Chapter 281: Chapter 191: Is This a Golem?_2
As the direct reason for this victory and the greatest hero of the battle, Long Yi naturally received a warm welcome from everyone present. Wesley, the Chef, and the Mosquito Brothers were also on the invitation list, and their families naturally enjoyed the hospitality of the royals as well. Though this banquet didn’t seem like a big deal to Long Yi, it was filled with honor and opportunity for the families of Wesley, the Chef and the Mosquito Brothers!
The three of them all sported new hairstyles and found the most fitting suits. Attending a royal banquet, that was something to brag about for generations!
However, the main focus was still Long Yi. Apart from the endless toasts from those who used to acknowledge him, even the blushing girls who came with their parents were eager to talk to him. The Emperor’s twin princesses personally came to pull Long Yi away from Ai Lin, dancing with him turn by turn before returning him to Ai Lin. Although Long Yi was not good at dancing, he managed to pull it off relatively well thanks to the etiquette lessons from Little Zi.
Ai Lin, fuming, saw that Long Yi was finally free from the crowd and quickly rushed over to grab his arm, declaring her claim to him.
After dealing with the waves of noble lords who came to congratulate him, Dean Ma Deburg, who had been waiting on the side for a long time, finally came over, accompanied by an old man his age.
"Long Yi, we would like to discuss something with you." Dean Ma Deburg said with a smiling face.
"Dean, just tell me. You and I, we’re good, you can ask anything." Long Yi replied boldly.
"Alright, then I’ll get straight to the point. This is Angidd, the Dean of the Mechanical Research Institute. You’ve seen him on the airship before. We old guys would like to ask you for a favor to help us check our restored golems.
"Restored golems! Sure!" Long Yi’s eyes lit up. Compared to the boring banquet, Long Yi preferred the taste of metal and machinery.
Yes, I’m a mechanical nerd!
"So when are we going?" Deans Ma Deburg and Angidd looked at each other, both seeing the excitement in each other’s eyes.
"I’m afraid it won’t work now. My special advisor isn’t here. Can we wait for a couple of days?" The advisor, Fine Gold Golem, was still needed by Long Yi despite having regained knowledge about the golems.
"No worries, I’ve already recovered. Let’s go."
A golden light appeared, and the Fine Gold Golem emerged from beside Long Yi. For some reason, Long Yi felt that the golem’s body was weak, and it seemed to move listlessly.
"Are you okay?" Long Yi supported her. The touch was unexpectedly soft! It felt like her body was not fine gold, but golden skin!
The golem shook her head, saying, "I consumed too much power. You were in a coma, and I couldn’t recover by drawing from your power. But you woke up too briefly, so I’m not fully recovered yet. Additionally, please move your gaze away from my chest, even though it’s soft now, it’s still made of metal."
"Oh."
Long Yi blushed and obediently moved his gaze.
This conversation left the two deans with wide-open eyes!
This is a golem? It’s more like a real girl! But, Dean Ma Deburg was very sure, the seemingly ’girl’ of dark gold standing before them is definitely a golem, and many other people could prove this. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been able to hold on against the Black Dragon’s mouth, remain unharmed in the Dragon’s Breath, or forcibly deform a Dragon Rider with four Dragon Marks in the end.
However, Dean Angidd from the Mechanical Research Institute wasn’t ready to give up. He quickly stepped forward pretending to assist the golem, but his touch met cold, hard metal. Observing closely, despite patterns engraved all over her body like armor, there were no seams at the joints. Her face had no openings for breathing, any living person would have suffocated.
Well, she is indeed still a golem.
Dean Angidd gave up.
With Ai Lin, Long Yi quietly followed the two elderly Deans out of the Imperial Palace — of course, this was definitely with the Emperor’s approval. In fact, the Emperor was very happy because the importance of golems to a country was evident.
A large carriage was already waiting outside. The five of them boarded and headed towards the research institute. Finally, inside a warehouse, Long Yi saw the restored golems.
The warehouse was full. Long Yi roughly counted more than three hundred golems. These golems were pitch black, obviously made from high-quality metal. Their heights were roughly the same as that of Long Yi, but they had a wider body and muscular limbs.
"Are these your restored golems?" The Fine Gold Golem asked dubiously upon seeing the golems standing before her.
"Yes, it is indeed them." The two Deans responded in unison.
"Show me," the Fine Gold Golem said.
Dean Angidd promptly moved to a golem, opened its chestplate, and managed some adjustments. The golem’s eyes lit up and it made a strange noise.
"The ancient language expert said it’s ready for battle," Dean Ma Deburg said.
"It’s an ancient language," Long Yi said. "What it says is, ’Battle armor, ready.’"
"Battle armor?" Angidd looked at Ma Deburg in confusion.
"You don’t need to exchange glances. These things aren’t golems, they’re battle armor. Just like you heard, they are armors," the Fine Gold Golem said.
"But they can move," Angidd noted, directing the following command to the armor, "Take two steps forward!"
The armor promptly thudded forward two steps, showing that it was exceptionally heavy.
"Of course they can move. Otherwise, how can they be used as battle armor?" the Fine Gold Golem said.
"Are these creations from the Giant Era?" Long Yi quietly asked the Fine Gold Golem.
"Yes and no. These battle armors were made by giants for humans, after all, what would giants need these things for? As children’s playthings?" the Golem responded.
"That makes sense," Long Yi immediately understood.
"Since they are not golems, how should they be operated?" At this point, both deans looked bewildered. After all these years of hard work, what they had was not a real golem!
"Let me inspect it first."
The Fine Gold Golem came to the armor, skillfully opened the plates, had a look over, and then said, "You have overcorrected. Although you have successfully restored the main frame, the most crucial power system has been incorrectly connected."
"What should we do then?" The old man’s eyes glowed.
"Dismantle?" Both old men exchanged glances.
"Dismantle!"
With Long Yi’s help, the huge armor was disassembled. As could be seen, the interior of the armor had ample space, but now it was filled with complex mechanisms, the power components restored later. Though the components were exquisitely made, they were indeed very clumsy.
"When you initially said you had restored the golem, I really thought it was a golem. Because golems are modularly designed, if you restore it, there definitely won’t be a problem. But what I’m seeing now is armor, and the level of your restoration is truly breathtaking."
"Thank you," both deans modestly responded, because restoring the armor was one of their proudest accomplishments.
"No, you misunderstood. What I am saying is that you’re breathtakingly foolish," the Fine Gold Golem was brutally honest, obliterating what little pride they had left.
Soon, the entire set of armor was scattered all over the floor.
"Okay, repair it." The Fine Gold Golem pointed at Long Yi.
"Ah? He’s repairing it?" Both Deans Angidd and Ma Deburg were stunned. In their minds, Long Yi was a blacksmith, an excellent Dragon Knight. But restoring a golem required specialized knowledge from a range of disciplines, not something anyone could easily grasp.
"Exactly, he’s the one who really knows how to repair it!" the Fine Gold Golem said.
"In that case, we’ll wait. It shouldn’t take too long to fix this," Long Yi said with a smile. (To be continued. If you like this story, please support by voting for it at qidian.com. Your support means a lot. Mobile users may access m.qidian.com for reading.)
