Chapter 177: Chapter 142: The Unsurprising Victory in the Lawsuit
"Where should I start?"
"Begin with your first encounter with Mr. Joseph."
"Alright, let me think. At the time, Mr. Joseph was living in the tent beside mine. I was bathing when I heard a series of slapping sounds and a suppressed voice of a woman from the next tent..."
Long Yi started describing the process, narrating in vivid detail the events of that day. This includes handing the girl over to Captain Big Beard, Joseph’s revenge, and the failure of Iron Hand Lin En. In fact, these contents are irrelevant to today’s case, but Joseph’s defense counsel did not ask Long Yi to stop but listened patiently until he finished.
"You personally saw that the girl slapped Joseph immediately after the spell was lifted, and burst into tears?" asked the short public prosecutor.
"Yes, I witnessed it with my own eyes, and many people on the scene noticed it. Perhaps they could gather the courage to testify as a group." said Long Yi.
"Thank you, Mr. Long Yi, Your Honor. I have no other questions," said the short prosecutor, returning to his seat.
"Mr. Long Yi, according to your description, it seems you hold a grudge against my client, Mr. Joseph," said Joseph’s chubby defense counsel, smiling insincerely at Long Yi.
"Why would you say that?" Long Yi asked back.
"Because he tried to touch your Fairy Dragon without your permission, out of surprise." the counsel replied.
"That’s impossible. If I held a grudge against him, I would have beaten him on the spot," said Long Yi with a smile.
"Mr. Long Yi! Watch your words!" warned the Chief Justice.
"I apologize, Your Honor. It might be unpleasant but it’s the truth. Please forgive me, I just took an oath and I don’t want to be reprimanded by Divine Power," Long Yi said with a smile.
"Haha, the name Long Yi. Anyone who pays attention to Dragon Rider Academy would have heard of it! A newly admitted prodigy, who ranked second in the academy’s tasks. And most importantly, he is known for his nature to bear a grudge. In my opinion, you had a grudge against Joseph and orchestrated this farce using the Female Demon’s mental magic!" the chubby defense counsel shouted accusingly at Long Yi.
"Objection, Your Honor!"
"Counselor! Watch your words! No hypothetical inference!" The judge’s hawk-like eyes glared at the defense counsel, making the chubby man shudder.
"My apologies, I simply had to remind Your Honor to consider the possibility of a vested interest between the defendant and the prosecutor," the defense counsel said with a smirk.
"Vested interest? Like the thirty thousand gold coins and a mansion in the royal city? The Hagrid family is really stingy," Long Yi mocked.
"Order!"
Thud!
The gavel fell and the judge glared sternly at Long Yi. Even the fearless Long Yi jumped at the sight, finding the judge quite formidable.
"Your Honor, I have no more questions," said the defense counsel.
"Your Honor, we would like to call our second witness! The Female Demon, Little Zi!" the prosecutor immediately stood and said.
"I object! The Female Demon is not human! She can’t serve as a witness!" the chubby defense counsel, who had just returned to his seat, objected.
"Objection overruled. The Empire’s law stipulates that any life with sufficient intelligence can serve as a witness," the judge ruled.
Little Zi then gracefully rose, floating to Long Yi’s side. Only then did the audience let out a gasp of surprise. She, the adorable little maid, was a Female Demon!
"Silence! Long Yi, command your servant to provide a true account." said the judge.
Long Yi frowned, not exactly fond of the word ’command’.
"Little Zi, tell them what happened back then." His tone was far from commanding, but essentially did not contradict the judge’s request who kept quiet about it, knowing that there were people in the world who treated their servants as friends.
Little Zi gratefully glanced at Long Yi, then started recounting the events in detail, just as Long Yi had. However, she also described in detail the mental magic Joseph had cast.
"Is that all? Your Honor? Forgive my bluntness, the words of such an evil demon are not trustworthy. Who knows if she’s exerting mental magic on everyone here? Bringing a demon to stand as a witness is even more ridiculous than a farce!"
Joseph’s defense counsel shouted in indignation.
"If I were exerting mental magic, I would first burn out your brain, fatso," thought Little Zi, staring at Joseph’s defense counsel. However, she didn’t say it out loud. At a time like this, speaking would only bring trouble to her own side. As a clever little maid, she knew what should and shouldn’t be said.
"I can prove the credibility of my words, as long as someone cooperates with me on an experiment," said Little Zi.
"Whether the words of the witness, Little Zi, can be trusted, we have already found four respected researchers from the royal academy of magic. They will serve as our third group of witnesses today!" the short prosecutor announced.
With that, the four researchers all took the stage, swore an oath, and then started arguing with each other.
"I finished swearing first! I should be sitting next to Little Zi!" one of the researchers claimed.
