Chapter 35: Chapter 35: It Poked Her Kink
Yan Yichen got in to drive. After getting into the car, Lang Qiu reverted to his human form. However, because his spiritual power was unstable, he retained some of his beastly features. A pair of silver-gray ears perched atop his head, and he leaned weakly against the seat.
The only reason he was in slightly better shape than Yue Junxiao was his higher spiritual power. But in truth, it wasn’t by much. His face was pale, and his eyes held a faint, scarlet glint.
Bai Zhi couldn’t help but gulp at the sight. ’Lang Qiu has such a serious face, but those ears on his head are so freaking adorable!!’
’This is totally my weakness!!’
Lang Qiu sensed a peculiar gaze and followed it, but by the time he looked over, Bai Zhi was already acting normal. He figured he must have imagined it.
Just then, Hu Yan asked, "Didn’t you decide not to go? Why’d you end up there tonight?"
Lang Qiu looked away and explained, "Aik said I’d get 200,000 Star Coins just for showing up tonight. I thought it was just an ordinary fight, but I never expected..."
He trailed off, his expression turning grim as he seemed to recall something.
Hu Yan looked at him. "What happened?"
Lang Qiu pressed his lips into a thin line. "We overheard them talking about money laundering. They’re planning to turn the underground fights into something like the Gladiatorial Arena! We were about to leave when their men spotted us."
He murmured, "The Red Flame Beast was just the beginning. It was a test—for the wealthy patrons, and for how much the fighters would tolerate."
Yan Yichen was the first to curse. "Fuck! How dare they! They’re just treating the fighters like they’re disposable tools!"
Bai Zhi’s whimsical thoughts vanished. Recalling the scene inside, she said with a grim expression, "So tonight was just the beginning. They’re deliberately experimenting with high-level opponents and high stakes. Once people get used to it, they’ll slowly change the game. Almost everyone made a lot of money tonight. After a few more rounds like this, they’ll start making the fighters lose. The odds will be huge. Most people have a gambler’s mindset—the more they lose, the more they want to win back. Once the system is established, they’ll start controlling the outcome of every single match."
At this point, Hu Yan suddenly dropped some more grim news. "While I was looking for you, I overheard some badly injured fighters asking them for help finding an Advanced Healer. Their response was to just throw the fighters out."
Lang Qiu’s expression was grim. "You need connections to get an Advanced Healer; ordinary people can’t even get in touch with one. An injury that requires an Advanced Healer will lead to disability or even death if left untreated! Many of those fighters have been with that place since it first opened..."
"They’re using this as an excuse to clean house and get rid of the old guard!"
Hearing this, Bai Zhi frowned. "If they realize you’re gone, they’ll definitely send people out to look for you. You two shouldn’t go out for a while."
Hu Yan thought for a moment. "Grand Domain Estate should be safe enough. We can find two people who look like you to create a decoy, make it seem like you’ve left town. Then we’ll give them something else to deal with. They shouldn’t have time to look for you."
Lang Qiu nodded. "Okay."
Just then, Sang Mo, who had been silent the whole time, suddenly smiled. "They probably don’t have time to chase you right now."
Instantly, everyone but Yan Yichen, who was driving, turned to look at him.
Sang Mo’s expression was nonchalant. "While you were leaving, I just popped over to the room next to where they were keeping people. I turned their electric grill all the way up, and *accidentally* knocked the tablecloth and curtains onto it. Then I *accidentally* shut the windows and the door. They’re busy seeing their guests off, so it shouldn’t be discovered for a little while. By the time they find it, the place should be pretty much ashes."
Bai Zhi stared in astonishment. ’I can’t believe Sang Mo actually helped!’
’I always thought he was the type who didn’t get involved in these things.’
Lang Qiu stared at him in silence for a moment before reaching out to pat his shoulder. "Thanks."
Sang Mo knocked Lang Qiu’s hand away and said coolly, "I wasn’t helping you. I was helping myself. There were two people I can’t stand in there. This was just a convenient way to get rid of them."
Hearing Sang Mo’s words, Bai Zhi suddenly recalled something. ’Sang Mo had refused to go at first, but then for some unknown reason, he agreed to come along.’
’Was that the reason why?’
Lang Qiu nodded. "Right. Still, thanks."
Yan Yichen pulled the car into the garage and parked. "Enough with the thanks. We’re here. Let’s get out and head inside."
Hu Yan scooped up Yue Junxiao and got out of the car.
Yue Junxiao was a tiger, and even miniaturized, he wasn’t exactly tiny. But since Hu Yan and the others were Beastmen with builds much sturdier than a normal man’s, they could have easily carried one in each arm.
Once they were back at the house, everyone, as if by unspoken agreement, carried Yue Junxiao to Bai Zhi’s room.
Bai Zhi stared at the little white tiger on her bed. "..."
’That’s a tiger!!’
’A little tiger!’
’Before, with Hu Yan, he was in his human form at least. This is a little tiger in its beast form!!’
’He’s adorable, but I have no idea where to even start!’
Bai Zhi stared for a good ten seconds. She didn’t know if her inner monologue had been overheard or what, but there was a sudden knock at her door.
Hu Yan’s voice came from the other side. "First, use your spiritual power to wake him up. Then have him change back to his human form."
Hearing this, Bai Zhi let out a sigh of relief. ’Okay, good. At least it’s not... you know... a human-and-beast situation...’
’I don’t think my conscience could have handled it otherwise.’
Yue Junxiao awoke, soothed by Bai Zhi’s spiritual power. Still dazed, he rubbed his little head against her, tickling her skin.
Bai Zhi couldn’t resist reaching out to stroke his fur. It was incredibly smooth.
The touch seemed to wake Yue Junxiao up a bit more. His scarlet eyes snapped open. The moment he saw Bai Zhi, his fur stood on end. He leaped up on the bed, his body tensed, and he let out a low, threatening growl, baring his fangs.
’What is this woman planning to do to me now that I’m injured?!’
The threat from the King of Beasts made Bai Zhi jump. She froze on the spot. Even though he was only a foot or two long, she knew it was Yue Junxiao, and she didn’t dare move a muscle.
Her voice trembled. "I-I just want to help you stabilize your spiritual power."
Yue Junxiao tilted his head, staring at Bai Zhi. He realized something. ’Is she... afraid of me?’
The fact that Bai Zhi was afraid of him was a novel experience.
Seeing that he seemed to understand, Bai Zhi’s voice trembled as she asked, "C-could you change back to your human form?"
Yue Junxiao reverted to his human form. Due to his unstable spiritual power, his ears and tail wouldn’t change back. A long tail drooped behind him, and he was so unsteady he couldn’t even stand, collapsing into a sitting position on the bed.
Bai Zhi looked at Yue Junxiao’s face—still youthful, but with a rebelliously handsome air. That, combined with his twitching white ears, and the fact that his spiritual power was so weak he couldn’t even stand, made him collapse back onto the bed where his tail now swayed anxiously. In an instant, all of Bai Zhi’s earlier fear vanished, replaced by an overwhelming sense of cuteness. She was completely smitten!
