Chapter 69: Chapter 69: Attack

As they spoke, they arrived back where they had parked.

Lang Qiu saw them return and asked, "How did it go? Was she the one who had Bai Zhi kidnapped? Did you see her? What’s the situation now?"

Hu Yan omitted the details, summarizing briefly, "She was the one who had her taken. We also got evidence that she conspired with others to kidnap Bai Zhi. She won’t dare to make any rash moves for now, so Bai Zhi is safe at the moment."

He paused for a moment before continuing, "The only issue is that Bai Zhi might get hungry if this drags on. Let’s check with the Female Alliance on their progress and see if they can intercept them."

Although the trip had been a bust in one sense, it wasn’t a complete waste. At least they knew Bai Zhi was still alive and well, and capable of protecting herself.

When Yue Junxiao heard Hu Yan summarize everything in just a few sentences, he recalled the intricate plan Hu Yan had laid out beforehand and exclaimed, "It wasn’t nearly that simple! You should have seen it! Hu Yan had that evil female completely stunned. Without him, forget getting evidence or making that Yun Xi obediently video call the kidnappers—we probably would’ve had a hard time even getting in to see her!"

Yan Yichen shivered. "When I saw Hu Yan smile just now, it made my hair stand on end. He really is a fox! He has so many tricks up his sleeve when it comes to scheming."

Then, Yan Yichen and Yue Junxiao began to animatedly recount what had just happened.

Hu Yan sighed. "You’re exaggerating."

Yue Junxiao recalled Yun Xi’s reaction and couldn’t help but laugh. "No way! It’s not an exaggeration at all! That evil female’s face was totally pale by the end!"

Yan Yichen asked, confused, "But I don’t quite get it. Why not just make them bring the Starship straight back?"

After listening to their account, Lang Qiu analyzed the situation. "The people who do this sort of thing are usually either interstellar pirates, interstellar mercenaries, or wanted criminals. These types have a lot of blood on their hands. After losing their leverage, why would they obediently turn back and walk right into a trap? If you kidnapped someone and were told to return, would you? Besides, telling them to come back directly would arouse suspicion and put Bai Zhi in danger. Using the Female Alliance to intercept them is a much more natural and fitting course of action."

Hu Yan nodded. "Exactly."

They then contacted the Female Alliance and received an update: the Alliance had already gotten in touch with the neighboring star system and would ensure the Starship was intercepted within their territory. They also invited the husbands to join them on their Starship to bring Bai Zhi home.

Yue Junxiao and Yan Yichen, sitting in the back, let out a sigh of relief. "Finally, some good news."

As they were heading to board the Starship, Yu Jia also received news of Wu Jiang’s failure.

Yu Jia roared, her anger uncontrollable, "What did you say? You failed?! Didn’t I tell you to bring more men? Bai Zhi is a single female, and you couldn’t even handle her! Don’t you need money? She has so much of it, and you just let her get away? Don’t you want it anymore?"

Wu Jiang shot back angrily, "Why didn’t you tell us she was friends with Miss Grey? How were we supposed to make a move with Miss Grey there? Besides, another group was also watching Bai Zhi. They’re the ones who kidnapped her."

Hearing this, Yu Jia froze. "What did you say? Another group was after Bai Zhi, too?"

"Yeah."

Yu Jia thought for a moment. "Do you know who they were?"

Wu Jiang said, "I don’t know. But they had a vicious look in their eyes. They’ve definitely killed before."

At this, Yu Jia actually chuckled. "Well, well. Bai Zhi has certainly made a lot of enemies! It looks like someone is dead set on killing her. If that’s the case, it makes sense you failed. After all, you amateurs can’t compete with professionals."

Wu Jiang’s face fell at her words.

’They had planned on bleeding Bai Zhi dry, but in the end, they came away with nothing. A completely wasted trip! And they were almost mistaken for accomplices!’

"If you’d told us earlier that she was friends with Miss Grey..." Wu Jiang began, but Yu Jia cut him off. "What? You think if I’d told you she knew Miss Grey, you would’ve been able to resist? Those two buildings are worth tens of millions! Bai Zhi bought them just like that. She definitely has way more Star Coins on hand. Could you really have stopped yourself from wanting a piece of that pie?"

Yu Jia sneered. "Wu Jiang, you can put on an act for other people, but why bother pretending with me? You think I don’t know you? You’re only fooling yourself if you say you weren’t tempted! Have you forgotten how you got kicked out in the first place?"

Wu Jiang’s face was grim. "I’ll keep watching her. And you’d better not bring up the past. You don’t want your Beast Husband finding out what you’ve been doing, do you?"

At that, Yu Jia’s eyes narrowed. "Are you threatening me?"

Wu Jiang replied, "I’m just reminding you not to push your luck."

With that, he ended the call.

Seeing that he had hung up on her, Yu Jia’s face turned livid. She snatched the nearest object to throw it, but when she realized it was one of her Beast Husband’s favorite ornaments, she silently set it back down.

Meanwhile, Bai Zhi was huddled in a corner. After counting all the strands that made up the rope, she started counting other things, over and over again. Eventually, she got so bored she started chatting with her System to pass the time.

Then, she felt the Starship give a violent shudder.

The Starship began to swerve left and right, lurching up and down. Bai Zhi was thrown about, the instability nearly making her vomit.

Bai Zhi asked her System, "Do you know what’s happening outside?"

System: "Someone is attacking this Starship."

Bai Zhi nearly leaped to her feet. If she hadn’t been tied up, she would have.

’Someone is attacking the Starship I’m on! That means if this ship takes a direct hit, my life is over!’

’Who the hell is it?!’

’So inconsiderate!’

’Couldn’t they wait until I’m off the Starship before they start shooting at it?!’

’I went through all that trouble to get a message to Hu Yan and the others, and I was just waiting for them to rescue me! And now you’re telling me someone’s attacking the Starship?!’

The next second, the Starship took a sharp, high-speed turn, slamming Bai Zhi’s head directly into the wall.

BANG—

Bai Zhi had barely recovered from hitting her head when she was thrown across the room, slamming into the door.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

The few objects in the room were sent flying as the ship continued to jolt and spin, their positions changing completely.

Her head swimming from the impact, Bai Zhi felt the world spin as waves of nausea churned in her stomach, making her feel awful.

The next moment, the Starship felt as if it had been hit. The hull shuddered violently, and the ship was sent hurtling forward.

Inertia threw Bai Zhi backward. Luckily, she was already against the door and managed to grab the handle, which kept her from being flung across the room again.

Bai Zhi screamed internally, ’System! If you don’t save me now, I’m going to croak! You’ll have to find a new host!’
