Chapter 187: Chapter 139: 7 New Skills

After a quick breakfast, Lin Mo arrived at the City Lord’s Mansion to find Landon and his team already waiting.

"Please wait just a moment."

The guards at the gate of the City Lord’s Mansion were quite courteous. After all, even if Landon hadn’t already stated their business, one glance at their gear was enough to tell they were all skilled Adventurers.

Before long, an elderly man in formal attire approached. "Everyone, please follow me."

The group followed him into the City Lord’s Mansion and were led to a spacious hall.

The hall was lined with neatly dressed, armed guards. In the center was a large round table, surrounded by the city’s officials and nobles.

Besides their two teams, there were other Adventurers present as well. They seemed to be people who had provided support elsewhere and had also made excellent contributions.

Landon seemed to know all of them, and they exchanged greetings.

A few cast curious glances toward Lin Mo and offered greetings, to which he returned each one.

’These are some of the more powerful Adventurers in Silver Stream City. It wouldn’t hurt to get to know them and be on good terms.’

After a brief silence, a middle-aged woman at the round table slowly rose. "Welcome back, Adventurers, who have made such excellent contributions. During the recent wave of Goblin attacks, you all contributed outstandingly to the defense of Silver Stream City’s territory. The Lord City Lord is now preparing the investiture ceremony. We ask for your patience."

’They’re making this so formal...’

This was more formal than Lin Mo had expected. ’But on second thought, it makes sense. Even if "Honorary Third-class Baron" was the lowest possible title, it was a genuine noble title all the same. Of course there would be some procedure.’

A moment later, the person Lin Mo had met once before—the Lord of Silver Stream City and mother of Feney, Lady Bexilla Ravel—finally appeared before the crowd.

She wore a magnificent gown, her bearing graceful and dignified. She looked both beautiful and majestic.

"Brave Adventurers, I am so pleased you could be here..."

What followed was a series of very formal, very official pleasantries, giving Lin Mo a strange sense of déjà vu, as if he were listening to a speech from a school principal.

Fortunately, this preamble wasn’t very long. Soon enough, Lady Ravel concluded her speech.

"And now, I shall personally bestow upon you the ’Guardian’ medals. From this moment forward, you will be honorary nobles of the Kingdom. You shall enjoy the privileges befitting your status, and I hope you will all continue to strive to make even greater contributions to the Kingdom and its people."

As she finished speaking, an attendant brought forward a golden platter bearing several gleaming brass medals.

Beixila presented the medals one by one. When she reached Lin Mo, she gave him a wink, her eyes filled with praise.

’This genius Flora told me about certainly hasn’t disappointed. Not only has he taken excellent care of Feney, but his rate of growth is simply staggering!’

’When he first arrived in Silver Stream City, he was just a Level 1 Professional. It’s only been a short while, and even accounting for Shefilya’s help, when I saw his contribution report... I was stunned speechless for the longest time.’

’And the praise he received from the Maid who witnessed it all firsthand was just as high.’

’So high, in fact, that it surprised me. I never thought that child would affirm and praise someone so highly.’

Lin Mo accepted the medal. His experiences with the Lord of Roland Town and the Lawrence Clan had left him with a poor impression of the Kingdom’s nobility. However, just as Flora had said, there were kind and benevolent nobles who cared for the people. Lady Ravel was clearly one of them, and since she was the one awarding the medal, Lin Mo accepted it gladly.

The seated officials offered their applause and congratulations, and the festive atmosphere continued for some time...

"Alright, the investiture ceremony is concluded. The rest of you may return to your duties."

After speaking, Beixila turned to the Adventurers before her. "Adventurers, please come with me. The additional rewards I promised you are ready."

This included not only Lin Mo and the others who had just been decorated, but also other Adventurers whose contributions, while not as great, were still notable.

Although they hadn’t earned a medal, they were still eligible for the additional rewards promised by Lord Beixila.

The Adventurers followed her to a small, well-kept room. It looked as if it had once been used for storage but had been specially cleaned and organized. The room was lined with several large shelves displaying a variety of precious items.

First came those with lesser contributions. Judged by the contents of their reports, some received varying amounts of extra Gold Coins or Crystal Coins. Those with greater contributions received Excellent quality weapons and equipment, or some rather valuable Alchemy Potions.

When it was Landon’s turn, he chose an Excellent Level Wind Magic Scroll.

Of course, such a precious item wasn’t a gift, but a loan. It had to be returned within two years and could not be lent to others. Still, that was more than enough time for Landon to learn the Skill.

There were some other rewards as well. After receiving his, Landon waved to Lin Mo and took his leave.

Soon, only Lin Mo, Ali, and Lady Beixila remained in the room.

"It’s truly astonishing."

With no outsiders present, Lady Beixila seemed to relax considerably. "When Flora told me your talent might even surpass her own, I was a bit skeptical. Now, I see she wasn’t exaggerating in the slightest."
