Chapter 301: Chapter 210: Seemingly Chaotic

Long Yi wondered if the old man had gone far. He felt that facing the old man alone seemed feasible, but in a complex environment, he might not necessarily have the upper hand.

Moreover, at such a time, not a single person was around the Third Prince, Tilian, which was somewhat unreasonable. Even though this matter was secretive, Long Yi did not believe that Tilian had no accomplices.

Patience is the key to surviving behind enemy lines.

Long Yi was impatient, but in battle, he never lacked patience. Xiaoyou was by nature the type to patiently wait for an opportunity to strike, and was even more patient.

In the end, Long Yi’s patience was affirmed.

About an hour later, Tilian had cleared a large section of the area. Seemingly exhausted, he summoned five dragon knights, the strongest among them bearing four Dragon Marks, with the rest bearing three.

They had been lying in ambush around him all along.

As expected, Tilian was no fool. He was actually using himself as bait to draw in the enemy.

The knight with four Dragon Marks surely held a high rank in the knight group. Did this mean that although on the surface the five major Dragon Knight Legions had done nothing, disagreements were already starting to emerge in private?

All five Dragon Knight Legions are not of one mind. Besides the Third Legion, the remaining four seemed to have their own agendas.

Hmm, this is a problem.

Quietly retreating, Long Yi prepared to leave. Staying here no longer made any sense, so he decided to go to General Kai Long and predict his fate, waiting for the veteran’s guidance on this unexpected event. Then, Long Yi looked up at the Guardian White Dragon Tower.

I wonder how Elsa is doing.

At the moment, inside the Guardian White Dragon Tower, Elsa faced three Great Guardian Dragon Knights. On the ground, a huge magic array was rotating, and the crystal greatsword in Elsa’s hand was glowing. When she struck the air, it was repelled back.

Every time Elsa swung her sword, the three Dragon Knights felt as if they had been hit by a rhinoceros.

The leader of the White Dragon Knight Order smiled bitterly, "Elsa, you can’t leave now. We, the White Dragon Knights, are Guardian Dragon Knights. We only need to take action when the Empire faces major external threats. This time it’s an internal affair of the Empire, you can’t go."

Elsa, with a cold face, responded, "I’m not interested in your rules."

The Group Leader forced a smile, not saying much, focusing on controlling his fighting aura.

Duo Mo muttered, "Group Leader, are we just going to drain her like this?"

The Group Leader countered, "What else can we do?"

Duo Mo was at a loss for words. It took all three Dragon Knights together to trap Elsa in this magic array. If it was an ordinary Dragon Knight, they would have collapsed and been paralyzed by now. Yet, Elsa had not fallen, instead she was furiously hacking at the light shield.

Elsa, with her nine Dragon Marks, was now at the peak of the Guardian Dragon Knights in terms of power. Whether in terms of strength or ferocity in battle, no one in the entire Guardian Dragon Knight Tower came even close. Fighting her directly was definitely out of the question. But if they just kept her trapped, when would it end?

By now, Long Yi had quietly left the Imperial Palace. As he entered the secret passage, he heard the commotion behind him. Based on the sound, it seemed like the guards whom Long Yi had knocked out had been discovered.

But that didn’t matter, he was already gone.

There was no secret passage to General Kai Long’s house. Rather, if there was, Long Yi didn’t know about it. Therefore, he had to emerge halfway through the sewer system and openly walk to the front door of General Kai Long’s house.

Then, without surprise, he encountered resistance.

Strangely enough, those who obstructed him were Earth Dragon Knights and there were no Flying Dragon Knights. Long Yi remembered that Ais had said there were quite a few Flying Dragon Knights here.

"Halt! This is a restricted area of the General’s Mansion. Idle people are not allowed to approach!" an Earth Dragon Knight bellowed.

"I’m not an idle person, I’m the son-in-law of Old Master Kai Long!" Long Yi shamelessly said.

"Son-in-law? Hahaha! I am General Kai Long’s own son! Come on, call me uncle! Hahaha!" The Earth Dragon Knight laughed heartily.

"Ah, youth, don’t you know? As the ancients used to say, ’NO ZUO NO DIE, WHY YOU TRY?’" Long Yi spoke gibberish.

"What’s that gibberish you’re saying? Who the hell is a youth? This man has illicit intentions! Arrest him!" The Dragon Knight issued a high command, and several Earth Dragon Knights immediately rushed up. Surrounded by Earth Dragons that were gathering dragon breath in their mouths, Long Yi felt helpless. However, not causing some commotion was apparently not his style.

His flashily drawn Frost Mourner removed the heads of two Earth Dragons immediately.

"It’s Fighting Aura! At least three Dragon Marks! This guy is a Dragon Knight!" A knight yelled as the Mount Dragon fell.

"Allow me to translate for you, boys: ’don’t seek trouble, and trouble won’t find you!’"

These Earth Dragon Knights were undoubtedly part of the third Crown Prince’s team. It would be no loss to defeat them, battered as they were by Long Yi.

In the Dragon Knight Academy, there were far more Earth Dragon Knights than Flying Dragon Knights. The entire White Dragon Empire had nearly three thousand Flying Dragon Knights, but almost a hundred thousand Earth Dragon Knights. While considered Dragon Knights, they didn’t receive the same attention as their flying counterparts. Of course, that was largely due to the inferior bloodline of the Earth Dragons, limiting their capabilities and rendering them unable to fly and perform surprise attacks. They had always been overlooked. Despite this, they were the primary force on the battlefield. While the Flying Dragon Knights held the superiority in the air, the Earth Dragon Knights turned that superiority into victory.

