Chapter 752: Chapter 594: Ai Lin’s Adventure
After a few days of traveling, Ai Lin began to understand the patterns of the monsters’ movements and tried not to disturb them unnecessarily. Only when she was hungry would she lure out the more powerful ones, kill them and roast their bones — due to her frequent travels with Long Yi, she had plenty of seasoning and various ingredients stored in her private space.
However, it became clear to the monsters that Ai Lin was a formidable opponent. Instead of launching frequent attacks as they did at first, now they mostly kept their distance. Occasionally, Ai Lin could feel powerful waves of energy lurking within the ruins. But since they didn’t come looking for trouble, she wasn’t about to go seeking it out herself.
The ruined buildings here clearly showed signs of intelligent life, but they appeared to have been abandoned for a long time. Having no other alternative, Ai Lin simply continued her journey, hoping to find a suitable exit. Unless a dire situation arose, she was not inclined to blast through the rock layers above. A careless move could easily cause a massive collapse, and the risk of being buried alive was simply too high.
Ai Lin kept moving, but did not illuminate her path. Any source of light could attract monsters. Yet, from a distance, she noticed flashes of light.
In these underground ruins, it was rare to see a flash of light. Anything that could emit light was likely a very powerful creature.
However, the light from those creatures wasn’t like this.
She quickly moved toward the source of the light and gradually, the sounds of explosions reached her, followed by the oscillatory waves of magic spells. As she drew closer, she could even hear the sound of people talking.
"There are more and more monsters, Prince St. Antonio!" A rough voice roared.
"Stand your ground! I must get these two shards of the Cosmic Stone!" A cultured voice, now sounding desperate and distressed, ordered. Then there were the warriors’ furious shouts and the constant fluctuations of Mana.
People!
Ai Lin was incredibly excited!
However, instead of rushing over recklessly, she chose to hide behind the ruins and watch quietly.
They were a group of about a hundred well-dressed warriors in shiny silver armor, covered with tiny runes. Obviously, their runes were far less advanced than the ones on Ai Lin’s body. Each warrior held a wand, over a meter long, with a huge gem embedded at one end. Spells were continuously discharged from the wands.
In the center of the warriors, there was a young, handsome, and blond man in white armor. His face, however, was somewhat contorted. Beside him, there was a robust old man, wielding a long wand from which powerful spells were constantly gushed.
Obviously, the man in the white armor was the so-called Prince St. Antonio. He was studying a massive broken piece of armor, possibly belonging to a giant about three meters high, lying behind him. Prince St. Antonio was kneeling on the ground, trying to extract two brilliant gems set near the wrist of the metal armguard.
It was apparent, the armguard was incredibly heavy. No matter what he did, the armguard did not budge a bit!
Obviously, removing the gemstones wouldn’t be an easy task.
Looking at Prince St. Antonio, one could tell that the armguard was really heavy. He repeatedly blasted spells around the armguard, but it remained undamaged!
The surrounding area was getting crowded with more and more monsters, all of them seemingly attracted to light.
"Aargh..."
A scream echoed as a silver-armored warrior was injured by a spell spit out from a monster’s mouth. His armor was torn open, and his chest was a bloody mess. Immediately, another silver-armored warrior rushed over, dragged him into the crowd for protection, and other nearby soldiers quickly launched spells to blow away the monsters that tried to approach.
However, their numbers were limited, and the monsters’ population was growing. Gradually, some flying monsters joined the battlefield, and the intense barrage of spells made it harder for the warriors to keep up their defense.
"Prince St. Antonio! We can’t hold them off any longer! We must leave, now!" The old man by the prince’s side shouted. While continuing to cast his spells, he also helped other warriors cast protective shields against the monsters’ spell missiles.
"No! We cannot retreat! Even if it costs me my life today, I can’t leave!" The extremely stubborn Prince St. Antonio cried out. He was still trying his best to remove the two gemstones, but it seemed that his progress was no different than before - that is, there was no progress at all.
Should I help?
No matter where these people came from, it was clear that they weren’t from here. Perhaps they were her hope to get out of this place. But she was not some naive girl who didn’t know anything; it would be unwise to just rush out. So she chose to observe for now.
Just then, a deep and hoarse roar came from the deeper parts of the ruins, causing the monsters who had been furiously attacking to gradually halt their assault!
