“Chuyi, what’s wrong, does your foot hurt a lot? Why does your face look off?” Uncle Xia asked with concern by her side.

“I’m, I’m fine.” Xia Chuyi quickly got her emotions under control.

Her soul was of a certain age, so why did she become so childish whenever she encountered Huo Shiqian?

Could it really be true that being in love makes one’s IQ drop?

Bah, spit, spit, spit, she was definitely not in love with Huo Shiqian.

Xia Chuyi hurriedly brought her thoughts back.

...

“Uncle, tell me how you got into a car accident and met Uncle Liberation Army and the others?” she asked Uncle Xia earnestly.

A blatant diversion.

Huo Shiqian glanced at her indifferently and said nothing.

Childishness over, she began concentrating on chatting with Uncle Xia.

Through Uncle Xia’s recounting, she understood that he had taken on a friend’s request to deliver goods at the last minute, during which another driver, due to fatigue, crashed into the mountainside, causing rocks to thunderously tumble down.

Uncle Xia, having been resting at home recently and being in good spirits, reacted quickly—a sudden brake spared him from the falling rocks, but he ended up slipping and tumbling over, injuring his leg.

He managed to crawl out of the vehicle with difficulty, and there was no more movement from inside the other driver’s car.

At that moment, Huo Shiqian’s car appeared on the road as if heaven-sent.

And so, Huo Shiqian saved him and even took him to the hospital for treatment.

As for the other driver, he had died on the spot.

Uncle Xia recounted this with continual sighs of amazement: without Huo Shiqian, he might well have frozen to death there.

Xia Chuyi stole glances at Huo Shiqian.

Was his presence there and saving Uncle a coincidence, or was it deliberate?

Once they arrived home, Aunt Xia was in a state of panic and gave Xia Chuyi a severe scolding, yet she was more composed about Uncle Xia’s injury.

“Hey, it’s not the first or second time your uncle has been hurt…” Aunt Xia said with a flash of sorrow in her eyes, but she quickly collected herself.

“I must really thank this officer, thank you for rescuing our family head!” Aunt Xia said warmly, offering tea and looking after Mr. Huo.

Xia Chuyi, covered in mud, went to her room to change clothes and wash up.

Huo Shiqian declined Uncle Xia’s offer to change into clean clothes, sitting upright and dignified by the stove, holding his teacup, and taking a light sip with an indifferent expression.

“It was nothing, just lending a hand,” Huo Shiqian replied in a deep voice.

“How can it be nothing? You’re my lifesaver,” Uncle Xia said, perhaps feeling more relaxed at home and with the dignity of Mr. Huo diminished by the mud from Huo Shiqian holding Xia Chuyi, he completely eased up.

“If you don’t mind, stay over tonight and have a few drinks with me!” Mr. Huo seemed aloof, but his actions made Uncle Xia feel comfortable, leading him to extend the invitation.

Huo Shiqian opened his mouth to respond with three words: “On a mission.”

Uncle Xia shook his head regretfully, “That’s really unfortunate.”

“Right, wife, Mr. Huo’s car got dirty because of Chuyi, go help wash it,” Uncle Xia suddenly remembered, telling Aunt Xia.

“Sure!” Aunt Xia replied.

“No need, Xiao Wang should already be cleaning it,” Huo Shiqian said placidly.

“What?” Uncle Xia had thought Xiao Wang was just parking the car, only to realize he was cleaning it, and hurriedly said, “Wife, you better go take a look!”

Aunt Xia replied and quickly went to check.
