Chapter 99: Chapter 86: Fist Faster Than a Gun
BANG!!
A muffled sound suddenly came from a three-story building not far away. The heavy report of a sniper rifle was like a sledgehammer blow, striking straight into people’s hearts.
The crowd froze for a moment at the sight. Even Sandstorm Priestess Mo Li paused, her gaze shifting in that direction.
It seemed someone had found the sniper’s hiding spot and had charged into the building with brute force, rushing in for the kill.
The sniper’s retaliatory shots rang out—BANG! BANG!—as if trying to tear through flesh and blood and kill the figure on the spot.
For a brief moment, everyone was distracted.
And in that very instant.
WHUMMM!!
The air vibrated.
The night sky in the distance was suddenly torn apart as a floating car, spewing red tail flames, sped toward them.
The next instant.
WHOOSH!!
A sound that pierced the eardrums split the air. Some small, sharp object shot through the sky, arriving at the square even before the car, heading straight for Mo Li.
Her eyes narrowed. The yellow sand in front of her swirled together frantically, forming a solid, massive wall.
THUD!!
A muffled explosion erupted, like a cannonball slamming into the earth.
Yellow sand sprayed outwards as if from a blast.
A ring of air pressure turned into a gale, spreading violently and kicking up the sand on the ground. The crowd, their faces a mixture of shock and suspicion, all raised their hands to shield their faces.
"Mo Li!"
A furious roar, almost like a lion’s, echoed through the night, shaking more than half of Black Water Town.
The floating car lowered its altitude and swept over the square. At some point, a figure had leaped out, landing on the rooftop of a nearby building.
A whitish-yellow Martial Arts Flame seemed to erupt from his body, his piercing, murderous gaze sweeping across the entire scene.
Then, with a THUD.
He ignored the eight- or nine-meter height of the building and dove down again, charging toward the powerful Sandstorm Priestess.
"Get the hell out of my way!!"
...
BANG!!
「At the same time.」
The dull report of the gun shook the soul. Lu Chao, who had charged into a third-floor room, wore a murderous expression as he suddenly accelerated.
BAM!!
The sniper bullet that grazed past his shoulder pierced the old wooden door behind him, blasting a huge hole in it.
Amidst the flying splinters, Lu Chao didn’t stop, continuing his charge forward.
Even though the night was pitch-black and his vision was obstructed.
He still relied on his powerful senses and the aid of the moonlight to lock onto the warlord sniper standing by the balcony window at the end of his line of sight.
The man seemed to be wearing special night-vision goggles. His rifle was already turned, resting on the half-open windowsill, clearly having heard Lu Chao coming up the stairs ahead of time.
They were only seven or eight meters apart. Between them was just the hallway from the door to the living room balcony, with no obstacles besides an old wooden cabinet and a sofa.
Several people from Black Water Town could also be seen lying dead on the living room floor in pools of blood.
CLICK!
The next instant, a crisp sound rang out as the bolt was worked and the hammer cocked.
A cold smirk touched the man’s lips. He made no move to dodge, instead pulling the trigger again.
BANG!!
The gunshot reverberated, like a massive stone crashing to the ground, striking fear into the heart.
However, SWISH!
Lu Chao sidestepped to the left, putting a foot of distance between himself and his original position.
THUMP!!
The highly penetrative sniper round hit the concrete wall, blasting out a cloud of debris.
Lu Chao’s feet still didn’t stop. He resumed his straight-line advance, neither fast nor slow, rapidly closing in on the balcony.
Witnessing this, the man still didn’t retreat.
Instead, his face was expressionless as he worked the bolt and pulled the trigger again.
BANG!!
Another bullet flew, but its trajectory was different from before.
Instead, it pierced through the sofa and the old wooden cabinet, aiming to obscure Lu Chao’s vision and tear into his abdomen.
Exploding splinters and stuffing flew everywhere, and the sharp sound of the bullet cutting through the air was incredibly fast.
WHOOSH!
Yet, in that very instant.
Lu Chao stepped diagonally to the right, once again dodging the man’s fatal shot.
Both men seemed supremely confident in their own skills. One believed the weapon in his hands was enough to kill any enemy, while the other was certain that once he was close enough, he could eliminate any threat.
CLICK!
Instantly, there was another sound of a bolt being worked and a round being chambered.
But just as the sniper was about to pull the trigger again...
"Hm?"
His eyes narrowed. Lu Chao’s figure had suddenly vanished from his sight.
A strange chill rose in his heart. He acted decisively, taking a sharp step backward.
THUD!!
A fist that could shatter stone came crashing in from the right.
Lu Chao had, at some point, ducked low and lunged forward, using the momentum to close the distance and reach the balcony.
The narrow space instantly became cramped. The pale, ash-colored fist hit nothing but air, missing its target.
Lu Chao’s body stiffened for a moment. The final half-meter between them became a chasm of life and death, seemingly impossible to cross.
"You’re too green."
The warlord sniper gave a cold smirk. His right hand had, at some point, drawn the pistol from his waist. He aimed it upward at an angle, targeting Lu Chao’s unprotected jaw.
He was just about to pull the trigger.
SWOOSH!!
A steel nail shot through the air and pierced straight through his right wrist.
Blood sprayed. The warlord sniper let out a muffled grunt of pain, his face turning pale. His right hand fell limp, and the pistol dropped to the floor.
With a CLATTER.
Lu Chao seized the opportunity and stepped forward. His left hand shot out like a dragon’s claw and grabbed the man’s neck.
"What... was that you just said?"
He stared directly into the man’s eyes, hidden behind the night-vision goggles, his expression cold as he hoisted him up like a rag doll.
The warlord sniper’s mouth hung slightly open, veins pulsing on his face as he fought back the pain. His left hand stealthily reached for another pistol behind his back.
"I..."
CRACK!
Lu Chao’s hand tightened, fracturing the man’s neck.
His head, no longer supported, lolled to one side. The professional-grade sniper was dead, his body slowly growing cold.
’A fighter who’s also an expert with firearms, huh.’
