Chapter 1295: Chapter 1295: Handsome Merman
Although they narrowly escaped, Ye You and Qin Sisi were both still shaken. The submarine world was mysterious and magnificent, but it was full of unknown dangers. They had just arrived and already faced such a fierce chase. The journey ahead might be even more perilous, and they had to be cautious at every turn.
After resting for a short while, they continued on their way. They were now only on the edge of the No Delusion Deep Sea, with a long way to go to reach the central region.
This time, Ye You learned his lesson and stopped provoking any plants or animals they encountered. Even if they were being watched, they would just take a detour and swim away from another direction, trying to avoid conflicts as much as possible.
This way, although their progress was slower, it was quite safe, and there were no more incidents of being chased by plants or animals.
Over time, they learned a lot about the submarine world. Qin Sisi used to think that the seafloor would be similar to the sea surface—flat and endless. However, that wasn’t the case.
In the vast and astonishing sea floor, much like the land, there were various terrains such as plains, plateaus, peaks, and basins, and these were even more expansive and spectacular than the land counterparts.
However, the No Delusion Deep Sea was so vast that despite traveling for several months, they still found themselves amidst the same repetitive sea scenery, without sight of the legendary palatial splendor or encountering the Deity Guardians mentioned by Master Yipiao.
The scenery remained enchanting and captivating, yet their mood gradually began to grow anxious.
One day, they came across a sunken ship. The ship was enormous, about a kilometer long, with its body severely corroded, covered with silt and seaweed, yet its once majestic appearance could still be vaguely discerned.
From a distance, it seemed like a giant, once commanding wind and clouds, had finally lost its life and soul to time. All that remained was its ancient, weathered shell, slowly disappearing in the seawater, helplessly, prompting a chilling awe.
Qin Sisi and Ye You paused in front of the shipwreck, silently gazing at this giant vessel, whose years of sinking were unknown. They felt both moved and regretful.
As they were about to leave, a melodious song suddenly streamed from the ship, causing them to halt. From each other’s eyes, they saw the incredulity mirrored.
The underwater world, though bustling with countless life forms, had never presented them with a single fish capable of singing. At most, they emitted mild calls when frightened.
After listening carefully for a moment, they were even more astonished. The singing seemed remarkably like a human voice, slow and melodious, imparting a sense of sadness.
Ye You and Qin Sisi exchanged a glance, nodding gently, and then silently approached the shipwreck. They hadn’t noticed that there were no other creatures around the shipwreck.
The direction of the singing was at the very top of the ship. The two swam quietly upwards, rusty railings sliding past them.
Finally, they saw the figure sitting atop the shipwreck, their eyes widening immensely.
It was a...mermaid!?
After the initial shock, both Qin Sisi and Ye You scrutinized the singing mermaid. He was male, with a bare upper body and a deep blue tail, the scales glinting faintly in the dim underwater light.
He was handsome, with sharp features, a high bridge of the nose, and his mouth opened gracefully, emitting a beautiful yet sorrowful song. His eyes were closed, seemingly immersed in his own singing.
As Qin Sisi listened to his melancholic song and watched his melancholic expression, she suddenly had a feeling: he was longing, longing for someone, a certain feeling, a past event, or a dream.
"Let’s go!" Ye You whispered softly in Qin Sisi’s ear.
The Guardians were the Deities, not mermaids. This mermaid they saw was certainly not who they were looking for, so there was no need to waste time here. Moreover, Qin Sisi’s focused gaze on the quite good-looking male mermaid made Ye You feel a bit uncomfortable.
Qin Sisi also understood that this mermaid was just another sight on their journey, fundamentally no different from other fish, and nodded, turning to leave.
At that moment, for some unknown reason, a corroded, deformed iron box suddenly fell from the top of the shipwreck, landing right at Qin Sisi’s feet.
With a clang, Qin Sisi, Ye You, and the singing mermaid on the ship were all startled.
"Who’s there?" the mermaid stopped his song and asked loudly.
Qin Sisi and Ye You exchanged another surprised glance, both pondering the same question: He could actually speak?!
A slight sound of water ensued, and the handsome merman appeared before Qin Sisi and Ye You. Staring at these two peculiar creatures with cat heads and fish tails, the merman’s face showed a surprised expression as he asked again, "What kind of fish are you? I’ve never seen your kind before."
Ye You remained silent for a moment before replying, "We are, catfish."
Qin Sisi couldn’t help but want to laugh, her little paw gently squeezing Ye You’s.
Ye You glanced at her calmly, his eyes expressing nothing.
The merman uttered an "Oh," saying to himself, "I thought I knew all the fish in the No Delusion Deep Sea, but it seems I don’t."
Ye You and Qin Sisi responded with silence. They had no idea about the speaking mermaid’s background, so they dared not engage too much with him.
Just as the merman was about to say more, suddenly his expression changed. He stared behind Qin Sisi and shouted, "Watch out!"
Ye You, without a second thought, yanked Qin Sisi forward fiercely before swiftly swimming sideways and turning around, finally seeing the enormous danger that had lingered behind them.
It was a peculiar fish, with a flat, disk-shaped body and a long, hard spike on its tail, its entire form jet-black, its eyes slightly bulging, glaring wickedly at the three in front of it.
The merman’s face contorted in shock, exclaiming, "It’s a devilfish! We must leave quickly; its sting is poisonous."
While saying this, he swung his massive tail, swiftly swimming outside the shipwreck. Ye You and Qin Sisi, seeing this, pressed for answers no longer, quickly following behind him to swim away from the shipwreck.
Unexpectedly, the ancient shipwreck had long turned into the devilfish’s territory. They swam just a few dozen meters before being surrounded by countless devilfish emerging from various parts of the shipwreck.
Qin Sisi’s breathing grew a bit rapid. After many days of peace, danger had finally resurfaced.
These devilfish truly lived up to their name. With their jet-black color and bizarre appearance, they seemed just like a horde of devils from hell.
