Chapter 250: Chapter 250: If You Can’t Get His Heart, Get His Body First
"Damn it, how could this be happening!"
Sharon Sherman sat in her room, roaring in frustration and tugging frantically at her hair.
She was just resentful. She just wanted to get back at the Shaw Family for embarrassing her last time, so she had commented on the livestream that Sophia Shaw was using an adopted daughter to build her reputation.
But then Sophia Shaw said the girl wasn’t adopted, but her own biological child?
When did she ever have a child?
Sharon Sherman couldn’t figure it out.
Even though she wasn’t close to Sophia Shaw, if Sophia had really given birth, shouldn’t she have broadcasted it to the world?
How had there not been even a whisper of it?
Just as Sharon Sherman was puzzling over this, the door was slammed open with a BANG.
Joanna Sherman burst in like a black whirlwind.
Sharon stood up and called out, "Sis, you’re just in time. Sophia Shaw..."
SLAP!
Joanna Sherman slapped her across the face.
She roared at her,
"This is all your fault!"
"Did you have nothing better to do? Why would you bring up Sophia Shaw’s child at a time like this!"
Sharon Sherman was baffled by the slap. "Sis, I was trying to help you! Why... why did you hit me?"
"Help me?" Joanna Sherman flexed her fingers, itching to slap Sharon again.
"And how exactly did you help me?"
Joanna Sherman threw her phone at her. "Sophia Shaw said that child is her biological one. Do you have any idea what that means!"
Sharon Sherman flinched as the phone hit her. "I didn’t know the child was biological! If I had known, I would never have posted that comment."
She had just been torn apart by netizens.
"If you didn’t know the child was biological, then you should have kept your mouth shut, do you understand?!" Joanna Sherman shrieked hysterically, her eyes wide and glaring as if she could devour Sharon whole.
"My life is hard enough as it is, and you’re here making things worse!"
"Sharon Sherman, you did this on purpose, didn’t you!"
Even as she was cursing out Sharon, her own eyes began to redden.
"What’s going on here? Sharon, were you bullying your sister?"
Chad Jennings, Brian Sherman, and Selina Zelia heard the commotion and came running.
Seeing Joanna Sherman’s red-rimmed eyes, Chad Jennings jumped to a conclusion.
He immediately started lecturing Sharon. "Sharon, can’t you just behave? Your sister has been under so much pressure lately. Why are you causing more trouble!"
Sharon Sherman clutched her face, indignant. "How am I causing trouble for her? Uncle, didn’t you see she’s the one who hit me?"
Chad Jennings was momentarily embarrassed.
"You can’t just blame me because she’s under pressure! It’s not like I’m the one who put her under pressure!"
In the past, Sharon Sherman wouldn’t have dared to talk back to Chad Jennings.
Back then, Chad Jennings and Yvonne Sherman were her family’s benefactors. They doted on Joanna and always criticized Sharon for not doing this or that right, so she could only endure it.
But now Yvonne Sherman was in prison, Chad Jennings had lost nearly his entire fortune, and Joanna Sherman was becoming more and more useless. The resentment Sharon had been bottling up finally erupted without reservation.
Selina Zelia rushed to Sharon’s side and pulled her hand away. Seeing the red palm print on her daughter’s face, her own face went dark.
"I say, Joanna, what heinous crime did Sharon commit that deserved such a heavy hand from you?"
Sharon Sherman grabbed Selina Zelia’s arm and cried out pitifully, "Mom! I was just trying to stand up for Sis and called out Sophia Shaw on her livestream! It was Sophia herself who said her second child was biological. What does that have to do with me!"
With Selina Zelia backing her up, she found her courage and confronted Joanna again. "What’s the use of taking your anger out on me, Sis? If you’re so great, you should’ve stopped Sophia Shaw from having a baby in the first place!"
Selina Zelia stroked her daughter’s face with pity. Hearing that Sophia Shaw’s daughter was biological, she couldn’t help but gasp.
Chad Jennings and Brian Sherman looked at each other in dismay.
Clearly, they too were shocked by the news.
Selina Zelia looked at Joanna Sherman with a meaningful glance. "Joanna, Sharon really didn’t do anything wrong. You’re so angry... could it be that you already knew Sophia Shaw’s child was her biological one?"
"What are you talking about!" Joanna Sherman retorted instantly.
Selina Zelia had, after all, watched Joanna grow up and knew her temperament well.
Seeing her answer so quickly, Selina pursed her lips.
