Chapter 263: Chapter 263: Who Is More Ruthless

Levin Sawyer had been out of town on a business trip for the past few days. He had rushed back in a frantic hurry the moment he heard Bun had a fever.

Levin Sawyer gently held Bun, his face etched with deep concern and heartache, his gaze incredibly soft. "Bun, does it feel bad? I’m sorry, Daddy’s only just gotten back to see our little Bun."

"Mmm, mmm, mmm." Bun wasn’t feeling as bad anymore and was finally willing to make a sound. She whimpered softly, as if telling Levin Sawyer how awful she had felt before.

Levin Sawyer’s eyes turned red.

"Daddy’s little sweetheart."

Cedric Grant’s eyes widened as he stared at Levin Sawyer.

He watched him hold Bun, watched him lay her on the bed to change her diaper after holding her, watched him use a spoon to feed her little sips of water.

Vincent Grant also looked at Levin Sawyer and saw the same scene unfold.

Levin Sawyer made no effort to hide it, calling himself "Daddy" and calling her his "little sweetheart." Vincent’s face darkened terribly.

Cedric Grant finally couldn’t take it anymore. He shoved the door open and stormed in, tears streaming down his face as he pointed at Levin Sawyer. "Mommy, didn’t you say we’d be a bother if we stayed to help? How come this uncle gets to stay?"

Sophia Shaw’s differential treatment cut him to the quick.

Cedric Grant was utterly heartbroken.

"Why would you rather have some other uncle stay here and take care of Bun, but not me and Daddy...?"

Vincent Grant’s expression was also extremely grim.

"Mr. Sawyer, thank you for your concern for my wife and child. However, please refrain from calling yourself her father in the future."

Levin Sawyer chuckled. "President Grant, what’s with the baseless jealousy?"

"Let me offer a word of advice, President Grant. There are some things you shouldn’t get jealous over. It won’t end well for you."

"I, Vincent Grant, have indeed made many mistakes, but I have never considered giving my child to someone else!" Vincent Grant replied in a low voice. "If President Sawyer likes children so much, he can have his own."

"Exactly!" Cedric Grant chimed in angrily. "If you want a child, uncle, have your own! You’re not allowed to steal my little sister!"

"Mommy, if you don’t like me playing with Auntie Joanna, I’ll stop. Why did you have to find another uncle to come and take my sister away?"

"How could you... how could you be so cruel?"

Cedric Grant thought Joanna Sherman was right. Sophia Shaw was truly cruel-hearted.

Cruel for forcing Grandpa to sell the family assets, and cruel to him.

Even Ms. Archer couldn’t listen to this anymore. "Young man, do you really not know why your mother is being cruel to you?"

"If you hadn’t been cruel to her first, if you hadn’t shattered her heart, do you think she would do this?"

Cedric Grant’s eyes flickered with guilt. He thought of the time he had accidentally stepped on Bun and hurt her.

"It was an accident... I already apologized... I never meant to hurt Bun."

"Cedric."

Sophia Shaw slowly walked over.

Some things needed to be said to their faces. Otherwise, this tangled mess would never be unraveled.

Sophia Shaw extended a hand toward him.

Not understanding, Cedric Grant reached out and took her fingers, his eyes fixed on her.

Sophia Shaw’s eyes were bright and calm. "You are a child, and I shouldn’t be confronting you about these things. But when you say you weren’t cruel, I have to disagree."

"The day you were with your Auntie Joanna, watching her adopted daughter be born, I called you. I wanted you to help me find your father. Because I was in danger while giving birth to your sister. I couldn’t reach him. At that moment, the only person who could reach him, the only one who could save me, was you!"

"You hung up without even giving me a chance to speak. It nearly cost both me and my baby our lives. Wasn’t that cruel?"

Cedric Grant was speechless.

The torrent of tears suddenly stopped, not a single one more falling. He stared at Sophia Shaw in shock.

’Mommy’s call... was because she was in danger giving birth to my little sister?’

’So when Mommy said something terrible was happening to her, this is what she meant!’

"Mommy, I just thought you were calling me home again, I just..."

Cedric Grant couldn’t continue.

No excuse could cover up the fact that he had chosen Joanna Sherman over his mother and sister!

"And this? Do you remember this?"

