Chapter 135: Chapter 97: A Battle Without Suspense
The Werewolf that Meng Wei had become seemed to possess some kind of chilling power.
As he lunged, a frigid wind immediately swept through the wide corridor.
And wherever Meng Wei passed, a thin layer of frost rapidly formed on the ground and walls.
’So it’s bloodline power.’
Pei Ze’s eyes narrowed slightly.
’To awaken a portion of his bloodline power while still a Wizard Apprentice... his talent is leagues beyond Pei Shaoqi’s.’
That said, Pei Ze felt not an ounce of fear. He calmly released the Fireball Technique he had prepared.
The blazing Fireball barreled forward, carrying an aura of unmatched ferocity.
A flicker of contempt crossed Meng Wei’s eyes. He nimbly leaped onto the right-hand wall, intending to bypass the Fireball and charge at Pei Ze. But to his surprise, the Fireball suddenly detonated while still several meters away.
Scorching flames and a powerful shockwave instantly engulfed him.
BOOM!
Meng Wei fell back to the ground, looking a little worse for wear. Before he could even regain his footing, another hazy gray ray of light shot out and struck his body.
Meng Wei instantly felt his body grow heavy, as if his limbs had been shackled, weighing him down out of nowhere.
Having fallen for Pei Ze’s ploys twice in a row, Meng Wei was utterly infuriated. His face grim, he charged forward once more.
’This guy’s Magic resistance in his Werewolf form seems really high.’
Pei Ze’s brow furrowed slightly.
’He took an enhanced Fireball Technique almost head-on and only got a few burns. That Magic resistance is even better than my Magic Heavy Armor.’
Realizing this, Pei Ze gave up on Magic altogether and charged at Meng Wei with his sword.
’The Werewolf Meng Wei has become seems to excel at close-quarters combat, but in that regard, I’ve never feared any Wizard Apprentice at my level.’
’Even against a powerful Werewolf, I’m confident I can take him down!’
...
ROAR!
Seeing Pei Ze actually take the initiative to charge Meng Wei on the screen, the spectating crowd instantly erupted.
Meng Kai, who had been worried after Meng Wei suffered a minor setback, was now ecstatic. He could barely stop himself from laughing out loud.
Besides its ability to control ice elements and command wolf packs, the Frost Disaster Silver Wolf was most feared for its powerful close-combat prowess.
Although Meng Wei had only awakened a portion of his bloodline power, failing to fully inherit control over ice elements, his close-combat abilities were almost completely awakened.
In his Werewolf form, Meng Wei’s constitution was already on par with a Tier One Legendary Knight and approaching that of a Tier Two. His body was wreathed in a passive chilling aura, inflicting continuous frost erosion on anyone who got close. His claws were likewise imbued with ice-elemental damage.
In close-quarters combat, one could say the Werewolf Meng Wei could even fight a Tier Two Legendary Knight to a standstill.
For Pei Ze to choose close-quarters combat with Meng Wei was, without a doubt, an incredibly foolish move.
Gu Lin’s brows knitted together.
She didn’t know much about Meng Wei’s Werewolf form, but seeing his current state and Meng Kai’s ecstatic expression, she knew Pei Ze’s decision to engage in close combat was unwise. A knot of anxiety tightened in her heart for him.
The rest of the spectators shared similar thoughts.
"Meng Wei’s combat ability in his Werewolf form must be immense. Why on earth would Pei Ze decide to fight him up close?"
"Exactly. He should be trying to create distance and use Magic."
"Don’t be an armchair general. Didn’t you see that Fireball Technique was almost useless against him? His fur clearly has significant Magic resistance."
"Even so, he didn’t have to charge in for close combat."
"Enough arguing. Just watch and we’ll find out."
The arguing quickly died down.
All eyes were glued to the screen, everyone afraid of missing a single moment.
Barring any surprises, this was shaping up to be the most intense battle of the trial.
...
CLANG!
The ear-piercing clang of metal on metal echoed endlessly through the corridor.
Pei Ze and Meng Wei met strength with strength, force with force. The ferocious clash was like two wild beasts locked in a brutal struggle. Violent shockwaves radiated outward from their position.
The section of the corridor at the center of their battle quickly became a ruin, the ground and walls instantly covered in a dense web of cracks.
In terms of pure physical constitution, Pei Ze was far inferior to Meng Wei.
But he was bolstered by Elemental Runes and protected by multiple layers of Mage Armor, making him completely unafraid of the chilling erosion radiating from Meng Wei’s body.
He didn’t even bother to defend against Meng Wei’s claws, focusing solely on attacking in a clear display of trading blow for blow.
Meng Wei had initially sneered at Pei Ze for daring to face him in close combat, but as the fight wore on, he was shocked to find he couldn’t gain the upper hand.
After a furious exchange, Pei Ze was completely unscathed. Meng Wei, on the other hand, now bore several fresh, charred wounds left by arcs of electricity.
’This guy!’
A chill ran through Meng Wei’s heart. He finally cast aside the last shred of his condescension. Dodging a sword strike crackling with lightning, he nimbly leaped back more than twenty meters, then threw his head back and let out a long howl.
A high, piercing wolf howl instantly echoed through the entire corridor.
The moment the howl sounded, hundreds of small Arrays abruptly materialized around Meng Wei. As they flared with light, massive, powerfully built, snow-white wolves with razor-sharp fangs emerged one after another, growling as they lunged toward Pei Ze.
’So we’re competing with summoned creatures now, are we?’
Pei Ze gave a low chuckle as black energy billowed from his wrist. With a great rustle of flapping wings, innumerable Fog Crows flew out from the smoke, sweeping toward the wolf pack like a tidal wave.
The flock of crows and the pack of wolves, two torrents of black and white, crashed violently into each other in the middle of the corridor!
Instantly, with a thunderous BOOM, flesh and blood flew everywhere as black mist filled the air.