"Whether you knew or not, this was bound to come out. It’s unrealistic to expect Sophia Shaw to keep it a secret for her whole life."
"What do you know!" Joanna Sherman snapped, extremely agitated.
She had never cared whether Sophia Shaw revealed the truth or not. What she cared about was the attitude of Vincent Grant and Cedric Grant!
Before, those two didn’t believe Sophia Shaw, so it didn’t matter what she said.
But now, everything had changed!
Her immense pride wouldn’t allow her to admit that Vincent Grant and Cedric Grant no longer cared about her, so she could only bite her lip fiercely.
But Sharon Sherman saw right through her and sneered, "Sis, don’t tell me you’re losing your grip on Vincent Grant and Cedric Grant."
"You can’t hold onto them, so you take your anger out on me? What’s that about?"
"I’m not your punching bag."
For years, Selina Zelia had resented the attitude Joanna Sherman’s family took toward her own.
They always acted as if Joanna were some noble queen, and their whole family had to cater to and protect her, like serving a high-and-mighty princess.
If Joanna was the least bit unhappy, Yvonne Sherman and Chad Jennings would naturally blame it on Sharon, and then blame Selina and her husband for not knowing how to raise their child.
Back then, there were benefits involved, so they could tolerate it. Now there was nothing, so why the hell should they put up with it?
Selina Zelia didn’t address Joanna directly but pointedly spoke to Chad Jennings. "Brother-in-law, your family has fallen on hard times. You said your son couldn’t get used to a rental apartment and moved into our house. We were kind enough to make room for you, and this is how you repay us?"
"We treat you like family, and you treat us like servants? If that’s the case, our humble home can’t accommodate royalty like you. You’d better find another place to live."
For Yvonne Sherman’s sake, Brian Sherman wanted to say a few neutral words, but he couldn’t bring himself to speak up before Selina Zelia shot him a glare.
She pulled him and Sharon downstairs.
Chad Jennings and Joanna Sherman were left alone in the room.
Chad then anxiously approached Joanna. "Joanna, is it true? That child of Sophia Shaw’s is really her biological one?"
Joanna Sherman clenched her fists tightly, unable to speak.
Chad Jennings let out a groan and slapped his own head.
A moment later, however, he brightened up. "Joanna, this is a good thing! Sophia Shaw gave birth, and Vincent Grant, her own husband, didn’t even know. That just shows how cold her heart must be toward him."
"It’s even more impossible for them to get back together now. This is your chance!"
Chad Jennings was being incredibly optimistic. "You two have so many years of history. And Vincent Grant isn’t a philanderer. For the rest of his life, you’ll be the only one by his side!"
"This is what you call a blessing in disguise!"
"Blessing my ass!" Joanna Sherman, who had always prided herself on being noble and arrogant, couldn’t stop herself from swearing.
She was so full of anguish, she wished she could scream out even more curses.
’So nobility is just something built on a foundation of good circumstances,’ she thought.
’Without those noble conditions, she was no different from a common woman on the street, no different from any ordinary shrew!’
"I was abroad for five or six years, and Vincent Grant never strayed. Don’t you know why?"
"It’s because he feels he owes me!"
The more Joanna Sherman thought about it, the more she despaired.
"Back then, he was this guilty when he only accidentally betrayed me. Now that he’s suddenly found out Sophia Shaw had his child, what do you think he’ll do?"
Hearing this, Chad Jennings sucked in a sharp breath.
It takes a man to know a man.
’When you truly care about a woman, you want to cherish her, to hold her in the very core of your heart.’ he thought.
’To know you’ve wronged that woman... that’s something you’ll regret for the rest of your life.’
It was just like back then, when he unexpectedly found out that Yvonne Sherman had also borne him a daughter. He had wanted to treat her well unconditionally, to lay the best of the world at her feet.
And he felt even more so toward their daughter, Joanna Sherman.
No matter how Joanna bullied Sophia Shaw, he always felt she was just trying to get a little bit of fairness. Sophia had monopolized him as a father for so long; it was only right for her to pay a small price.
As for what Vincent Grant would do... was there any need to even think about it?
’What a pity,’ he thought. ’Sophia Shaw is just an ungrateful wolf; she always loves to oppose me.’
If Vincent sided with her, he himself wouldn’t get a single thing out of it!
Chad Jennings, worried sick, said as if throwing all caution to the wind, "Joanna, the only way now is to hold on to Vincent Grant for dear life. Even if you can’t win his heart, you have to get his body first!"
