Chapter 287: Chapter 287: You Are Already Divorced
"Who says I never loved Vincent? We’ve always been in love!" Joanna Sherman froze for a moment, then immediately retorted, "If it weren’t for Sophia Shaw, we would’ve been married long ago!"
"All I ever saw was Vincent giving in to you. You didn’t want to deal with the Grants’ disapproval, so he left the family to start his own company. You wanted to build rockets, so he gave you the money and resources to establish Zenith. From start to finish, you’ve always been the one taking everything for granted!"
"I have not!"
Jaden Rhodes didn’t argue, just looked at her.
But Joanna Sherman could say nothing more than those three feeble words, "I have not."
Jaden Rhodes put his hands in his pockets and shrugged.
Joanna Sherman could only look to Jenson Forrest. "Jenson, help me tell him! I’m not!"
Jenson Forrest said coolly, "I don’t know whether you are or not, but you’re wrong when you say Vincent only cared about Sophia Shaw and not you."
"If Vincent had truly been caring for Sophia Shaw, he wouldn’t have let her go through ten months of pregnancy all by herself, nor would he have let her give birth alone. And he certainly wouldn’t have let his own daughter... get taken by a madman and nearly die in the mountains!"
"Joanna, search your conscience and ask yourself: while Sophia Shaw was going through all that, where was Vincent?"
Joanna Sherman: "..."
No one knew better than her where Vincent Grant was.
Every single time, he was with her!
Without exception!
"Jenson, you..." Joanna Sherman looked at Jenson Forrest in disbelief.
’I just "saved" his sister,’ she thought. ’How can he target me like this!’
After listening to what Lillian Forrest had said, Jenson Forrest had carefully questioned Liam Reed and Ma Lane about Joanna Sherman.
He found out that Joanna Sherman had been giving gifts to Ma Lane to inquire about his and Lillian Forrest’s movements.
Liam Reed also confessed that although he had thoughts of defiling Lillian Forrest, it was just an offhand comment at first.
It was only after hearing Joanna Sherman expose the relationship between Lillian Forrest and Rhea Dunn that he became anxious and acted prematurely.
Combined with the fact that Liam Reed was being monitored by people Joanna Sherman had sent, many things became clear.
Even without concrete evidence, Jenson Forrest had already realized that Joanna Sherman was, just as Sophia Shaw had said, not a good person.
Joanna Sherman knew she wouldn’t gain anything by staying any longer. Biting her lip, she wrenched her hand free from Vincent Grant’s and stumbled away.
Her assistant quickly chased after her.
Not far away, Joel Hale emerged, his expression as dark as it could be.
’Joanna Sherman is now despised by everyone. I picked the wrong side—unbelievably wrong!’
After Joanna Sherman left, the air was thick with a brief, awkward silence.
Jaden Rhodes answered a call. "Sorry, something came up. I have to go."
He turned and left.
"Care for a drink?"
Instead of heading to the private room, Jenson Forrest walked toward the main lounge outside.
Vincent Grant followed him, and the two sat down in an inconspicuous booth.
They were regulars here and kept a bottle.
Jenson Forrest had the waiter bring a bottle of Louis XIII.
Vincent Grant looked at him, a bit surprised.
Unlike Justin Hughes, Jenson Forrest was extremely self-disciplined and rarely drank such strong liquor.
Jenson Forrest poured two glasses, pushed one to Vincent Grant, and picked up the other, taking a sip.
Vincent Grant held his glass and watched him. "I never realized you know Faye better than I do. Since when did you two get so close?"
Back then, Jenson Forrest’s dislike for Sophia Shaw was no less than Justin Hughes’s; he was just more reserved and didn’t show it as obviously.
The look in Jenson Forrest’s eyes couldn’t fool another man.
"Jenson, I consider you my best friend. Faye is my wife."
Vincent Grant’s serious words were met with a laugh from Jenson Forrest.
He put down his glass and looked directly at Vincent Grant. "Vincent, my opinion of her changed starting from when she saved Lillian."
"Remember that time Lillian was kidnapped? The one who saved her... was Sophia Shaw."
Vincent Grant was stunned.
He never knew Sophia Shaw had saved someone.
Jenson Forrest had said that the kidnappers were vicious and ruthless. If Sophia Shaw hadn’t been quick-witted, Lillian Forrest might have been sold abroad long ago.
"How... did she end up there?"
"Was she hurt? Was she scared?"
Just thinking about the scene made Vincent Grant’s heart clench.
"Isn’t it a bit late for you to be asking these questions now?" Jenson Forrest retorted bluntly.
Vincent Grant froze.
"Fortunately, Faye is truly brilliant. She saved both herself and Lillian that time."
Jenson Forrest looked at Vincent Grant seriously. "Vincent, you claim to be her husband over and over, but you don’t even know the hardships and pain she’s been through. Are you worthy?"
"I’d suggest you get together with Joanna. She doesn’t love anyone but herself, and you, coincidentally, don’t know how to cherish the person in front of you."
Jenson Forrest’s words were like a slap to Vincent Grant’s face. His hand faltered, and he nearly knocked over his glass.
Jenson Forrest rarely saw Vincent Grant looking so panicked and flustered.
Even back when he realized he’d slept with the wrong person, he had chosen to handle it calmly.
He had immediately found Joanna Sherman to apologize, expressing that if she were willing to forgive him, he would resolve all the problems.
Even at great cost.
Among their group of friends, Vincent Grant was undoubtedly the most charismatic.
Unfortunately, that charisma became the knife that cut Sophia Shaw, slice by slice, leaving her covered in wounds.
And he, too, had become Vincent Grant’s accomplice.
A pained look was suppressed beneath Jenson Forrest’s brow. "You ask how I got so close to her. Do you remember that time during the typhoon, when you abandoned her on the mountain to save Joanna Sherman?"
"She almost died there... I was the one who saved her."
"When I found her, she was almost completely buried in sand. A few more minutes and she would have suffocated!"
Vincent Grant’s fingers tightened again. His heart felt as if it were being fiercely constricted by thin steel wires, the pain making it impossible to breathe.
That was the first time Sophia Shaw had ever laid a hand on him, slapping him twice in a row.
It was also the first time Sophia Shaw had so decisively asked him for a divorce.
’Divorce!’
He suddenly thought of Joanna Sherman’s words: "You two are already divorced!"
CRACK!
Vincent Grant shot to his feet. The glass in his hand fell to the floor, shattering into countless sharp-edged fragments that seemed to stab at his eyes.
But then he calmed down.
’Divorce is a matter between two people. It requires my signature, and there’s a waiting period. I haven’t done any of that. How could we possibly be divorced?’
’I was just being too sensitive.’
He sat back down.
But instead of calling the waiter for another glass, he said, "So it was you who saved her."
Jenson Forrest had never mentioned this before.
"Faye is a sincere person. She was very grateful that I saved her life and wanted to repay me. I saw how much Lil relied on her, so I asked her to tutor Lil, and she agreed."
At this, Jenson Forrest gave a bitter laugh.
"Speaking of which, I feel quite guilty, wasting the time of a bona fide rocket genius on tutoring my sister in high school subjects."
"But I’m truly grateful to Faye. If it weren’t for her, Lillian wouldn’t have become so confident and brave, and she wouldn’t have gotten into her current school."
"Vincent Grant, I don’t consider myself worthy of being with Faye, but at least I saved her once."
"What about you?"
What about you?
What about you?
Once again, Vincent Grant’s mouth felt dry.
’It seems...’ he thought, ’...as her husband, I can’t even compare to Jenson Forrest.’
