Chapter 896: Chapter 675: Goods Are Worth the Price
Three days later, Long Yi appeared in the Sanctuary Empire. He had been there for less than an hour when he was greeted by the Imperial Guard, led by none other than the short statured prince from the other day, Prince Saint Linde from the Sanctuary Empire.
"Welcome to your arrival, Mr. Long Yi!"
Prince Saint Linde said excitedly.
"Yes, I have come. Please let me meet your father," Long Yi said.
"You really can’t be fooled, Mr. Long Yi. My name is Saint Linde. Please follow me," he replied.
Saint Linde led Long Yi onto a speedboat. The specially modified boat had excellent velocity. On the way there, Prince Saint Linde seemed normal enough, though the imperial guards were somewhat tense. After all, Long Yi’s fierce reputation was well known, and he was said to be a man who did not reason with others easily. Should he suddenly attack and kill Prince Saint Linde, they might not be able to stop him.
However, Long Yi spent the journey resting with his eyes closed, not uttering a word, looking relaxed.
Finally, the speedboat arrived at the Imperial Palace. As they stepped off the craft, waiting to greet them was none other than Emperor Saint Danze of the Sanctuary Empire himself.
"Mr. Long Yi, welcome to the Sanctuary Empire!"
Emperor Saint Danze’s face was overflowing with a warm smile.
"I have felt the sincerity in your invitation. I think you will not disappoint me again," Long Yi said.
"Rest assured, Mr. Long Yi. We have all come to understand your strength, and we are no fools of the Sanctuary Empire," the emperor assured.
Emperor Saint Danze knew very well that his relationship with Long Yi was nothing more than mutual exploitation. However, sometimes a relationship based on mutual use is more reliable than so-called loyalty. At least what kept them connected was solid matter, not some invisible, intangible faithfulness.
Emperor Saint Danze arranged a very luxurious residence for Long Yi around the palace, which he gladly accepted. He also made numerous, quite demanding requests, all of which Emperor Saint Danze satisfied.
Once all was arranged, Long Yi expressed his satisfaction to Emperor Saint Danze, "Rest assured, Your Majesty, I will make sure you realize that what you’ve invested now will be worth it in the end."
Hearing Long Yi’s words, Emperor Saint Danze burst into laughter. Indeed, this was the statement he had been waiting for.
According to Emperor Saint Danze’s understanding of Long Yi, although the man was arrogant, he had never gone back on his word. He was simply overbearing, and during his time in the arena, he had shown mercy to his enemies on multiple occasions.
What does this indicate?
Put nicely, it could be said he is a forthright good man, but put harshly, it means he has little worldly wisdom and lacks sophistication in his actions!
And this was precisely why Emperor Saint Danze chose to trust Long Yi.
In his view, Long Yi was indeed very powerful, absurdly so. But his temperament was not quite in line with his strength. To Emperor Saint Danze, Long Yi seemed like a kid guarding a treasure, with no idea how to utilize his power to create more value.
And that was precisely why Emperor Saint Danze dared to seek out Long Yi.
Even if Long Yi could be of any use to him, at least for now, it didn’t seem likely that he would turn against him.
While Emperor Saint Danze was pleased, another person was not so happy.
That person was Saint Jialin.
The news of Long Yi joining the Sanctuary Empire spread quickly across the plane, and Saint Jialin was the first to receive it. Ever since Long Yi had left, he had been secretly tracking him, but his spies were mysteriously killed several times. At first, Saint Jialin thought it was Long Yi who did it, but a thorough investigation revealed someone else!
The truth was now clear; those who killed his people were from the Sanctuary Empire!
No sooner had Long Yi left than he was invited to the Sanctuary Empire. If there were no spies among his own, Saint Jialin would never believe it. With things as they were, his greatest fear had come to pass. Long Yi was strong and famous throughout the plane. Now that he had joined the Sanctuary Empire, Emperor Saint Danze would surely be able to attract more powerhouses through this.
"Ah, we have indeed suffered a loss in this affair," Saint Jialin sighed and said to August beside him.
August nodded, saying, "Yes, we have suffered a bit of a loss. But at least Miss Ailin is on our side, and because of Long Yi’s entry into the Sanctuary Empire, I think Miss Ailin is even less likely to go to another empire."
The emperor could only nod, then he turned to his three sons, "Has Miss Ailin shown any recent activities?"
First Prince Saint Cassio stepped forward, "Recently, Miss Ailin has been busy with magic research. With her help, our Magic Research Institute has made great strides. As for Long Yi joining the Sanctuary Empire, Miss Ailin has not shown much reaction, and she seems quite indifferent to it."
"She doesn’t care? If it weren’t for her, Long Yi wouldn’t have joined the Sanctuary Empire," Second Prince Saint Julio remarked, his lips curling. After several gaffes, he had completely lost his status with Ailin, and despite his attempts to mend their relationship, she continued to ignore him. Out of options, he eventually gave up all efforts and gradually began to loathe hearing anything about Ailin.
