Chapter 76: Chapter 67: The Birth of the New Master
Unlike those poor Dragon Knights, Dragon Mages both class lessons and practical training all take place indoors. Classrooms are spacious, bright, elegant, and fragrant while the practical training grounds are even larger, tranquil and equally aromatic.
In short, when Long Yi and Ai Lin arrived at the practical training ground, all he felt was the bitterness of the Dragon Knights.
In the training ground, a spell instructor was looking at Long Yi with a disgruntled face, in front of trainer were a dozen or so students, all with displeased expressions, including the four girls previously taken by the spell instructor. Of course, the delicate little boy must still be lying in the hospital bed.
Looking around, there were only three male students out of a dozen or so, all of whom had clean faces and were elegant in stature.
Ah, indeed, this is a haven for sissies, with fragrances filling the surroundings, there’s no trace of a battle atmosphere left?
Being a man who had just battled a spell instructor, Long Yi was naturally ignored. Of course, he didn’t care whether anyone noticed him, he just went straight into the field.
Ai Lin, who was pretty, beautiful, gentle, sexy and slightly shy, quickly won the hearts of a group of girls. The three elegant boys also wanted to talk to her, but a glance from Long Yi’s big eyes instantly made them stay back.
At this point, the spell instructor was staring at Bajie behind Long Yi.
At first glance, Bajie was a fat round dragon, so heavy that walking was like a rockin penguin, with fat jiggling. However, there was another dragon on Bajie’s body.Shadow Dragon?
As a spell instructor, knowledge is far more important than power. He recognized the dragon’s property. Can such a strange dragon also sign a contract with the knight? According to legend, Shadow Dragons look down upon Dragon Knights, their arrogance has reached the point where even the Dragon Clan can’t stand. Nowadays where Dragon Knights rule the sky, it’s rather peculiar that there are still dragons who despise Dragon Knights. Maybe Long Yi does my have some real skill to find a Shadow Dragon.
And looking on top of Bajie’s head, that little girl the size of a palm, no matter how you look at it, it is an infant Fairy Dragon who hasn’t opened its wings, right? Is this bastard a Triple Dragon Knight? How is that possible? If Shadow Dragons look down upon Dragon Knights, then Fairy Dragons look down upon all humans! In their eyes, humans are as ridiculous as monkeys, and only elves can barely communicate with Fairy Dragons. Yet this little Fairy Dragon is sleeping on top of Bajie’s head! It’s said to be a Dragon Knight, but can this Fairy Dragon ride?
In human history, there have been cases of Fairy Dragon Knights, but those knights and Fairy Dragons were in a romantic relationship.
Romantic relationship!
Even as a sissy, the spell instructor felt a hint of jealousy at this moment!
Staring at the little Fairy Dragon, both the spell instructor and Long Yi’s expression became more displeased, and he silently shouted in his heart: "Animal!"
All of a sudden Long Yi felt a chill, at the same time, a baffling rage seemed to emanate from the spell instructor. Why did the spell instructor look at me as if he was looking at an animal? What’s the problem? Is it just because I won against you once? Is your anger so indiscriminate?
"Ahem!"
The spell instructor realized that as a teacher, it was inappropriate to have such emotions as a spell instructor. With a slight flush, he concealed his emotions, and then said: "Long Yi, Ai Lin, both of you have been promoted to the second year halfway through. Yesterday, you should have received the textbooks. But now it’s practical class, you can study the textbooks here, focus on ’Introduction to Magic Studies’ and ’Basic Rune System’. I will coach them first, and then I will come to tutor you."
Long Yi nodded, his impression of the spell instructor improved significantly. Since he entered the academy, although he has challenged two instructors and a spell instructor one after another, these three have not hated him and still patiently taught him, which Long Yi found remarkable. No wonder the White Dragon Empire is standing strong among many empires. You know, a country’s power does not solely lie within the four White Dragons. The strength of a country comes more from the ordinary Dragon Knights, and even those warriors fighting desperately on the ground.
Long Yi and Ai Lin found a quiet corner, and both of them took out the textbooks. However, unlike Long Yi, Ai Lin had already read these textbooks. As a magical genius, not to mention second year textbooks, even fifth-year textbooks Ai Lin have already memorized.
