Chapter 2062: Teams to Metteo Town
The best case scenario for Metteo was for the Lord to lose the Token to their faction.
It was just that...how long has it been since Metteo had been to a war? A Town so close to the desert, especially when deserts were expanding, was generally not attractive enough to risk going to war with.
Erol was actually tempted to ask Alterra to attack Metteo but that was too much of a favor. If he dared ask, he might as well ask them to throw him out the walls.
Alterra, after their investigation, was apparently famous for avoiding wars despite their satellites ironically going through it every two weeks. Alterra itself would not go to war unless they were attacked, and that was a principle he respected.
The group rested there for a while, gathered themselves, gathered their strength, pooled their resources, gave intel, gathered intel, and so on.
They were tempted to send letters to their families left in Metteo to warn them, but they couldn’t risk it. Besides, they already taught their families what to do in the event of their ’deaths’.
Many of them should’ve left for the village by now, while the rest were in hiding, living low-key as possible.
For now, Erol and the others could only trust that their families would be able to handle themselves well on their own. Hopefully, when they returned, their loved ones were alive and well.
Ansel, Mathilda, Loki, and the others considered various options, deciding to just send spies to Metteo first. They couldn’t listen to just one side of the story, could they?
Though they were inclined to believe Erol’s side, they had to be aware of some subtleties, nuances, and so on. It would also determine how hard they could go.
Do not underestimate the little things that locals might take for granted. It could be key to ending wars.
Other than the spies, they ought to send their first batch of trainers to start the grinding sessions.
They could also take this chance to create a decent supply point in that region. That way, people didn’t have to be too stingy with their consumables.
They reckoned that some goods would be available for exchange with undead cores (or the new metal) in the future, much like how Josef exchanged cores for his abundant Igneus plants.
In the end, a number of level 20s were to be sent there, including some stuck at level 19. The experience gained from killing the Undead was the same according to level, but they did not have the beasts’ superior physique.
The reason beasts were so troublesome was because of their superior physiques, making it difficult to battle a monster of the same level alone.
But the undead was different. Their physiques were closer to humans and did not have the excessive hardiness of beasts.
They were just easier to kill, especially when one found their weaknesses. How could they miss such a grinding spot?
Anyway, they all survived zombies, how could they be afraid of these creatures who were similar but not quite?
Not to mention, they were far stronger than they were back in Terran! They were no longer unadjusted cowards at level 1 or 2!
They could carry their old selves with a hand, okay?
As such, another internal mission began. For safety, except for the assigned spies, the others would treat Dune Town as the base of operations in that region. Dune Town was a day’s travel from Metteo, and about two days away from the wall.
There were many people joining this mission, at least a hundred. Ansel wanted to join too but they didn’t want another minister outside so he could only delay his trip.
Anyway, many fighters in the level 19-25 range joined this time.
The route most decided to take was south than west.
Interestingly, these hundred people were members of different teams, so they naturally would take different missions to the location area. This was fine, they were not in a rush.
Only Erol and his cronies, along with the items, were antsy and couldn’t afford too many detours.
Their main challenge and limitation was that the mercenary hall arrays could only carry their bodies.
Even their backpacks wouldn’t be taken, so they could only bring resources that were in space. That was definitely not enough to bring resources for a potential rebellion.
They had to commission beast carts to bring enough, and they could only buy so many carriages with the money they had.
...
There were a few mercenary groups involved here, and also a few teams.
First among the official teams had Gwen, who insisted on coming, along with Ryan who served as the leader for the entire base. There were about three dozen people in their combined team, so their missions were also specific to those that’d need their numbers.
Their end point was the Undead area, but they were also expected to grow well as they took missions.
Another team had Luke, Leon, along with several others like Crow, Dog, and Sunny. They were among Alterra’s first residents and had grown much faster than their peers in turn.
Because the leveling had slowed down over the past couple of months, however, some of them felt like others were catching up, so naturally the sense of urgency was there.
The last team was a greater mix of aborigines including Mauru, one of the first aborigine villager refugees.
They were starkly aware that the Terrains leveled up and grew stronger faster and many had already caught up to them.
At their rate, they would take a week or two to jump, complete missions, and reach Metteo town, and then they ought to be making a name for themselves in that region for the following month.
Since they were already there, they might as well expand their market, right? Alterra would create supply points in that region, and they had to make sure they could sell all the stocks for a high price. For that, reputation was key.
As for how the battle between Metteo’s factions would turn out, they’d have to wait and see.
