Chapter 374: Chapter 273: Don’t Back Down! Just Do It!
Long Yi held up the massive two-handed sword and tossed it to a warrior standing before him. The warrior passed his sword to his comrade, and then extended his hand to take Long Yi’s greatsword. The moment he took hold of it, he staggered, nearly dropping it. But then, a humming sound came from his armor, and with more power output, the warrior easily lifted the large sword in his hand.
"This sword was designed according to the optimal power output of the battle armor. I commissioned the Dwarven blacksmith Uncle Golden Hammer to make three improvements, which ultimately reduced its overall weight by a quarter without significantly affecting its strength. All you have to do when you hold it is cut!"
A warrior in his battle armor stands about two meters tall. They were only using ordinary swords. Ordinary soldiers’ swords were much smaller than Dragon-slaying Swords. To match their enhanced strength, the Emperor exchanged all their swords for Dragon-slaying Sabers. But apparently, Long Yi didn’t think that was enough. This new greatsword was radiating a murderous aura, and astonishingly, its blade was full of saw teeth!
"I have here six sword techniques which can be combined and performed seamlessly. If you master these six moves, you’ll be killing machines on the battlefield! The most advanced killing machines in the infantry!"
To illustrate, Long Yi fascinatingly withdrew another identical greatsword from his personal space. Except, this greatsword wasn’t hollow nor sharpened, it looked more like a semi-finished product.
Long Yi swung the greatsword in the vast space, with the terrifying volume of the sword bringing up gusts of wind. He demonstrated the six sword techniques one by one.
Those six techniques completely disregard defense, and they’re also devoid of any frills. Simple to inflict: Left-slice, Right-slice, two moves. Diagonal-slice from left-up to right-down, diagonal-slice from right-down to left-up, and two more the other way round, totaling six moves.
How can this be difficult?
The warrior’s gazes met each other. Although Long Yi couldn’t see their faces hidden beneath the Battle Armor, he could sense their disdain from their subtle body language.
"Come on, let’s give it a go," Long Yi smiled, pointing at the armored warrior who had just received the new greatsword.
"That’s not appropriate, Lord Long Yi, what if you get hurt..."
"Don’t worry about hurting me. If your sword can even touch me once, our Emperor will fulfill any condition you name. Whether it’s becoming a Finance Minister or granting you a position of General," Long Yi said with a smile.
"That..." The warrior clearly thought Long Yi was joking.
"Accepted." Emperor Kirei interjected.
"Go on! If we win, we’d be mad not to take a position as an officer!" His comrades encouraged him.
"Fine!" The warrior stepped out.
"Come on!"
Long Yi waved at him.
"Lord Long Yi, be careful!"
The warrior roared, his battle armor operating at full power. With the sound of a roaring wind, he struck at Long Yi with his greatsword. Long Yi, facing the large sword, simultaneously smashed his greatsword out, and almost at the same time, used the recoil to slash diagonally.
Bang!
The waist of the warrior’s battle armor was hit, resulting in a dent, and he himself was sent flying away.
"Anyone can give it a try, if you can touch me, your wish will be granted." Long Yi hooked his hands at everyone in front of him.
But, everyone reacted similarly, almost everyone’s armor was dented by Long Yi.
"Hey, hey, Long Yi, these are my carefully selected warriors, you can’t be so hard on them." Kirei called out helplessly beside him.
"Heh heh, I thought you’d only be worried about the armor." Long Yi said with a laugh.
"Armor can be remade, but warriors are more valuable than armor," the Emperor declared.
Such is the art of language!
The armored warriors who fell to the ground were all filled with shame. They had just put on their battle armor not long ago. Just when they were feeling most self-satisfied, they didn’t expect to be unable to withstand even Long Yi’s bare-handed attacks. Yet, instead of blaming them, the Emperor is actually worried about them.
This is simply a betrayal of the Emperor’s trust in them!
"Want to know where you lost?" Long Yi asked the few fallen warriors.
"We’re not flexible enough," one of the warriors replied. It was the one who Long Yi had downed first.
"Oh?" Long Yi smiled, "You have an infantry standard sword and a Dragon-slaying Sword there. Choose whichever you think is more agile."
That warrior immediately picked up the Dragon-slaying Sword. The Dragon-slaying Sword was larger than the infantry standard sword but much smaller compared to the greatsword in Long Yi’s hand.
Gripping the Dragon-slaying Sword, the warrior immediately felt confident again. He bellowed and charged at Long Yi, who seemed completely unguarded.
In the face of the warrior’s assault, all Long Yi did was swing his sword horizontally.
With the incomparably heavy greatsword came absolute suppression. Without a similarly large sword in hand, the warrior had no choice but to retreat immediately and tried to find a gap in Long Yi’s attack. In his eyes, Long Yi’s greatsword was incredibly heavy and must have large gaps in his attacks.
But Long Yi launched a second, third, and fourth sword attack in an eerie manner!
That’s impossible! Long Yi didn’t even use Fighting Aura! How did he neutralize the massive inertia!
At this moment, everyone realized what Long Yi had done - using the inertia at the end of the stroke to achieve a second acceleration! His movements weren’t just vertical, they used the immense weight of the greatsword itself!