Unfortunately, they remained overlooked. Hence, on this occasion, the third Crown Prince covertly won over a group of Earth Dragon Knight officers, promising to elevate their status. Combined with some covert instigation and manipulation, a sizable group of Earth Dragon Knights ended up serving the third Crown Prince.

The ones Long Yi had just knocked over were part of that group.

Having fought his way through, Long Yi easily entered the gate. Behind it, attendants of the General’s Mansion had been waiting to open the door for him. Recently, the Imperial City had descended into chaos. Even though the General’s Mansion had been unaffected so far, no one knew whether this would remain the case in the future. The whole place was on edge. However, in the study, Old Master Kai Long seemed to be in good spirits.

A large table, a sandbox map of the Imperial City.

"I guessed you would come to find me," Kai Long said.

"You are truly insightful!" Long Yi praised without hesitation. It didn’t cost anything, and it didn’t require any fighting aura.

"What do you think of the current situation in the Imperial City?" Kai Long, not wasting any words, asked Long Yi directly.

"Initially, I thought it wasn’t a serious issue, but now, I can’t say for sure. Tilian has prepared quite thoroughly, and his people are everywhere. I don’t have an accurate assessment of the strengths of both sides, so if you ask me, my reply can only be three words—I don’t know," Long Yi honestly admitted.

"I thought you were going to boast to me that having just one man would be enough," Kai Long laughed.

"I never boast. I base my assertions on a clear evaluation of the opposing forces," Long Yi said.

"Well, then, let me tell you. At present within the Imperial City, the third Crown Prince, Tilian, far surpasses the second prince. If a battle is to occur here, the second prince is certainly doomed," Kai Long stated.

"I’ve noticed that," Long Yi acknowledged, "That’s why the second prince has decided to head to the Dragon Knight Academy. I am thinking, if the battlefield was there, at least we wouldn’t have to deal with foreign troublemakers any more, right?"

"Leveraging the reputation of the Dragon Knight Academy to reduce damage? An interesting idea, but have you considered that you might draw innocent people into the conflict?" 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

Upon hearing Long Yi’s attempt to move the battlefield to the Dragon Knight Academy, General Kai Long couldn’t help furrowing his brow slightly.

"Okay, Old Master, please stop pretending to be the people’s savior. The Dragon Knight Academy is a place to train warriors. Can a conflict of this scale be considered a setback? All it does is let the new recruits experience the battlefield a little earlier. Moreover, it also gives them a chance to see who is really on the second prince’s side,"

Long Yi reassured, patting Kai Long’s shoulder.

Despite many years commanding armies, this was the second time that Iron Blood General Kai Long allowed a grandchild to pat his shoulder, which he found somewhat uncomfortable.

"So, you are firmly standing by the second prince? I hadn’t realized that your relationship was that good," Kai Long’s expression betrayed slight disbelief as he looked towards Long Yi.

"Actually, that’s not entirely accurate," Long Yi smiled, "To be honest, it doesn’t really matter to me who ends up becoming the emperor of this country. The only reason I’m helping the second prince is that I find him more palatable. After all, he’s a master in the art of telling jokes. Of course, the more important reason is that I seriously dislike the third prince. Don’t you agree that the third prince is incredibly annoying?"

There was a dangerous gleam in Long Yi’s eyes.

Listening to Long Yi’s words, General Kai Long secretly nodded, these words fitting perfectly with his judgement of Long Yi. In General Kai Long’s eyes, Long Yi was an unreliable youth. He was powerful, but he seriously lacked a sense of national duty. Rather than a soldier, he seemed more like a ranger. Although he had once sworn never to betray this country, Kai Long had difficulty identifying any proof of that vow in Long Yi’s eyes. He seemed like he would be loyal to a completely different country.

Ai Lin had a high opinion of Long Yi and Ais felt just as fond of him. Based on information gathered from many sources, Long Yi and the Dwarves and Elves had a unique relationship. A man like that should have been a force to be reckoned with, wielding power and influence wherever he went. So why was he content to stay in the Dragon Knight Academy? Was he really that interested in the curriculum?

No matter what the reason, Kai Long believed that Long Yi genuinely cared about his friends based on Ai Lin’s transformation.

Truthfully, Ai Lin’s sudden transformation into a Fairy Dragon had given Kai Long a real scare. If not for the fact that Kai Long habitually kept a deadpan expression, Ai Lin might have noticed his surprise. Back in the day, due to Kai Long’s selfishness, Ai Lin had transformed from a prodigy into a pariah. This had hurt Kai Long deeply. Therefore, when Ai Lin regained and surpassed her original strength, he was truly delighted. While Ai Lin had indeed physically changed, she had become more powerful. At this point, Kai Long didn’t really care about the details. As long as Ai Lin was happy, and survived any battles, he could accept anything.

Moreover, the image of a Fairy Dragon was only viewed as noble in the eyes of others!

As soon as Long Yi had received his millions of credits, Kai Long had been notified. He also learned from Ai Lin that Long Yi left the Dragon God’s space with only two hundred thousand credits. Kai Long found it hard to comprehend how Long Yi could willingly part with his precious hundred thousand credits to give Ai Lin her second chance to have a Dragon Egg.

Surely, only the closest of kin could make such a sacrifice?

"Old Master, you’ve been lost in thought staring at my face for a minute now. Are you planning to sketch a flower on my face with your gaze?" Unable to bear the perplexing silence any longer, Long Yi asked. (To be continued. If you like this work, be sure to check it out on qidian.com.
