Chapter 678: Chapter 678: Dark under the Light - 1

Upon seeing how fatigued Lin Shan appeared, Qin Sisi felt at a loss. However, she merely attributed it to Lin Shan’s exhaustion and didn’t think too much of it. After her breakfast and tidying up, she returned to her room to continue practicing her magic skills.

By mid-morning, concerned for Lin Shan, Qin Sisi brought her a glass of water and went to check on her.

There was no response when she knocked on the door, so Qin Sisi entered the bedroom, finding Lin Shan lying face-up on the bed, her eyes firmly closed.

Qin Sisi approached the bed and called Lin Shan’s name worriedly several times before Lin Shan slowly opened her eyes.

Upon seeing Qin Sisi, Lin Shan managed to muster a faint smile, sat up to take the water from Qin Sisi, drank it and then whispered in a hoarse voice, "Sisi, I want to rest a bit. Don’t bother waking me for lunch."

"That’s out of the question," Qin Sisi frowned, "You need to eat properly, especially when you’re sick!"

Lin Shan responded weakly, "I’m really tired, maybe I just need some rest. Let me sleep for a while."

Feeling helpless, Qin Sisi aided Lin Shan to lie back down and let her continue sleeping. She then tread lightly back out of the room.

Once back in her room, Qin Sisi discussed Lin Shan’s condition with Ye You. He too didn’t overthink it, simply saying to let Lin Shan rest up and if necessary, take her to the hospital the next day.

With no other options, Qin Sisi could only hope that Lin Shan would recover after getting some proper rest.

At noon Qin Sisi recalled Lin Shan’s words and did not disturb her during lunch.

However, by afternoon, with no signs of activity from Lin Shan’s room, Qin Sisi became increasingly worried and couldn’t help but go in and check up on Lin Shan.

Lin Shan was still lying flat on the bed, covered with a thin quilt, her face frighteningly pale, her eyesockets sunken in, a clear sign of illness.

Feeling quite unsettled, Qin Sisi called Lin Shan’s name several times again, but Lin Shan kept her eyes shut, showing no response.

Getting anxious, Qin Sisi gently pushed Lin Shan a few times, but with no response, panic started to rise within her.

When her gaze fell on Lin Shan’s face again, she suddenly realized that Lin Shan’s condition seemed to resemble a case of ghost possession.

Qin Sisi took a moment to adjust, then hurried to the door of the guest room, loudly calling, "Xiao Hei, come quickly!"

Ye You heard the urgency in Qin Sisi’s voice from his room and immediately leapt from the bed, rushing over at full speed.

Upon seeing Xiao Hei, Qin Sisi felt somewhat relieved. She urgently said, "Take a look at Lin Shan, I think something’s off about her."

Ye You observed Qin Sisi’s agitation and confusion, and walked into the guest room in confusion. He jumped onto the bed and looked down at Lin Shan, a sudden chill running through his heart.

"How is she?" Qin Sisi anxiously asked.

Ye You looked at Qin Sisi and solemnly replied, "It’s a ghost possession."

"As I thought." Qin Sisi murmured to herself, quite annoyed.

She should’ve noticed earlier, had someone asked her to check on someone, the symptoms clearly indicated a ghost possession. Lin Shan had been around her all these days, and yet she hadn’t noticed at all.

Certain things become more elusive the closer they are, as the saying goes, "black under the lamp. It’s often the things happening right under our nose that get overlooked.

Ye You asked curiously, "Wasn’t she perfectly fine when she just returned the day before yesterday? How did she attract unclean things?"

Qin Sisi ran through Lin Shan’s activities of the last two days.

Lin Shan seemed vibrant and normal when they met on the first day.

The second day, she went to the agency to sign a contract, then to her elder sister’s old house to collect some stuff. Although tired when she returned, her condition still seemed manageable. It was only from today that things took a turn for the worse.

"Did something happen last night?" Qin Sisi voiced her concern.

Ye You pondered for a moment, then said, "Our home is certainly clear, she most likely brought something unclean back when she returned yesterday."

"What kind of ’something’?" Qin Sisi asked anxiously.

Puzzled, Ye You replied, "I’m not sure."

He circled Lin Shan once, and finally, his gaze landed on the ancient silver bracelet she wore on her left wrist.

Leaning in, Ye You inspected the bracelet and asked Qin Sisi, "Did she have this bracelet on when you saw her the day before yesterday?"

Qin Sisi stared at the silver bracelet and pondered, "When we were having dinner together, I remember she didn’t have any jewelry on her."

There was a pause before Qin Sisi asked, "Do you think there’s an issue with the bracelet?"

Ye You nodded slightly, replying, "There might be, but we can’t handle it now. We have to wait until evening."

Qin Sisi looked down at the bracelet and suggested, "Since there is an issue with the bracelet, let’s take it off first!"

Qin Sisi lifted Lin Shan’s wrist, attempting to remove the silver bracelet, but to her surprise, she was unable to take it off.

Seeing this, Ye You intervened, "Leave it, let her keep it on for now. I’m curious as to what this thing is trying to do."

"But..." Qin Sisi looked at Lin Shan worryingly.

Softening his tone, Ye You reassured, "Sisi, don’t worry, Lin Shan is your best friend, I won’t let anything happen to her."

Feeling comforted by Ye You’s compassionate and firm gaze, Qin Sisi’s anxiety and worries receded a bit. She knew that with Ye You here, Lin Shan would be okay.

She nodded, and with a serious expression, told Ye You, "I’m counting on you then."

Ye You jumped onto Qin Sisi’s shoulder, extended his paw to fondle her hair, and sighed, "There’s no need for formalities between us."

Qin Sisi lowered her gaze, falling silent for a moment before saying, "You should get some rest, I’ll stay here with her."

Ye You glanced at the bright light outside the window, then urged, "There’s still some time till nightfall. Waiting here won’t help, you should seize the opportunity to practice your magic and rest up. This way, you’ll possess better abilities and energy to handle the ghost that’s possessing Lin Shan tonight."

Qin Sisi knew Ye You’s advice made sense, but she couldn’t bear the thought of leaving Lin Shan all alone after learning about her situation.

In the end, Qin Sisi stayed in the guest room, practicing her magic for a few hours. She ate something with Ye You, and then spread out a quilt on the floor to rest and accompany Lin Shan.

As Qin Sisi stayed beside Lin Shan, Ye You stayed by Qin Sisi’s side.

Time passed slowly, drop by drop, and darkness gradually fell.

Even without setting an alarm, Qin Sisi woke up right on time at eleven at night, but her sleep was anything but peaceful.

Seeing that it was the middle of the night, Qin Sisi went to the bedside, gently pushed Lin Shan’s arm and called her name, "Shan Shan, wake up. Shan Shan, can you hear me? Shan Shan, please open your eyes and look at me... "