Sophia Shaw pulled up Joanna Sherman’s social media feed.

Cedric Grant only needed a single glance to remember.

That was the day Stella Grant had accidentally fallen off the bed and bruised her forehead. It was one of his greatest regrets.

Because he was the one who had accidentally let Stella Grant slip and fall.

The bed wasn’t high, but Stella Grant was so small. The red mark on her forehead made him feel so guilty he wished he could disembowel himself in apology!

From that day on, he swore he would never let Stella Grant fall again.

And he had kept his promise!

For a time, it was one of the things he was most proud of as an older brother.

Sophia Shaw understood just by the look in his eyes.

She gently lifted Bun’s clothes.

On Bun’s round, chubby belly, a long scar was starkly visible.

Although a child’s body heals quickly and the scar had shrunk and faded a lot, it was still clear that a very serious injury had been sustained there!

"What... what happened here?" Vincent Grant also saw the injury on Bun, his eyes trembling violently as he asked softly.

Hearing Vincent Grant’s question, Levin Sawyer’s temper flared. "You have the nerve to ask?"

"You and your precious son spent day and night with your precious Joanna and her ’sister,’ completely ignoring Faye and Bun!"

"Faye went through a dangerous childbirth alone and recovered from her wounds during her postpartum confinement alone."

"On the day she was discharged from the hospital, it was because no one was with her that a madman had the chance to abduct Bun!"

"Do you know that the madman ran with her in the middle of the road that day, nearly getting hit by cars several times!"

"Then the madman took her into the mountains for an entire night!"

As soon as Levin Sawyer finished speaking, Cedric Grant remembered.

He had seen that news story!

’The woman in the news report... was that Mommy?’

Vincent Grant’s back stiffened. He remembered it too!

He looked at Sophia Shaw in disbelief. "Faye..."

At the mention of this, Ms. Archer also grew sad, and tears streamed down her face.

"Faye was so helpless back then! She called you so many times!"

"But you never picked up, not even once!"

Levin Sawyer continued, "Faye didn’t want to disturb the wonderful life you and your Auntie Joanna’s family were having. She just... she just wanted to use Starlink to help find Bun."

"If you had answered the phone, Bun wouldn’t have been abused for an entire night, wouldn’t have almost... died!"

"Vincent Grant, you really are a son of a bitch!" He abruptly grabbed Vincent Grant by the collar. "If your Joanna Sherman and her daughter are so important, then what are you doing coming back to find Faye and Bun?"

"A beast like you deserves to be shackled to a bitch like her for eternity, locked up tight!"

He clenched his fists tightly. If he weren’t afraid of scaring Bun, he would have already thrown a punch.

"Get out! Get the hell out!"

He shoved Vincent Grant away forcefully.

Vincent Grant’s back hit the wall. On the rebound, he splurted out another mouthful of blood.

The onlookers shrieked in terror.

Levin Sawyer’s gaze was icy. "Spit up some more blood. If you don’t, how could you possibly atone for the evil things you’ve done!"

Cedric Grant never imagined that the thing he was proudest of was connected to such a horrific event. He was filled with regret and fear. Seeing Vincent Grant vomit blood terrified him even more, and he rushed over. "Dad! Daddy!"

SLAM!

Levin Sawyer slammed the door shut.

’If he’s going to die, he can do it outside!’

Vincent Grant struggled to lift his head, staring at the closed door. Though blood was constantly trickling from his mouth, he felt nothing.

His gaze was filled with agony and remorse.

Cedric Grant supported Vincent Grant. "Daddy, are you okay? Daddy, we’ve done so many wrong things... what do we do? What do we do now?"

After a long while, Vincent Grant laboriously raised a hand to touch Cedric Grant’s head. "Let’s go."

In his current state, staying here would only frighten the people inside the room.

’Since I haven’t done anything good, I shouldn’t cause them any more trouble.’

Inside the room.

It was quiet for a long time.

Although the incident had happened several months ago, it remained an unhealable scar on Sophia Shaw’s heart.

Picking at it was excruciatingly painful.

Ms. Archer was also constantly wiping away her tears. She couldn’t help but remember how Bun had looked when she was rescued—lifeless and covered in injuries.

And the sight of Sophia Shaw kneeling in agony outside the operating room.

’All of this should have been filmed for that father and son to see!’
