Chapter 502: Chapter 331: Scheming and Deceit

[Hegemony Company Crisis Management Center No. 7]

Yang Fuchai was in a good mood today.

Or rather, ever since he left the Celestial Gate Patrol Station and was reassigned to the Crisis Management Center, he had been in a good mood every day.

In Hegemony Company, there’s really no place more rewarding than the Crisis Management Center.

Just think about it, you’re an ordinary person, without a blood code or great marksmanship.

But as long as you sit in the office, typing a few keys on the keyboard, you can mobilize dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of elite armed personnel to handle various crises in the jurisdiction.

Doesn’t it feel like playing a real-time strategy game?

If the crisis is resolved, you take the credit, and each piece is a highlight in your resume for future promotions.

If the crisis isn’t resolved, the blame goes to the armed forces you sent out; after all, they were just not up to the mark—being inept is the original sin.

As for you? Just don’t cause anything too outrageous, at most you might get a bonus deduction, bow at a ninety-degree angle in meetings, say a quick apology, and then you’re on to the next crisis.

And to be honest, though this job is called "crisis management," where’s the "crisis" these days, really?

It’s nothing more than some documents being stolen, some facility being blown up, someone being killed, or some forces stirring trouble.

These are just minor conflicts at most.

After all, there’s an understanding between the three major corporations that small skirmishes are fine, but no large-scale wars will break out between them.

Why fight a war for no reason? Holding hands and squeezing the lower-level people’s gold coins isn’t sweeter?

So don’t be fooled by the serious-sounding name "Crisis Management Center," the work here is actually quite relaxed, and what’s talked about most isn’t the work at hand but coffee and nightlife after work.

Tomorrow is a rest day, and as the director, Yang Fuchai doesn’t have to be on duty. He spent the whole night playing games in his office and only yawned and got ready to go home to sleep when it was almost dawn.

"Ring-ring." Just then, his phone rang.

He picked it up and saw the words [Stupid Former Leader] displayed on the screen.

"Hehe, it’s you again. New achievements! New situations! New requirements! New expectations... stupid stuff."

After cursing, he cleared his throat and answered the call, pretending to be respectful: "Oh, former leader, hello, hello, you’re still not resting at this hour?"

Xie Zongchang’s deep voice came through: "Fuchai, something happened at the Celestial Gate Patrol Station."

Yang Fuchai asked somewhat puzzled: "Hmm? What happened?"

Xie Zongchang: "Beasts in the Land of No Master made a move, launching a large-scale assault on the Celestial Gate Patrol Station not long ago. The defense walls have collapsed, and my men are still fighting the beasts at the Patrol Station."

Yang Fuchai froze, standing up abruptly. He instinctively looked out of the window and asked in shock, "No... this... do you mean the Celestial Gate Patrol Station was breached by the beasts?"

Xie Zongchang: "Yes."

Yang Fuchai widened his eyes and said, "This is a high-priority crisis. Hurry up and report this through the proper channels! I’ll activate the procedures on my end, why are you calling my personal phone?"

Xie Zongchang said deeply, "Fuchai, you should know that reporting this will cause a lot of trouble. Calling your personal phone, I wanted to ask you for a favor."

Realizing something was off, Yang Fuchai lowered his voice and asked, "What favor..."

Xie Zongchang: "Help me dispatch a fully-equipped Razor Brigade, with heavy weapons, to clear out the beasts at Celestial Gate and help me retake and rebuild the Patrol Station."

Hearing this, Yang Fuchai chuckled as if he had just heard a joke and responded irritably, "Former leader, don’t mess with me, abusing power is a serious offense!"

Xie Zongchang replied impatiently, "What do you mean by abusing power? Retaking the Patrol Station is a corporate affair! I’m handling the company’s business here!"

Yang Fuchai: "Well, then, just report through the proper channels, don’t just rely on a single fully-equipped Razor Brigade, I can send three or even five over."

Xie Zongchang’s voice grew louder: "Yang Fuchai! Do you civilized Hegemony Company people really have to play dumb with me? I just don’t get it, is this really that hard?!"

"You’re the director of the Crisis Management Center, just directly find the Razor Brigade, tell them it’s a confidential mission and not to ask questions."

"After they’ve dealt with the Patrol Station issue here, you can use your access to wipe the deployment records. Isn’t that it? Why make it so complicated?!"

Back when Yang Fuchai worked at the Celestial Gate Patrol Station, he had endured a lot from this former leader.

Now he finally made his way up and no longer had to put up with others.

During holidays and festivals, he would pretend to be polite with Xie Zongchang, make a call to extend greetings, and send some gifts, after all, they both worked in the same company, appearances had to be maintained.

But faced with such a major issue, Yang Fuchai absolutely refused to play the underling doing dirty work like before, outright rejecting: "That’s impossible! What if something goes wrong, am I supposed to get away with it?"

"If you want to report through the proper channels, do it; if not, then forget it, go ask God for luck."

Just as he was about to hang up, Xie Zongchang suddenly said, "Check your email."

A message popped up simultaneously on his phone, a new email from Xie Zongchang.

Yang Fuchai asked, confused, "What’s this?"

Xie Zongchang: "Just download the attachment and you’ll see."

Yang Fuchai frowned as he opened the email, unzipped the attachment, and when he opened the file and saw the contents, he stood there in shock.

Xie Zongchang’s sinister voice came through: "These reports were left by you during your tenure at the Celestial Gate Patrol Station. Relying on your power as the financial manager, you’ve embezzled 1.8 billion in kickbacks."
