Chapter 257: Chapter 180: Is it Really a Sports Competition?

Long Yi sneered coldly, completely uninterested in dodging any impending attack. However, the Fine Gold Golem suddenly pulled Long Yi aside and faced the protocol officer by herself.

Boom!

Pure black flames erupted.

"Damn it!"

The impact of the flames blasted everyone around and they were scattered in disarray, but the range was limited. The fire came quickly and disappeared just as fast, leaving nothing but a pit in the ground. The protocol officer had vanished, and the Fine Gold Golem remained unscathed.

"Big sis, are you okay?" Long Yi rushed over to the Fine Gold Golem, who was still wreathed in a faint black flame. As he got closer, a strange smell filled his nostrils.

"The compressed Dragon Breath of the Black Dragon is not dense enough to damage me," the Fine Gold Golem said, "but it could shackle you to a bed for a week."

"Well... as long as you’re okay... heh heh..." Now Long Yi was dripping with cold sweat. He had made an error of judgement based on past experiences. He was certain that if during his time with the peacekeeping force in the war zone, he would never have let anyone get so close to him.

The Fine Gold Golem paused for a moment, the rune carvings on her body flashed, and a quiet voice resonated from within.

"First time node has been altered, preparing to engage with new timeline, three, two, one, successful integration into new timeline, recalibrating time."

"Huh? What did you just say?" Long Yi didn’t quite catch it.

The Fine Gold Golem didn’t respond. Instead, its gaze shifted towards the starry sky. A moment later, it lowered its gaze back to Long Yi.

"Nothing, master. I’m just an artifact. Think of me as a music box playing its own tune."

Long Yi was helplessly frustrated. Regardless, facing the one who had saved his life, Long Yi didn’t plan to utter another word. The Fine Gold Golem had always been enigmatically secretive, enough to induce baldness due to excessive thinking. Having no other choice, he attributed its mystery to ancient technology.

While he could not unmask the Golem’s cryptic essence, Long Yi had plenty of measures in place for enemies.

The sudden self-destructive assault had the White Dragon Empire on edge, reducing the remaining four protocol officers to their control. However, these four were evidently just as shocked, and overwhelmed by their suddenly self-destructive colleague.

These protocol officers were temporarily recruited. Once the Grand Tournament of the Seven Kingdoms ended, each went their separate ways, and they did not even recognize the one who had exploded.

The explosion alerted the security personnel conducting safety inspections. They swiftly assembled for an investigation on-site. In theory, this incident would be interpreted as a serious diplomatic crisis. The accompanying diplomats were left fuming, preparing to vent out their frustrations on the representatives of the White Dragon Empire. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

But, would they back off?

No, of course not.

Everyone, whether affiliated with the White Dragon Empire or not, understood that the White Dragon Empire was entering a dangerous territory. No one expected the Black Dragon Empire to raise the stakes to such an extent. But they somewhat knew that the journey of the folks of the White Dragon Empire to the Black Dragon Empire would not be a quiet one.

Everyone was aware of the Black Dragon Empire’s involvement in this incident. However, the next day, the Emperor of the Black Dragon Empire immediately issued a statement claiming the suicide bomber acted independently due to a personal grudge, born from losing family in battle to the Dragon Knights of the White Dragon Empire. It was not an act incited by anyone from the Black Dragon Empire. The Black Dragon Empire promised to ensure the safety of the White Dragon Empire’s representatives in the coming week. But, if they were concerned for their safety, the Black Dragon Empire could even send their troops to escort them back home.

No one believed this incident had nothing to do with the Black Dragon Empire. But, this was the nature of diplomacy. It remained to be seen how many times such excuses could be used. As for the apparent provocation, Long Yi was more than willing to take the bait. He wanted to know just how dangerous these so-called threats could get.

Long Yi, at present, was nineteen. This meant he had spent nineteen whole years away from wars. While the monster hunt he had been involved in was indeed perilous, it was nothing compared to this.

Despite the attack, the folks from the White Dragon Empire still participated in the opening ceremony of the Grand Tournament of the Seven Kingdoms. But now, their lax attitude had entirely dissipated. Everyone knew this was serious.

At the opening ceremony, Long Yi saw Kaniel Black, the grim-faced Emperor of the Black Dragon Empire. The elder, who bore a slight resemblance to Jack Blake, couldn’t compare to the Emperor of the White Dragon Empire in appearance. Throughout the ceremony, his gaze fixated on Long Yi and his group of Dragon Knights, his murderous intent barely concealed.

Long Yi didn’t care, he was just curious to know, what cards the Black Dragon Empire would play next?

Only when the Grand Tournament of the Seven Kingdoms began, did Long Yi realize that it was, in fact, a sports competition!

Running, long jump, high jump, swimming; all typical events were present. Of course, one could not use their Fighting Aura. On the sidelines were devices specifically designed to detect Fighting Aura. If any was detected, the participant would be immediately disqualified.

With his remarkable brute strength, Long Yi participated in several strength-based events, shot put, discus throw, javelin throw; and achieved remarkable results as expected. He won two championships in shot put and discus throw, but had no luck with javelin throw. The latter took more than just brute strength, a certain technique was required. Despite three attempts, he failed - twice he broke the solid-steel javelin due to excessive exertion, and once, the javelin somersaulted in mid-air and failed to land correctly.
