Chapter 709: Chapter 709: Female Ghost?_1
Ye You remained uneasy, but Qin Sisi repeatedly assured him she would be okay, and promised to return as soon as possible, urging him to take time to recover.
Finally, Ye You reluctantly agreed, urging Qin Sisi to go and return early.
Qin Sisi bid farewell to Ye You, equipped herself with the essentials for visiting the cemetery, and left home. She took the bus to the station, then a long-distance coach back to her hometown.
The graves of Qin Sisi’s parents were in a field outside the village, a long way from where the villagers lived. After getting off the coach, she needed to walk some distance along a dirt road to reach them.
There had been a heavy rain in the afternoon of the previous day, so the road was a bit muddy. Unfortunately, she did not have Ye You’s Invisible Bubble for this trip, and she did not dare to use the Wings of Rainbow during the day. So she had to walk step by step along the muddy path towards the graveyard.
She had thought there would not be many people around, but before she reached the edge of the field, she was astonished to find there was a huge iron thing—an excavator— in the field, operated by a driver who was digging up something. There were also three or four men standing by watching.
Initially, Qin Sisi was puzzled. But as she got closer, it dawned on her that someone in the village must have died and the excavator was there to dig the graves.
Life had been extremely tough for Qin Sisi and her mother after her father’s death. She had no significant interaction with the villagers, and having gone to school outside of the village from a young age, she was quite estranged from her home. Hence, the news of the person’s death did not stir any emotions within her.
Birth, aging, sickness, and death are universal truths of life.
She made her way to her parents’ graves on her own, arranging the grave offerings she had brought with her.
The field was empty. The men by the excavator realized Qin Sisi was there. One of them even stretched out his arm to point at her and said something, making them all laugh.
Qin Sisi paid no attention to the men’s behaviour. She was engrossed in arranging the offerings, then lit the thin yellow paper with her fire magic, watching the flame rise gently, silently bidding farewell to her parents in her heart.
By the time the yellow paper had all burned, Qin Sisi’s eyes were red. She sniffed, picked up a stick from the side, and stirred the ashes of the burnt papers. She then stood up and bowed towards the graves.
Just then, she heard the sound of scattered footsteps behind her. Turning back, she saw the same men from by the excavator walking towards her.
Qin Sisi furrowed her brows, suppressing her grief, and watched the strangers warily.
One of them, grinning broadly, said, "Young lady, you’re visiting the graves alone?"
Coldly and crisply, Qin Sisi responded, "I am. Do you need something?"
In between sentences, the men had already her in the center, their lewd smiles and lustful gazes obvious.
Qin Sisi scanned the surroundings. Apart from these men, there was no one else around. The loud noise from the excavator meant even if she screamed for help, no one would hear.
The situation was reminiscent of the time when Wang Ji’an tried to assault her. Back then she felt like a lamb awaiting slaughter, her hands tied, and had that not been for the timely arrival of Ye You, there would have been no help.
Things were different now. Qin Sisi narrowed her eyes and the magic inside her started to gather in her hands.
Another man, a bit on the heavier side, rubbed his nose and lewdly said, "Cutie, there’s just us here. How about having some fun with us?"
Saying that, his greasy hand reached toward Qin Sisi’s chest.
Qin Sisi’s eyes flashed. Raising her palm, she gently traced in front of her, and the Solid as Golden Soup shield formed immediately in response.
The fat man’s hand was suddenly blocked, causing the tip of his fingers to hurt. Luckily, he wasn’t moving too fast. Otherwise, his hand might have fractured upon hitting the Solid as Golden Soup shield.
The fat man and the others froze, unsure of what had just happened.
Taking advantage of their momentary shock, Qin Sisi stepped back and focused her magic, thrusting forward with her right palm and unleashing the Water Binding Skill.
A light blue stream of water energy surged forth, transforming into numerous translucent water threads that bound the men.
With a slight force from Qin Sisi’s hands, the men clumsily stumbled into one another. No matter how they struggled, they were stuck.
"What’s going on? Why can’t I move?" One of the men who had been full of lustful bravado now panicked at the realization that something was wrong.
Watching as Qin Sisi silently moved her arms a few times, making them unable to move a muscle, the men were in disarray.
The more timid of them entirely lost their composure, looking at Qin Sisi and crying out incoherently, "A ghost, there’s a ghost..."
In the remote fields outside the sparsely populated village, a young woman visiting the grave alone, inexplicable special skills...
From these points of view, Qin Sisi did resemble a suspicious female ghost.
Hearing their terrified cries, Qin Sisi blinked. Could it be that, having been acquainted with so many ghosts, she had acquired their aura?
She coldly smirked and looked up. A few people were walking along the path on the edge of the field. One of them was wearing the customary hemp and white garments of mourning, probably a relative of the deceased, likely coming to see how the grave was coming along.
Qin Sisi didn’t want to create more trouble. But neither was she willing to just let them go. These men had intended to commit a crime in broad daylight. Had it been the old version of her or any other ordinary woman who had encountered them, they would have undoubtedly been harmed. They needed to be taught a lesson.
Seeing that the group hadn’t gotten near yet, she raised her palms, brought them closer, and directed a fire bomb towards the fat man who was the first to try to lay his hands on her.
The fireball, the size of a human head, whizzed towards the fat man and hit him in the belly. The man screamed in pain as the clothes on his body instantly caught fire, the flames quickly spreading to the others huddled close to him—screams rang out.
The group who had just reached the edge of the field, seeing something was wrong, immediately ran towards them.
Qin Sisi’s petite figure was hidden behind the men and remained unnoticed. As they hadn’t approached yet, she momentarily disappeared into the ground.
Seeing this, the men who were already scared witless with the fire were even more spooked, their bodies breaking out into shivers from fear. Even though it was peak summer, and they had a blazing fire on their bodies, they felt a chill deep in their hearts. They were certain they had seen a ghost in broad daylight.
The group behind them caught up and helped put out the fire on their bodies after some chaotic efforts.
Still, there was no hint of relief in the faces of those men, surviving a disaster. Instead, they continued to huddle close in fear, shivering. For a considerable time after that, they remained deeply afraid, managing to get through the day but unable to spend the night alone. They dared not come near the fields again.
