Chapter 8 - 8 A Desperate Leap Up
Chapter 8: A Desperate Leap for Life
Mengyu suddenly felt that she had been too calm in front of the human trafficker, which was not at all how a sixteen or seventeen-year-old girl should react after being captured!
She quickly pretended to be scared, "My name is Jiang Mengyu. I, I have never climbed mountains before. I am just scared, afraid that my hands won't be able to hold on, and if I fall, I will surely die."
Seeing Mengyu acting this way, the tall human trafficker was relieved: He must have been mistaken earlier. What could a fifteen or sixteen-year-old girl possibly do?
Among the three girls, Mengyu kept her head down, Jiang Haiyan was crying over a future she couldn't see but desperately wished for, while Pi Yuhua had a look of utter despair.
Mengyu noticed that on Pi Yuhua, there was the black aura of death that only those about to die possessed.
Death aura, she could actually see the aura of death, and knew it was the aura of death! Was this an instinct of someone who had died once before?
Also, if Pi Yuhua carried the aura of death, it meant she was resigned to dying, and that had invited the death aura!
Perhaps the fall down the mountain in her past life that left her dead or unconscious was no accident, but intentional?
But could she save her?
Mengyu's thoughts whirred, and she feigned fear again, reaching out to pull on Pi Yuhua's arm, "Sister, I'm scared."
Pi Yuhua didn't expect Mengyu to talk to her; after all, no one had spoken during the whole journey, including in the car.
She patted Mengyu's hand, "Don't be afraid. If we do fall off the mountain, then we'll just die."
"But I don't want to die. I'm not even sixteen yet; there are still so many good days ahead. It would be so ugly if I really die from the fall. Besides, my sister always steals my things. If I die, she is definitely going to take all my stuff. Only if I'm alive can I hope to get my things back."
Pi Yuhua was stunned by her words, a glimmer of light appeared in her eyes. Yes, only by staying alive was there hope.
She looked up at the human trafficker, "Untie our hands. Otherwise, we won't move."
Jiang Mengyu let out a sigh of relief, as long as their hands were untied, Pi Yuhua wouldn't fall to her death like in her past life. A person's survival instincts would make her grab onto something to lessen the likelihood of falling.
Moreover, only if their hands were untied, would she have a chance of survival when jumping off the cliff.
The human trafficker Lao Liu glanced at Mengyu, thought for a moment, and said, "Fine, loosen their bindings."
"Lao Liu, is this really okay?" asked the one with the stomachache, worried, "There are only two of you—"
"Are you saying we two grown men can't keep an eye on three young girls? Besides, this journey up the mountain will take two or three hours. With their hands bound, if we meet anyone on the way..."
Indeed, it would have been fine if they hadn't encountered anyone, but what if they had? Anyone seeing people with their hands bound would suspect something, wouldn't they?
The path may be empty, but what about the mountain itself?
Who can guarantee that there are no people up there?
Lao Liu then turned to the three girls, "Listen up, we're untying you for your own safety. If you try to run away halfway, I won't care about your life or death."
Jiang Mengyu quickly nodded earnestly, "This is my first time in the mountains, and I don't know the way."
The human traffickers looked at each other, nodded, and proceeded to untie the three girls. Then they hurried the trio up the mountain.
As they neared the place where she had jumped off the cliff in her past life, Mengyu's nervousness increased.
Should she jump? If she didn't, it would be very difficult to escape from the clutches of the human traffickers.
What Lao Liu said was true, the two grown men could easily handle the three young girls. The chances of escape were almost nonexistent.
But if she jumped, it was a gamble with her life.