The extreme disparity of the weapon weights meant that the armored soldiers didn’t dare approach, even though they were clothed in incredibly sturdy battle armor, they still didn’t want to be swept by Long Yi’s greatsword.
At this moment, the soldier immediately understood why Long Yi had insisted they use such heavy weapons.
The truth was, when facing such an attack head-on, no one could win. Of course, unless one’s opponent was a Dragon Knight. However, if your opponent was a Dragon Knight, even if you had a different weapon, you would still not have a chance of winning.
"I surrender." The soldier said, dejected, throwing down their weapons.
"Does anyone else want to try?" Long Yi asked.
"I’ll give it a try." Gav said, picking up the sword that had just been dropped on the ground.
"Okay!"
Long Yi smiled.
The old servant beside the Emperor was an old dragon. Even though he had taken human form, he still possessed the Dragon Clan’s strong physique.
"However, old man, if I win, can you answer a few questions for me?" Long Yi asked.
"I’m afraid not, I’ve promised someone that I cannot answer your questions and can’t even converse with you." Gav replied.
"Alright, never mind then." Long Yi replied, his smile widening.
Gav’s swordsmanship was very good. As an old dragon, he had more time to waste on training his swordsmanship. Compared to the previous soldier, he was faster and trickier.
"Ha!" Long Yi struck with his sword, Gav dodged while stabbing with his own, targeting Long Yi. Clearly it was too late to dodge, but Long Yi didn’t plan to evade. His brute force erupted, his greatsword swung upward diagonally. If Gav didn’t dodge, while Long Yi would get hurt, Gav would also be hit by the greatsword. They would both be injured. Gav retreated, dodging the blade whilst barely avoiding Long Yi’s greatsword. The next moment, he struck towards Long Yi with his sword again. Immedietly, Long Yi used the greatsword’s inertia and made a quick turn, retreating a step whilst swinging in a downward arc!
"Good!"
Gav shouted, instantly avoiding the sword. The greatsword crashed into the ground and the hard rock was instantaneously smashed to pieces. Furthermore, the greatsword actually bounced off the ground and Long Yi took advantage of this rebound, slashing again horizontally!
"Excellent!"
Gav leaped high into the air, attacking Long Yi from above. Long Yi, however, changed direction mid-swing, changing from a horizontal swing into an upward thrust, pursuing Gav from behind!
Clang!
With a crisp sound, Gav blocked Long Yi’s greatsword with his own, the longsword creaking under the pressure. Gav retreated several meters in mid-air, slowly landing.
"Very good, I approve of this sword technique." Gav said.
By now, not just Gav, but all the armored soldiers present understood that this technique meant sacrificing all defense for brute attack power. In a battlefield, once deployed, it’s the nightmare of large-scale legions! It could be said that without the cover of the Flying Dragon Knight, even the Earth Dragon Knight might not be able to resist the crush of the Armored Soldier Legion!
Long Yi threw the sword back into his personal space, then looked at the Armored Soldiers present:
"You’ve seen a real battle. Now, I hope you will forget all the sword techniques you have learned before, and focus on integrating this new sword technique into your minds. You should know that you’re the first batch of armored soldiers. The future construction of the Empire’s Armored Legion will rely on you. Most of you come from honorable noble families, the rest I do not need to say - you understand. Your future is in your own hands, understand?"
"Yes!"
Everyone present was very clear that in the future, the White Dragon Empire would undoubtedly focus on the development of the armored legions, perhaps even replacing all ground forces with armored legions. As the first group of selected soldiers, they would certainly be heavily utilized! No one was foolish; no further explanation was needed.
One word — ’train’. As warriors, who would be afraid of training?
Long Yi had ten greatswords here, and six different sword prototypes for the training program, which he handed to these soldiers.
New greatswords would be continuously transported from the dwarves, but that was no longer something Long Yi needed to worry about. Now Long Yi and Emperor Kirei stood together, watching the soldiers undergoing new training.
"Give me your assessment," the Emperor said.
"Very well, very good," Long Yi replied.
"But?" the Emperor asked, smiling. "I know you like to say ’but’ after compliments. Don’t be polite; tell me what you really think."
"Actually, I really think they’re not bad. For their strength, they’ve done well. I just think there are too few of them," Long Yi said.
"Few..." Emperor Kirei immediately smirked. "I know that too. We have established a secure and confidential transportation channel with the dwarves. The dwarves’ craftsmanship is exquisite, the speed and quality of their work is guaranteed. But we don’t have as fast a supply for the power cores. Especially recently ... the supply of crystal cores is being rapidly depleted. After all, the battle armor needs power cores on this end, and the crystal cores to make molten beasts on the other. The empire’s internal crystal core reserves are being depleted at an alarming rate".
"What about the purchasing plan?" Long Yi asked.
"I have already mobilized all families, both commercial and old noble clans, to provide crystal cores by any means. Whether it’s hunting, smuggling, or other means. In fact, in recent times, the supply of crystal cores has recovered somewhat. However, this kind of thing was nearly worthless research material not long ago, and ordinary people can’t stockpile it, and national reserves won’t be sold."
"So, it’s already this dire?" Long Yi said, running his fingers through his hair.
"Yes, it’s already that dire," the Emperor said, looking a bit helpless. (To be continued. If you like this work, please come to qidian.com to vote for recommendation tickets and monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users please read on m.qidian.com.)
