Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Unimportant People

The guards at the entrance heard this and gave Bai Zhi a more scrutinizing look.

They recognized Xing Fan, who was a frequent visitor and an acquaintance of their young miss. Therefore, the two females must have been talking about the other one.

But since she was with Miss Xing Fan, they assumed she was also an acquaintance and didn’t take any action.

Bai Zhi heard the voice and turned to see Yang Shanshan approaching them, arm in arm with Yun Xi.

Yun Xi was on Xing Lang’s invitation list thanks to her Beast Husband, but Yang Shanshan didn’t have an invitation. So, she had begged Yun Xi to bring her along to see the legendary Crystal Stones that were warm in winter and cool in summer.

Yun Xi hadn’t expected to see Bai Zhi here. The thought of the Energy Stone Bai Zhi had taken from her made her clench her fists, and the look she gave Bai Zhi was no longer as composed as it used to be.

Yun Xi maintained her elegant facade, but her tone was laced with suspicion. "Cousin, what are you doing here?"

Bai Zhi nonchalantly lifted her gaze. "What? Are you the only ones allowed here? Am I not?"

Yang Shanshan raised an eyebrow. "Bai Zhi, did you even bother to find out what this place is before you dared to show up? Someone like you, who has nothing, can’t get in without an invitation."

Although Yun Xi said nothing, she clearly agreed with Yang Shanshan.

Hu Yan knew how formidable Bai Zhi could be in a fight, so he said nothing, standing quietly to the side and not getting involved in the females’ war of words.

Xing Fan, on the other hand, frowned repeatedly as she listened to the two females’ barrage of questions and insults like "someone like you." She asked, "And who are these two?"

Bai Zhi gave them a cool glance and said, "No one important."

Hearing this, Yang Shanshan sneered. "Bai Zhi, you have such a terrible memory. Have you forgotten how you used to shamelessly beg us to hang out with you? It hasn’t even been that long, and now you’re pretending you don’t know us."

After she spoke, she shot a look at Xing Fan, sizing her up before saying, "Someone like her could never get an invitation, so you must be the one taking her in. Do you even know what kind of person she is, daring to associate with her? If she can pretend not to know us today, she can pretend not to know you tomorrow."

Xing Fan wasn’t swayed by this attempt to drive a wedge between them. Instead, she chuckled. "I may not know what kind of person she is, but from just these few words of yours, I can tell your character certainly isn’t anything to brag about."

Hearing her character being attacked, Yang Shanshan’s expression changed instantly. She snapped, "You! Do I even know you? How dare you say I have bad character!"

Seeing Yang Shanshan being bullied, Yun Xi frowned. "Cousin, Shanshan is just blunt. Don’t you know what kind of person she is? We’re family, after all. If you wanted to get in, you could have just told me. I could have found someone to take you. But how could you let some unsavory character talk to her like that?"

Bai Zhi gave her a lukewarm look. "Have you sorted out the mess from your birthday party? You already have the leisure to attend an auction?"

Yun Xi was left speechless. "You!"

The incident at the birthday party was complicated. Han Yu hadn’t told her much, only that it involved not just personal grudges but also possible treason.

She never imagined that just by hosting a birthday party, something like this would happen, and her Energy Stone would be taken.

Just as she was about to retaliate, an angry female voice cut in. "Who are you calling an unsavory character?"

Yun Xi turned her head slightly and saw an irate Xiao Yu approaching. She froze for a second before calling out, "Miss Grey."

Xiao Yu frowned at her. "You know me?"

Yun Xi offered a gentle smile. "I had the honor of seeing you once with my Beast Husband."

"Oh," Xiao Yu said, sounding completely uninterested. "I don’t know you."

Her words made Yun Xi’s smile freeze. Her fingers tightened into fists, but she had to pretend she didn’t care. "There were a lot of people around at the time. You were with your uncle, so it’s only normal that you don’t recognize me."

Xiao Yu paid her no mind and shot back, "Did you just call my friend an unsavory character?"

Yun Xi’s nails dug into her palms. "I didn’t know she was your friend... I thought..."

Xiao Yu frowned at them, displeased. "So if she wasn’t my friend, you could just say whatever you want? And you were bullying Bai Zhi! She’s my friend too, so if you bully her again, you’re bullying me! Also! I’m the one who had my uncle send the invitation. You got a problem with that? If you do, you can keep it to yourself!"

When Yun Xi heard Xiao Yu say Bai Zhi was her friend, her expression twisted for a moment. ’When did Bai Zhi get to know Miss Grey?!’

Though a thousand questions swirled in her mind, she quickly composed herself, aware that many people were watching.

Just then, Xing Fan called out, "Alright, Xiao Yu, let’s go inside. Don’t waste any more time on them."

"Coming!" Xiao Yu scampered over to Bai Zhi and Xing Fan, turning to make a face at Yun Xi and her companion.

Bai Zhi said to Xing Fan, "Sorry, I dragged you into this."

Before Xing Fan could reply, Xiao Yu cut in, "They’re the ones with bad character. What are you apologizing for?"

The two Beastmen at the entrance called out, "Miss Xiao Yu, Miss Xing Fan."

Xiao Yu tilted her head toward the guards and said, "Give those two females behind us a thorough check. I suspect their invitations are fake."

"Yes, miss."

They entered the auction house.

The auction was completely different from what she had seen on TV. The venue was huge—truly massive—with three floors designated according to social status.

The higher the floor, the higher one’s status.

The entire auction house had a high-tech feel. Each guest had their own private room.

But while the rooms were private, you could actually see into the other rooms from your own. Each room had a large projection screen facing the auction stage.

If you wanted to bid on an item, you simply had to press a button on the screen. Your bid would be projected into the center of the main hall, and not just the auctioneer, but the entire audience could see which room was bidding.

Furthermore, as the auctioneer introduced each item, it was projected onto the screen in high definition—clearer even than holding it in your own hands. Any tiny flaw would be magnified several times over, which was why all of their auction items received unanimously positive reviews.

What you see is what you get.

And to prevent any mishaps with the items, they would dispatch SS-level personnel to deliver the winnings to the buyer’s home, which marked the completion of the entire auction process.

This rule was supposedly established after an incident where someone coveted an item but lacked the Star Coins to win it. After the winner paid and left the auction house with the item, the losing bidder not only robbed them but also injured them.

There were very few SS-level spiritual power superpower users on all of Blue Star, so in all these years, another robbery of a winning bid had never occurred.

While Bai Zhi was inside getting a detailed tour from Xiao Yu and Xing Fan, Yun Xi and her companion were stopped at the door, required to have their invitations verified.

Yang Shanshan immediately started arguing indignantly with the guard. "Our invitations are real! Why do they get to go straight in while we get stopped for an inspection?"

The argument drew the attention of passersby, who couldn’t help but glance in their direction.

Their strange looks made Yun Xi blush with shame, and she secretly gritted her teeth so hard they could have shattered.
