Chapter 586: 586

"Can we?" Lu Xi looked surprised and elated.

Qin Sisi nodded vigorously, then turned to look at Ye You, who gave another "meow".

Qin Sisi told Lu Xi, "Close your eyes."

Lu Xi did as she was asked and closed her eyes.

Ye You raised her paw, and a large, yet faint, light-blue glow emerged, enveloping Lu Xi’s entire body.

The light then suddenly compressed into a thin ray that shot into Zhou Hai’s forehead.

On a verdant field of grass, Lu Xi, dressed in a white strapless wedding gown, gracefully waved to Zhou Hai in the distance with a radiant smile.

Zhou Hai appeared shocked and incredulous, standing still for a moment before starting to run towards her.

His eyes were originally red-rimmed, but seeing Lu Xi’s radiant smile, his face brightened alongside her.

As Lu Xi’s silhouette grew clearer and he was about to embrace her, she suddenly let out a giggle that sounded like silver bells and began to run ahead.

After pausing for two seconds, Zhou Hai hurriedly continued chasing after her and dove forward, holding Lu Xi close as they fell on the soft grassy field.

"Qian Qian, don’t go, don’t leave me," Zhou Hai held Lu Xi tightly, feeling his heart tremble.

Lu Xi responded with silence, nudging her head gently inside Zhou Hai’s arms.

Fearful of not getting an answer, Zhou Hai reached out and lifted Lu Xi’s chin, forcing her to look at him: "Qian Qian, promise me you won’t leave, stay."

Lu Xi responded with a tender smile but slowly shook her head, cupping Zhou Hai’s cheeks with her hands. She sent a light kiss to the tip of his nose, with her palm laying against his chest.

"Fool, don’t talk like that, I’m always with you!

I reside within your heart and will never leave. If you’re happy, I’m happy, if you’re sad, I am too. So don’t be so sad, look, I’m right here. I’ll stay by your side as long as you wish."

Zhou Hai stared at Lu Xi’s softly smiling face. His sadness swelled infinitely, and he couldn’t help but tightly hold her close.

Lu Xi trembled slightly due to the emotional disturbance, her body tensing nervously.

Zhou Hai had never really touched her before. At first, she had thought it meant she wasn’t attractive enough to him, only later realizing it was out of his respect and cherishing of her.

The warm, joyous feelings agitated Zhou Hai, who already bore tear stains on his face. After enduring a bone-deep agony all day, he never thought he could have Lu Xi so vividly, so completely, again at night.

He took off his coat and covered Lu Xi with it, tightly holding her in his arms.

After a long while, Zhou Hai once again held Lu Xi’s face, earnestly asking, "Tell me, who stabbed you? Did you see them?"

Lu Xi shook her head, "I didn’t see. Someone suddenly covered my mouth, and then I felt a chill on my back. Instantly, I lost all my strength and seemed to lose all sense of sight and sound. Then, you came along."

Zhou Hai held Lu Xi tightly, his palm covering her stabbed chest area, which was now devoid of any beating sensation, only icy coldness remained.

"I’m sorry, Qian Qian. It’s all my fault for not protecting you properly."

Lu Xi shook her head, placing a cool finger against Zhou Hai’s lips, "There are many things beyond our control. Promise me that you’ll take good care of yourself. There are many people who need you. What will they do if you fall?"

Zhou Hai said no more; he would fulfill any promise to Lu Xi.

Zhou Hai clung tightly to Lu Xi while watching the sun set and eventually closed his eyes.

When Zhou Hai’s consciousness began to blur, Lu Xi gently slipped out of his arms, covered him with his coat, put back on her white wedding dress, and then, with a shimmering figure forming, she drifted away from Zhou Hai’s dream.

Lu Xi’s spirit returned to Zhou Hai’s bedroom, took one last lingering look at her beloved, and walked out with a resolute heart.

Qin Sisi was waiting for her in the living room. As she saw Lu Xi come out, she looked at her and tried to ask something.

Lu Xi made a silencing gesture, stepped forward, and whispered to Qin Sisi, "Let’s go."

Qin Sisi nodded, took Lu Xi’s hand, and went back to her own residence.

Having witnessed the deep love between Lu Xi and Zhou Hai, Qin Sisi paused for a moment before asking, "In the next life, would you want to reunite with Zhou Hai?"

Lu Xi looked incredulous at Qin Sisi, "Are you serious? Can you do that?"

"If you’re willing," came Qin Sisi’s clear reply.

Of course, Lu Xi was willing. The fairy tale of her love halted at the moment she put on her wedding dress, leaving a regret she could not mend. She absolutely wished she could have another chance to restart this budding love that never blossomed.

For three consecutive nights, Lu Xi visited Zhou Hai in his dreams.

Lu Xi never forgot her purpose; she constantly urged Zhou Hai to take care of himself, to which he promised over and over again.

On the third night, Lu Xi nestled in Zhou Hai’s arms, gently yet firmly saying, "You must fulfill your promise. That way, we can still be together in the next life. If you dare to do something foolish, I’ll never forgive you."

"I promise, I’ll do anything," Zhou Hai answered quickly, holding Lu Xi even tighter.

When Lu Xi’s spirit left Zhou Hai’s dream once again, she bent down, kissed Zhou Hai who was still asleep, and murmured, "This is truly my farewell. Goodbye, Zhou Hai, I love you."

Lu Xi entered the living room and told the waiting Qin Sisi, "Thank you for your help these days. Seeing him so much stable, I’m more assured. Now, I’m willing to offer you the soul power."

Qin Sisi nodded, thought for a moment, and asked, "Have they found the person who killed you?"

Lu Xi shook her head, "The murderer is crafty and hasn’t left any significant clues. It’s hard to investigate."

"Would you like me to try?" Qin Sisi wanted to help Lu Xi find the awful murderer. Perhaps Ye You’s magic could discover more clues.

Lu Xi hesitated for a moment, then finally shook her head, "Let’s let Zhou Hai complete this task. I trust that he’s capable. It’s just a matter of time.

Also, having this task to focus on will make his days easier. Given that he will have moved past the most painful moments by the time the truth is revealed and the criminal caught, he won’t be distraught by the sudden loss of something to focus on."
