Chapter 412: Deal
"That’s right! Kill this jinx who brought disaster upon us!"
"Kill Idir!"
A faction of the elders joined in, relentlessly inciting the Serpent City beastmen. Harin and a few others remained silent, while Milt stood with his hands clasped behind his back, watching Idir without uttering a word.
Whiped into a frenzy by the propaganda, the crowd glared at Idir with burning resentment. Nina and her companions instantly shifted into a defensive stance.
Anxiety and inner conflict warred in Weena’s eyes. Was this catastrophe truly Idir’s doing?
Terrified, Penny ran to her father’s side. "Father, please help Idir! He isn’t a jinx!" She couldn’t bear to see him driven away again; if Idir left this time, she might never see him again.
Alar pulled her aside sternly. "Penny, stay out of this. I cannot help him."
Clutching his arm, she pleaded, "Father, I beg of you, please save him!" But Alar remained completely unmoved.
Watching Penny beg for Idir, Tair clenched his fists so tightly his knuckles cracked, a vicious glint flashing across his eyes.
Seeing that her father wouldn’t budge, Penny rushed over to Tair. "Tair, Idir is your friend! Please, you have to help him!"
Tair instantly masked his expression. Loosening his fists, he took her hand and said softly, "Alright. I’ll look for an opportunity to help him in a moment." Penny nodded, her eyes glued to Idir in deep worry, entirely missing the icy malice buried deep within Tair’s gaze.
Nina addressed the crowd one last time. "I will say this for the final time: your water sources are poisoned. If you choose to believe lies instead of me, there is nothing more I can do. However, this has absolutely nothing to do with Idir, and I will not let any of you lay a single finger on him."
She had said everything that needed to be said and provided all the proof necessary. If they chose to blindly follow treacherous advice, she was done wasting her breath.
"Lord of Barbarian City, though you lied, we assume you were simply bewitched by Idir," Bafar called out. "If you leave right now, we won’t harm you. But if you insist on protecting this jinx, don’t blame us for being ruthless."
He knew these City Lords were incredibly powerful; if possible, he preferred to avoid making enemies of them for now. But Idir had to die. He had escaped once; today, Bafar would ensure he never left alive.
"Indeed! Protecting Idir means declaring yourself an enemy of Serpent City!" another elder barked.
"Do you think I’m afraid of you?" Nina countered coldly. "Bring it on if you think you have the strength. Idir is my mate, and I will not allow you to bully him."
Bafar exchanged a sharp glance with a few elders, then bellowed, "Attack!"
They surged forward, rushing toward Idir.
A chilling light flashed through Nina’s beautiful eyes. With a sudden burst of energy, countless thick vines erupted into the sky, violently lashing out at the attacking beastmen.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Dozens of beastmen were sent flying through the air. Even the elders who threw up their full defenses were instantly ensnared by the relentless vines. Suspended high in the air by the massive roots, they thrashed around in a pathetic, agonizing struggle.
"Who else wants a turn?" Nina’s voice was pure ice.
The remaining crowd scrambled backward in sheer terror. Not a single beastman dared to take a step forward.
Heavens, she is terrifyingly strong!
Deep apprehension filled the eyes of Milt and the elders. No wonder she had claimed she had a thousand ways to take the Sacred Relic if she wanted to—she truly possessed the raw power to back it up.
Hidden in the shadows, a pair of eyes narrowed as they locked onto her. Idir’s female is this powerful? Eliminating him won’t be as easy as I thought.
Weena’s eyes widened in awe. She is incredible. No wonder she’s a City Lord. Penny felt a sudden, crushing wave of defeat wash over her, her gaze dimming.
Tair frowned darkly. It seems killing Idir today is out of the question.
Behind Nina, her mates and Ming’s group stood casually with their arms crossed, completely at ease. The cubs looked on with stars in their eyes—Mother is the coolest!
Reining in his hostility, Milt took a conciliatory step forward. "Lord of Barbarian City, let us speak reasonably."
"Weren’t your people the ones who drew first blood?" Nina countered.
Milt cleared his throat awkwardly. "This was our mistake, and I apologize. Could you please release our elders first?"