But Long Yi struggled, if you ask him to learn someone else’s skills, he might understand after looking twice; but if you ask him to look at textbooks, Long Yi would be stumped. Fortunately, the genius Ai Lin always managed to explain things to Long Yi in a deep yet simple way.
Soon, the spell instructor had finished the practical training guidance and came to Long Yi. But he saw Ai Lin giving Long Yi a lesson, both very focused, and they didn’t avoid anyone. The spell instructor randomly heard a few sentences, and immediately started sweating.
This little girl, her understanding of spells was not inferior to his at all! And, it seemed, there were some theories he had never heard of!
"Ahem, student Ai Lin, you just mentioned that in this spell, the angle at which the mana operates within the conduit circuit is periodic with this semi-closed function, and the operating speed has a vector relationship with its dynamic angle?"
The magic teacher leaned in to confirm.
"Yes, if you see here, by interpolating the values into the mana dynamics formula and applying the third theorem, the result accurate to twenty-eight decimal places, coupled with the seventeenth formula of Dragon Power, doesn’t it give the same result?"
Ai Lin rattled off a string of words that Long Yi couldn’t comprehend, but it immediately left the magic teacher flabbergasted.
"Miss Ai Lin, the dynamics of mana is taught in the third grade, and the third theorem along with the seventeenth formula of Dragon Power are taught in the fifth grade. These two formulas are used to calculate the energy output of strategic spells. Your idea... really is... You’re a genius!!!"
The magic teacher seemed to have lost his mind with excitement. As a scholar, even though he was just a second grade magic instructor, his real identity was a member of the Imperial Magic Research Academy!
Over the past year, an intractable problem had threated to drive him mad. To relax his mind, he volunteered to teach at the relatively easy second grade, and hoped to find a few students who could meet his expectations.
As the name implies, the Imperial Magic Research Academy was a place to research magic! They were continuously researching and refining new spells, ranging from those for lighting up spaces to devastating ones capable of massive destruction.
However, super destructive spells were seldomly seen on the battlefield. It wasn’t that they couldn’t be created; devastation can be achieved with enough mana output. The real issue was the difficulty in controlling such powerful spells. Any slips could lead to large self-inflicted casualties. In the history of human warfare, there were two instances of super spells causing the instant annihilation of two cities, resulting in untold casualties. From then onwards, different nations kept researching more destructive spells, but also had an unspoken agreement not to use them again on the battlefield.
Now, the focus of the various national magic research academies was on refining conventional spells, such as further enhancing their attacking power, precision, and reducing the consumption of mana. This had become one of the focus areas in the arms race among nations.
Meanwhile, the older scholars increasingly found themselves at a bottleneck. Sometimes, even though they knew that certain spell combinations were feasible, they lacked precise formulas and theoretical support, resulting in time-consuming trial-and-error tests. Magic was extremely precise; therefore, even this method of small iterative tests might not hit the exact target.
But today, with just a single statement, Ai Lin had derived a new theorem from three classic formulas!
Even though it had yet to pass rigorous verification and derivation, the magic teacher could determine that even if this theorem was not entirely accurate, it could pave the way towards resolving the elusive precise theorem!
"Student Ai Lin! Student Ai Lin! You, you’ve truly helped me a lot! This! This formula! My god! I must immediately head to the research academy, you all continue self-studying!"
Without wasting any more time, the magic teacher rushed out of the training ground. Soon after, the sounds of a flying dragon landing and taking off could be heard outside, before quickly fading away.
"Hmm, I think you might have made history. Future students of the Dragon Knight Academy might have to memorize the ’Ai Lin Theorem’, right?"
Long Yi retracted his gaze and said with a smile.
"Really?"
"Of course it’s true. Future legends are certain to feature a bold stroke from the beautiful master Ai Lin!"
Long Yi blurted out without much consideration.
Ai Lin’s face turned a little red. She didn’t catch on to the term ’master’, but picked up ’beautiful’ from their conversation. This seemed to be the first time Long Yi had complimented her beauty!
She had come up with that formula herself when she was just four. As far as she was concerned, it was obvious and did not require discussion or explanation. Yet, from the looks of it, it seemed like nobody knew anything about it.
Since it was self-study time, Long Yi decided to buckle down. Reading textbooks had always been his weak point, and even though he felt confident that he could master any spell demonstrated by the teacher, truly understanding the principles behind a spell was different from mere imitation. Long Yi did not intend to shortchange himself when it came to that.
