Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Special Game
Bai Zhi tilted her head slightly, glancing at Hu Yan and the others. "My Beast Husbands. What is it? Can’t they come in?"
"Normally, you can only bring one person inside..." Seeing the look on Bai Zhi’s face darken, he quickly added, "But as compensation for our discourtesy just now, we can make an exception and allow all three of them to enter."
Bai Zhi gave a reserved nod. "Let’s go."
Aik led them inside.
Inside the bar, there were quite a few Beastmen and females. Several sub-beastmen and Sub-females were dancing on a stage.
After looking around for a while, they still couldn’t find the entrance.
Aik said, "This way, please. You need to register for a membership and pay the fee. Would you like to become a regular member or a special member?"
Bai Zhi said with feigned impatience, "Of course, I’ll take whichever is the higher level! Hurry up. The event downstairs will be over soon."
They arrived at a room, where Aik said with a smile, "Understood. It’s quite a coincidence you’ve come tonight. A client requested a special game downstairs, and it won’t be over until after midnight."
Bai Zhi’s heart skipped a beat. ’Could this be why Lang Qiu and the others haven’t come back yet?’
She asked, feigning indifference, "What kind of special game?"
Aik said with a somewhat smug smile, "An old client of ours hunted an S-Class Red Flame Tiger. Whoever can defeat it will get 5 million Star Coins."
At these words, not only Bai Zhi but also Hu Yan couldn’t help but frown. Yan Yichen nearly lost his composure; it was only when Sang Mo slapped him with his tail that he managed to restrain himself and avoid giving them away.
Bai Zhi frowned. "I thought this was a fighting ring. Why are people fighting an S-level Beast? Aren’t you afraid something will happen?"
Aik said, "Please scan this and fill out your information."
Bai Zhi quickly filled out the information.
While entering her information into the system, Aik explained, "That’s right. Today is special, and the prize money is many times higher than usual. Even if you don’t win, you get 200,000 Star Coins just for entering the ring. If you can injure the Red Flame Tiger, you get a 200,000 Star Coin reward each time. If the person dies, the direct compensation is 2 million Star Coins."
Upon hearing this, Bai Zhi couldn’t help but frown. "Just winning gets you five million, but a death is only worth two million Star Coins?"
Aik spread his hands helplessly. "There’s nothing to be done. You know that an S-level Beast isn’t cheap on the market. Its Beast Core alone is worth tens of millions. Its hide, meat, even its bones... the value it can generate is far more than what the life of a single Beastman can offset."
After a moment, he continued, "Many of our top fighters have entered the ring tonight, but no one has won yet. You can place a bet in a little while. You can even bet on how many times a specific fighter will injure the Red Flame Tiger. Some payouts can reach 1-to-100."
His words sent an involuntary chill down the spines of Bai Zhi and her companions.
An S-level Beast was impossible for one person to defeat; even two Beastmen with S-Class spiritual power attacking together weren’t guaranteed a victory.
Although an S-Class beast and an S-Class Beastman were ostensibly the same rank, the beast’s combat prowess was significantly higher.
Aik asked, "How would you like to pay?"
Bai Zhi quickly paid the fee.
Soon, Aik said, "Alright. Next time you come, you can enter directly. No one will stop you again."
Then he gestured forward with his hand. "This way, please."
Bai Zhi brazenly glanced around. "Do you have other ways for me to spend my money? I haven’t spent much today, and my hands are getting itchy."
’It looked like I was the one surveying the place, but I was actually covering for Hu Yan. I’d noticed him observing everything, and I didn’t want his actions to stand out and make them suspicious. Besides, in my experience, people’s attitudes only improved once you spent a certain amount of money. It also made it easier to coax more information out of them. Plus, my mission is ending in a little over an hour. I desperately need a place to spend some money!’
Aik had just seen the balance in Bai Zhi’s account. Hearing that she wanted to spend money, the smile on his face became even more cordial. After all, the more Bai Zhi spent, the larger his commission would be.
So he immediately began his pitch, "Of course. This floor has plenty to eat and drink. You can play some card games on the second floor. But the basement level is where the real fun is. You can bet on every match. Our fighters are the best on the entire Blue Star; I guarantee you’ll enjoy the show. If you’d rather not be seen, we have private rooms as well."
Bai Zhi thought for a moment and said, "Get us a private room with a good view. And bring us something to eat. Start with some fruits, pastries, that sort of thing."
’The main reason was that I’ve never been to the basement level, so I don’t know what it’s like down there.’
Aik said with a smile, "Certainly. I guarantee I’ll arrange the best possible view for you."
Then he took out a few blindfolds. "If you would all please put these on. It’s just a precaution, for your own safety, you see."
Seeing Hu Yan immediately take a blindfold and put it on, Bai Zhi shot it a disdainful look. She frowned haughtily and said, "I don’t mind wearing it, but you’d better hold onto me tight. If I fall, you won’t be able to afford it!"
Seeing this, Aik thought to himself, ’Just as I thought, a delicate female.’ He mentally filed her under the "harmless but big-spending" category.
But his face was all smiles as he said, "Don’t you worry. I’d sooner fall myself than let you take a tumble."
Bai Zhi secretly curled her lip. ’Of course. Is there any salesperson who isn’t a smooth talker?’
After they put on their blindfolds, they were led through a winding path for a long time before they heard the RUMBLING sound of a door opening.
Then, Bai Zhi faintly heard some noisy sounds, which grew louder as they walked.
After a while, Bai Zhi heard Aik say, "Alright, you can take off your blindfolds now."
Bai Zhi had just taken off her blindfold, her vision still blurry. As her eyes adjusted to the brightness, she found herself facing a dazzling spectacle of lights. They were on a high platform surrounded by spectators. In the center of the tiered arena, a large space was fenced off with special iron bars.
Inside the enclosure, a Beastman was currently "fighting" a tiger that had flames wreathing its four paws. To call it a fight was generous; it was more like the flaming tiger was toying with him.
"Get up! Get up and fight!"
"Red Flame Beast, burn him!"
Bai Zhi frowned slightly and swept her gaze over the venue. There weren’t that many people, perhaps about a thousand. After all, membership at this place had a steep financial requirement.
She looked around but didn’t see Lang Qiu or Yue Junxiao.
Just then, Aik gestured for her to walk to the right. "Your private room is this way."
As they walked, Aik said, "Please try not to get too close to the iron bars below before it’s over, to avoid any accidents. If you need anything, just press the button on the table, and someone will come to assist you."
"Got it."
The whole time, Hu Yan and the others followed silently behind, until they reached the private room with the best viewing position.
After Aik left, Yan Yichen immediately said, unable to contain himself, "We went through a total of twelve turns, two descending staircases, and one ascending staircase on our way in."
But Hu Yan shook his head. "He probably took us the long way on purpose. We passed by a few places more than once. I left some small markers that most people wouldn’t notice."
