Chapter 234: Chapter 234: She Is Truly In Love
Levin Sawyer and Sophia Shaw, oblivious to who was following them, chatted as they walked out.
When they reached the main entrance, Sophia Shaw stopped short, staring blankly at the red carpet, balloons, and banners. "When was all this set up?"
Levin Sawyer patted her arm, exasperated. "You’re going to be the death of Mr. Owen and the others! They came at three in the morning to hang these banners for your surprise. And what did you do? You came in at ten last night and just stayed at the base, never even going home."
Sophia Shaw pursed her lips.
’She didn’t like such ostentatious displays.’
"You must be exhausted after going through all that data and footage last night," Levin Sawyer asked with concern.
Sophia Shaw was truly a force to be reckoned with. In a single night, she had reviewed all the data from the previous satellite launch, not missing a single piece of saved footage.
That was how she was able to create a crystal-clear list of every problem during the launch, along with the responsible parties.
"Honestly, if you hadn’t gone through all the data, you might never have discovered that Howard Holloway and Xander Archer were covering for Joanna Sherman."
Levin Sawyer admitted to himself that if it had been him, he could never have been as meticulous as Sophia.
Sophia Shaw just smiled.
"We may only have three satellites left to launch, but a team can’t have bad apples. People like Howard Holloway and Xander Archer, who don’t put the mission first and whose loyalties are questionable, are not fit to remain."
The two continued their conversation as they got into the car.
Vincent Grant and Joel Hale stood on the spot where the car had just been parked.
"I can’t believe it. Miss Shaw really wasn’t using this as an excuse to settle a personal score," Joel Hale murmured.
He realized that he was only just beginning to truly understand the kind of person Sophia Shaw was.
After arriving home, Sophia Shaw immediately threw herself back into her work.
She had given the rest of the team the day off, but her own work never stopped.
Seeing how busy Sophia was, Ms. Archer took Bun out, not wanting to disturb her.
Just as she was deep in her work, the doorbell rang.
Sophia Shaw thought Ms. Archer had forgotten her keys, so she didn’t waste a second, rushing to open the door.
But standing at the door was a tall, imposing man.
"You?" The smile on Sophia Shaw’s face visibly vanished the moment she saw Vincent Grant.
Vincent Grant’s gaze fell upon her.
Sophia Shaw was much shorter than him. Her figure, slightly fuller now, wasn’t a detriment. In fact, it gave her a certain voluptuous beauty.
Her hair was casually clipped up, with a few strands escaping. A pen was tucked behind her ear.
He’d seen her gentle side and her decisive, resolute side, but this was the first time he’d ever seen her so disheveled and absorbed in her work.
Her disheveled state didn’t seem sloppy. Instead, it had a kind of cozy, domestic charm.
"Is there something I can help you with, President Grant?"
Sophia Shaw’s initial expression was cold, but her features softened slightly when she remembered they were now working together.
Still, she remained distant and formal.
Vincent Grant’s eyes landed on the notebook in her hands.
Since the notebook was related to Zenith, Sophia didn’t try to hide it. She presented it openly. "This is my proposed personnel restructuring for Zenith."
Vincent Grant took it and scanned the pages, his eyes flying across the lines.
The more he read, the deeper his brow furrowed. His eyes filled with profound doubt as he looked up at her. "Sophia, how do you know Zenith’s personnel so well?"
It was no wonder he was surprised. Sophia’s assignments were perfectly tailored to each person’s strengths.
The only people who knew them that well were him... and Joanna Sherman!
Sophia Shaw didn’t feel like explaining. She just smiled.
"If you see any issues, President Grant, feel free to voice them."
Since this was about work, she couldn’t very well leave him standing on the doorstep. She stepped aside to let him in.
Vincent Grant remained frozen in the doorway as a thought suddenly struck him. He blurted out, "Sophia, you... you’re the consultant who’s been helping us from the shadows? You’re ’cover’?"
When they had first tried to track down Cover, the trail led them to Lead Aerospace!
He hadn’t made the connection then, but now it hit him with sudden clarity—
Cover also knew every single engineer at Zenith like the back of their hand!
