In the following days, while she waited for a response from the private detective agency, Qin Sisi spent all her time aside from meals and sleep practicing fire magic. Her success rate improved steadily and by the third day, she was able to perform it successfully eighty percent of the time.
On the fourth night, the detective agency finally provided some information. After paying the remaining half of the fee, Qin Sisi finally received the details regarding Shi Yan.
The investigation report showed: Shi Yan was a thirty-five-year-old man who worked as the vice president of a company in G City. He came from a modest background and started in the company as an ordinary employee. Ten years ago, Shi Yan married the boss’s daughter and saw his career take off. He steadily rose through the ranks to the top tier of the company.
However, for an unknown reason, Shi Yan’s wife had never given birth to a child. Shi Yan primarily relied on his wife’s family for his career and showed no signs of resentment. In the recent two years, Shi Yan’s father-in-law’s health had deteriorated, and much of the company’s operations were entrusted to Shi Yan. As a result, Shi Yan’s power within the company grew.
The investigation also revealed that Shi Yan kept a mistress in the outskirts of G City and, shockingly, the woman appeared to be pregnant. Shi Yan’s wife and her family were apparently oblivious to this affair.
Having read the report, Qin Sisi fell into deep thought.
Bai Xue died ten years ago, around the same time that Shi Yan married his boss’s daughter. It would make no sense if he had begun a love affair and got married after Bai Xue’s death. This seemed to indicate that everything had been premeditated.
Qin Sisi consulted with Ye You and released Bai Xue’s ghost to let her look at the information. After all, it was Bai Xue that plotted revenge and knew Shi Yan better.
Bai Xue was both shocked and infuriated upon reading the report. Her beautiful face twisted: "I understand now, I finally understand it all, haha, hahaha!"
Bai Xue suddenly burst into an eerie thunderous laughter, which sounded particularly strange in the silent night.
When the laughter stopped, Bai Xue’s demeanor seemed somewhat vacant: "The boss’s daughter? Four years of love don’t hold up to a few days of acquaintance with the woman, all because she’s the boss’s daughter. How ludicrous! And I didn’t even want to break up..."
Looking at the almost frantic Bai Xue, Qin Sisi couldn’t help but sigh deeply. Pointing to a photograph in the dossier, she asked Bai Xue, "Take a good look, Bai Xue. Is this him?"
Bai Xue gave the image a single glance before grinding her teeth and responding, "It’s him. I’d recognize him even as ash."
Bai Xue’s gaze gradually shifted to the window as she declared piece by piece, "Shi Yan, just you wait. I’ll make you pay."
When dawn arrived, Qin Sisi went to the train station to purchase a ticket to G City. The local city had no high-speed rail connection, so she could only take a regular train. The journey would take more than a dozen hours and would arrive at night.
Once she returned to the hotel, Qin Sisi continued practicing fire magic. Uninterrupted practice over the last few days had greatly improved her usage of fire magic.
In the afternoon, Qin Sisi began packing. Looking at Ye You’s small form, she was somewhat concerned, "I’m afraid you’ll have to endure staying in my clothes for over a dozen hours."
Ye You blinked and said, "I just remembered something, I can hide in the bag."
Hiding in Qin Sisi’s clothes would be torturous for both of them.
Qin Sisi shook her head saying, "It won’t work. The luggage has to go through a scanning conveyer belt, they’ll discover you."
Ye You replied, "I’ve thought it over. The scanner they use should be temperature sensitive. I can use magic to wrap myself up and prevent my body temperature from leaking. There shouldn’t be any problems."
Qin Sisi was still somewhat doubtful, "Will that really work?"
Ye You responded, "Let’s give it a try. If it doesn’t work, we can come back and try again tomorrow."
After thinking, Qin Sisi agreed to Ye You’s plan.
By evening, Qin Sisi had checked out from the hotel, put Ye You into her backpack, and took a taxi to the train station.
As she placed the backpack on the scanner, Qin Sisi’s heart was raced with unease.
Fortunately, the backpack made it through unimpeded.
Qin Sisi heaved a sigh of relief, picked up her bag and boarded the train.
After a bumpy journey of more than a dozen hours, Qin Sisi and Ye You finally arrived in the bustling G City.
Exiting the bustling train station led to a vast square that covered a large area.
Standing at the entrance of the station and looking at the bustling square, Qin Sisi suddenly felt incredibly small within the grandeur of life.
After a moment of deep reflection, Qin Sisi took a taxi to a chain hotel, where she rented a room for rest.
The long journey was incredibly exhausting, so after releasing Ye You, Qin Sisi took a bath and immediately went to bed.
When she woke up, it was already late in the night.
Qin Sisi had a brief conversation with Ye You before releasing Bai Xue’s ghost to discuss their next move.
Bai Xue contemplated for a moment, then asked, "Do you have anything that can allow me to appear under sunlight in human form?"
Frowning, Qin Sisi asked, "Do you want to approach him as a human?"
"Yes, I must personally take action, just like how he personally pushed me onto the train tracks." Bai Xue replied firmly, a bloody glint of joy evident in her beautiful eyes.
"Are you not afraid of him recognizing you?" Qin Sisi asked.
Bai Xue gave a wry smile, "Bai Xue is already dead. I would just be a young woman who happens to look like Bai Xue."
Qin Sisi thought for a moment before replying, "Why must you go through such troubles? There are simpler ways..."
For instance, she could do as Tan Ke had done and drain him while he slept. However, this method would take longer to execute.
Bai Xue shook her head, stating resolutely, "I don’t just want his life, I want him ruined and disgraced. He must pay twice over for what he owes me in this life."
Bai Xue’s expression was harsh, a thick aura of resentment radiating off her. Even the bright light seemed to dim somewhat in her presence.
Qin Sisi shivered. Surely, a fierce ghost’s revenge would be ruthless and relentless.
Qin Sisi wrestled with her commitment to aiding Bai Xue’s revenge. Was it the right thing to do?
Then, she recalled the words Master Hong Bo had told her when he left: "Blessings and disasters have no door, only summons from the self. Rewards for good and for evil, follow as a shadow does the body."
The evil deeds done ten years ago were not unanswered, the time simply had not yet come.
When Bai Xue’s unyielding ghost returned to this bustling city, perhaps, the time had arrived.
Qin Sisi looked at Ye You. For Bai Xue to temporarily revert to a human form, she would definitely need Ye You’s help.
