin said, turning away to pick up his short sword from the grass.
Cassie marched up to him, her hands on her hips as she ignored Jonas’s warning looks. "Don’t give me that vague bullshit," she snapped, pointing at Aria, "that thing just manifested out of raw mana, and you’re telling me it’s normal?"
"It is normal for me," he muttered, storing the sword back into his inventory with a brief flicker of light.
Vella crossed her arms, her hair catching the light as she looked down at Cassie. "It manages his summons and records his stats," she explained, "so it is merely a tool to organize his strength."
"Yeah, it’s like a really smart booklet!" Loccy added, hopping on one foot, "but it floats and sometimes gives us coins!"
Cassie rubbed her temples, looking like she wanted to scream as she stared at the smiling beast-girl. "A booklet that gives coins," she whispered, "are you people completely insane, or am I just having a stroke?"
"A stroke is highly unlikely," Aria chimed in, her fingers tapping against Hajin’s collarbone, "though your stress levels are elevated."
Cassie scowled, reaching out to poke the tiny girl’s forehead only for her finger to pass straight through. The blue lines rippled like water under the contact, leaving the little mascot looking completely unaffected by the attempt.
"What the..." she muttered, waving her hand through Aria’s shimmering form a second time.
Hajin reached up and pushed Aria’s head down, his finger meeting the solid texture of her soft hair as he did so.
"Stop that, host Hajin," she murmured, brushing his hand away with her tiny but surprisingly solid fingers.
Cassie stared at his hand in disbelief, her eyebrows knitting together as she pointed at his shoulder.
"Why can you touch her when my hand went right through?" she demanded, pointing a finger at his shoulder while she glared at him.
"Because she is my partner," he said, walking past Cassie toward the narrow exit of the clearing, "and we have a bigger problem than my shoulder mascot."
Jonas and the scout quickly fell in behind him, eager to leave the clearing before any other trouble started. Cassie stood still for a second, then jogged to catch up with his long strides.
"What problem?" she asked, keeping her eyes fixed on Aria as she swung her legs.
"We cleared the gate, but the boss core is gone," he explained, walking away from the checkpoint toward the main forest road.
"What do you mean gone?" She frowned, "Did it dissolve when the gate collapsed?"
"I crushed it," he said, not bothering to explain the mechanics of his Collector’s Grasp to her.
Vella and Loccy walked on either side of him, leaving the nervous guards behind as they headed down the road. Cassie’s jaw dropped again, her pace slowing as she tried to process his blunt words.
"You crushed a ten-shard core?" she yelled, drawing a sharp sideways glance from Aria on his shoulder, "Do you have any idea how much that was worth?"
"I had to do it to survive," he muttered, ’though the system got plenty of energy out of it.’
They continued down the road, leaving the checkpoint behind as the forest began to thin. Cassie kept grumbling about the lost reward, her head shaking in disbelief while Jonas and the scout walked in quiet agreement.
Hajin ignored the complaints, turning his head to look at Aria, "hey, show me the system update."
Aria nodded blankly, her hand waving in front of his face as a large, bright golden interface flickered into existence.
He stared at the screen, his mind instantly overwhelmed by the sheer volume of new data spreading across his vision. The interface was completely restructured, replacing the simple panels from before with a dense, detailed layout he did not understand.

He scrolled through the updated screen, his eyes scanning the detailed information while the panel moved with his steps.
He stared at the ring progress line, realizing the nine million experience points from the gate clear had already carried over to his next ring.
His eyes drifted down to the weapon slot, finding the chains were now forty-five percent repaired after devouring the demonic energy. A new skill called Eclipse Lash sat listed below them, pulsing with the hybrid gold-purple light he had felt during the reconstruction.
The glove on his left hand also showed a change, the seal slipping to ninety-five percent after crushing the boss core.
"Why did the interface change so much?" He muttered, looking at Aria hovering near his shoulder, her eyes remaining blank as she processed his question.
"This is the optimized parameters layout," she explained, her voice ringing inside his head, "designed to display your combat efficiency more accurately." She pointed her finger at the estimated power tier, causing the line to highlight in gold.
"Based on your physical statistics and core multiplier, your power now sits near the ninth shard," she added.
"Ninth shard," he muttered, realizing he could functionally crack a mountain with his bare hands.
He closed the interface with a quick swipe of his hand, trying to settle his confusion as they continued down the road.
