Chapter 431: Chapter 294: Rampant Fury
During dinner time, the Edge canteen was packed with people.
Chu Nanyi had been in the medical room all afternoon and was basically "fixed" up.
The advantage of being a Prosthetic Implanter is this: as long as you’re not completely dead, with enough replacement parts and an experienced prosthetic doctor, any injury can be repaired.
Moreover, although Chu Nanyi seemed to be beaten badly in the morning, it was actually just flesh wounds. Swap out the broken parts, re-implant the synthetic skin, and the person is as good as new.
As he ate, Chu Nanyi suddenly slapped himself hard: "Dammit, I’m such an idiot!"
The mercenary next to him was startled and asked, "Brother Chu, what’s going on?"
Chu Nanyi looked pained and sighed like a salted fish: "To think even I, the love expert, would have a stupid day. How could I be so harsh to Sister Dong this morning..."
The mercenary said helplessly, "That’s nothing. You should know Sister Dong never holds grudges against her own people."
"The main issue is about Lucifer this morning. I feel Sister Dong can’t swallow that anger. I’m really worried she’ll make herself ill in her room."
"Sigh, I’ll go comfort her again." Chu Nanyi pulled out his phone, opened the chat software, and started a voice message in his private chat with Dongdong.
"Waaa, Sister Dong, I’m really sorry about this morning. I was in a rush and shouldn’t have been harsh to you. Look, it’s already mealtime. How about coming down and having dinner together? Today, the kitchen made caramel pudding, your favorite~"
As soon as he sent the voice message, Chu Nanyi saw a red exclamation mark.
[Message sent, but rejected by the recipient]
Chu Nanyi froze in shock and exclaimed, "OMG! Sister Dong has blocked me!"
The mercenary beside him couldn’t help but laugh, "It was just a fight this morning, was that really necessary?"
"Oh no, oh no... maybe Sister Dong is hurt and lost her self-esteem because of what I said..." Chu Nanyi hurriedly rifled through the mercenary’s pockets, "Lend me your phone, I’ll apologize to Sister Dong with your number."
Chu Nanyi took the mercenary’s phone and sent a long string of apology voice messages to Dongdong.
After sending, the red exclamation mark popped up again.
[Message sent, but rejected by the recipient]
Chu Nanyi’s expression froze: "You got blocked too?"
"Hmm?" The mercenary took back his phone, looked at the notification, and was bewildered, "What’s going on? I didn’t even do anything to Sister Dong."
Chu Nanyi’s pupils began to dilate. He suddenly stood up and shouted to everyone, "Everyone who has Dongdong as a friend, send her a message and check!"
Everyone grabbed their phones and started sending messages.
Soon, replies came in one by one:
"Oh no, I got blocked too!"
"Me too! What’s going on?!"
"Check the work group. She left the group!"
"It’s true! She left all the groups! What is she going to do?!"
Chu Nanyi sensed something was wrong and quickly left the canteen, racing up to the 88th floor.
He ran to Dongdong’s door and knocked hard: "Dongdong! Are you in there?!"
There was no response from inside the room.
As he continued knocking, Chu Nanyi suddenly heard some strange noises coming from KK’s room across the hall.
Chu Nanyi hurriedly knocked on KK’s door: "KK! Open up! I need to ask you something!"
Inside the room came continuous sounds of movement, but no one opened the door. There was also a faint "mm mm" sound.
Chu Nanyi quickly made a decision and shouted: "KK, I’m breaking down the door!"
He ejected a laser weapon from his palm, adjusted the output power, and melted the door lock.
Then, he burst through the door.
The room was a mess, papers scattered everywhere, with a company seal on the floor nearby.
KK was tied up with bed sheets, with a towel in his mouth, struggling desperately on the floor, looking at Chu Nanyi in terror and trying to shout.
Chu Nanyi rushed over to untie him and pulled the towel from KK’s mouth.
KK screamed before Chu Nanyi could even ask, "Dongdong! Dongdong went to get revenge on Lucifer alone!!!"
...
[Lakefront Business District, Hellhound Mercenary Corps Headquarters]
Several Hellhound Mercenaries were standing guard outside, tucking their hands inside the sleeves of their coats, cigarettes burning in their mouths.
In New Moon City, besides the indisputable leader like Scythe of Death, it’s hard to find a more relaxed mercenary corps than Hellhound.
Most mercenaries have to weigh the pros and cons carefully, always worrying about offending someone with every step they take.
Hellhound is different. As long as they don’t do anything too outrageous, the mercenaries do as they please—kick one house today, smash another tomorrow.
What? You’re not convinced?
If you’re not convinced, go find yourself a leader who’s an executive at Hegemony Company.
At this moment, a Hellhound Mercenary huffed smoke from his nose and laughed, "I heard our guys wrecked Edge Mansion this morning?"
His companion shook his leg and replied, "Yeah, trashed it badly. If I hadn’t been passed over by the leader, I’d have wanted a go myself."
The mercenary chuckled, "With the Hegemony Company uniform on, you can pretty much do whatever you want."
His companion arrogantly said, "Of course. We have big figures backing us. What’s Edge compared to that? That guy named Su just got lucky, or else how could he have won Rookie of the Year?"
The two chatted intermittently, passing the time during their dull night shift.
The mercenary yawned lazily, "It’s so boring, day in and day out without even a thief in sight. Can someone stir up some trouble, preferably come smash the place up, so I can have a chance to earn some credit."
His companion scoffed: "Smash the place? Come to Hellhound to smash the place? If anyone dares to smash our place today, I’ll eat my gun on the spot!"
As they talked, a taxi pulled up in front of the building.
A petite figure got out, a pink-haired girl carrying a large cloth bag filled with long items, and holding a shiny baseball bat, striding towards Hellhound Headquarters.