It was a question, but he already knew the answer.
A sharp pang hit Vincent Grant’s chest. He asked instinctively, "You... why did you help me?"
Sophia Shaw just looked at him, her expression unreadable, and said nothing.
In truth, no answer was needed.
A brilliant rocket scientist, helping him for neither fame nor fortune... what other reason could there be?
He remembered what was said before:
"She might have plotted against you to get back at the Sherman heiress, but her feelings for you were absolutely real."
"So you... you were really in love with me!"
Vincent Grant’s pupils trembled. Something inside his chest seemed to collapse.
"Sophia... I..."
For the first time in his life, he was at a loss for words. His throat felt tight, as if blocked, and he struggled to breathe.
He walked toward her, reaching out to touch her.
Sophia Shaw pulled back.
Her expression was once again cool and distant.
"President Grant, if you’re here to discuss work, you’re welcome."
"If this is about personal matters, then I’m sorry. I’m working, and I don’t have time to waste."
She drew a clear line. Her gaze was frigid, without a trace of any other emotion.
"Fine—"
Vincent Grant swallowed hard, forcing himself to gather his scattered emotions as quickly as possible.
"I’d like to hear your plans for the next phase of work. May I?"
He didn’t even realize it himself, but his voice carried a faint, pleading tone.
Just as Sophia Shaw and Vincent Grant were finishing their discussion, Ms. Archer returned with Bun.
Ms. Archer froze for a second when she saw Vincent Grant in the room.
Vincent Grant, who had been about to leave, stopped in his tracks and looked at Bun.
Bun, having just been out in the sun, had a chubby, rosy face that was cuter than an apple.
She was rubbing her eyes with her tiny fists, getting sleepy, and nuzzling her head against Ms. Archer’s shoulder.
Vincent Grant reached out instinctively. "Can I... hold her?"
Sophia Shaw took Bun from Ms. Archer’s arms. With business concluded, her tone reverted to its former iciness. "Bun needs to sleep. You should go, President Grant."
She turned and went into the room, leaving him with nothing but her back.
Ms. Archer felt a bit awkward but had no desire to sympathize with Vincent Grant. She turned and went into the kitchen.
By the time Sophia Shaw came back out, Vincent Grant was gone.
Ms. Archer set two freshly cooked dishes on the table and looked at Sophia. "What was that Mr. Grant doing here? He doesn’t want to get back together, does he?"
She wasn’t one to pry, but after seeing the look in Vincent Grant’s eyes, she couldn’t help but worry for Levin Sawyer.
’Sawyer has waited so many years for this chance. Don’t let that Grant fellow steal her away again.’
"There will be no getting back together," Sophia said. Her tone was as gentle as ever, but her words were decisive.
Ms. Archer had been with her long enough to know her personality.
Once she made up her mind, wild horses couldn’t drag her back.
Only then did Ms. Archer’s heart settle.
Not long after they finished eating, Bun woke up.
And just then, Levin Sawyer arrived.
He very naturally took the bowl of yam porridge from Ms. Archer and began feeding it to Bun, one spoonful at a time.
While she ate, Bun banged on her little highchair tray, babbling, "Ba... ba..." Ms. Archer was thrilled. "She’s talking! She’s calling you ’dada’!"
It was the first time in Levin Sawyer’s life anyone had ever called him "dada." He froze for a second.
It felt as if something incredibly sweet was melting in his chest, the feeling spreading all the way to his core.
The next moment, he instinctively leaned over and kissed Bun’s cheek. "My sweet girl!"
Ms. Archer watched him, blinking.
’Others might not know, but how could I not?’
’He comes over whenever he’s free to help watch and feed the baby. He’s been secretly teaching her to say ’dada’ every day.’
This was all done when Sophia was out, so she was completely unaware. Seeing how adept he was with the baby, she was a little surprised. "Levin, are you planning on getting married or something? You’re such a natural with children."
"I’m thinking about it," Levin Sawyer said ambiguously.
"Who’s the lucky girl who’s caught your eye? You’ll have to introduce me someday."