"They wanted to murder my mate. Why on earth should I let them go?" Nina tightened the vines slightly, causing the suspended elders to groan in agony.
"We swear we will never trouble Idir again, and we will compensate you generously. Please, just release them," Milt pleaded.
Nina looked up at the writhing elders and tightened her grip even further. "Is Idir a jinx?"
The elders’ faces turned purple, their breath trapped in their throats as their bones groaned under the crushing pressure. Driven by pure survival instinct, they choked out, "N-No... he is not!"
"Will you ever dare to touch him again?"
"N-Never again!"
"Is the water poisoned?"
"Yes!"
"Who did it?"
"It was—"
Swish!
Just as one of the elders was about to speak, a sudden, lethal wind blade sliced through the air, slitting his throat instantly. He died on the spot.
Nina snapped her head toward the origin of the attack, but the culprit had already vanished back into the panicked crowd. The remaining captive elders instantly clamped their mouths shut, too terrified to speak another word.
Aside from Bafar and the other elder who had been actively fueling the flames alongside him, Nina violently slammed the rest of the elders onto the ground.
She swept her deadly gaze over the trembling beastmen of Serpent City. "Let this be a warning. Anyone who dares touch Idir in the future will end up just like them."
With two sickening cracks, Bafar and his accomplice had their necks snapped, dying instantly. Nina tossed their lifeless bodies to the dirt. She looked at the remaining elders—she would leave the rest of them for Idir to deal with personally when the time came.
Idir’s eyes softened with profound affection. Being protected by his female felt incredibly wonderful.
Sal stroked his chin thoughtfully, a smirk playing on his lips. Man, I really want to kidnap Nina back to Sin City City to wipe out all my rivals. Her other mates were equally spellbound by how dominant and majestic their female was.
The citizens of Serpent City swallowed hard, vowing to themselves never to provoke Idir again.
The surviving elders looked on with grim, terrified expressions. Staring at Bafar’s corpse, a sudden wave of panic hit them—Bafar hadn’t shared his secret method for unleashing the Sacred Relic’s power yet! They were infuriated, but none dared to challenge Nina now.
"Lord of Barbarian City, we will end today’s matter here," Milt said, his brow furrowing deeply as he looked at Bafar’s body. "We will no longer trouble Idir, but I must ask you to leave our city. As for the Sacred Relic, it is far too precious to us; we will not trade it. If you truly want it, you will have to come and take it yourself."
"Deal," Nina replied smoothly. She cast a meaningful glance at Milt. "City Lord Milt, I trust you heard what your elders just confessed. I hope you make the right decisions moving forward."
There was no point in staying inside the city anyway; the contaminated water sources made even basic survival troublesome. Once the reinforcements dispatched by her mates and fathers arrived, they could simply seize the Sacred Relic by force. For now, they were outnumbered, but in a few days, the tables would turn effortlessly.
"Thank you for the warning." Milt retrieved a generous amount of compensation from his spatial storage and handed it over.
With that, Nina led her mates, Ming, and the rest of their party out of Serpent City. Weena watched Idir’s retreating figure with a heavily conflicted heart, while Penny nervously fidgeted with the hem of her clothes, her mind a chaotic mess.
Back at the City Lord’s castle, Milt gathered the elders of the Serpent Clan, while the witch doctors frantically went back to treating the sick beastmen.
Seated in the grand hall, Milt looked around the room. "Bafar claimed he knew a way to unleash the power of the Sacred Relic. Does anyone else know what it is?"
Alar stepped forward. "City Lord, I know."
"What is it?" Milt and the elders looked at him with renewed hope.
"The Essence Convergence Array," Alar revealed.
The elders looked confused. "An Essence Convergence Array? What is that?"
Alar explained calmly, "It is a formation designed to pool immense energy together. If a single beastman attempts to activate the Sacred Relic, the power they can draw upon is minimal. However, by utilizing this array, we can combine the bloodline power of numerous beastmen, thereby fully unleashing the Sacred Relic’s true might."
"Will this method actually work?" an elder asked anxiously.
"The chances of success are highly favorable," Alar replied.
"Wonderful!" The elders beamed with excitement.
However, Harin narrowed his eyes and looked squarely at Alar. "And what is the catch? Does this array carry any consequences?"
