Chapter 1489: Chapter 1166: Mediocre Warrior_2

And so, after various battles, the day of the final match of the entire group’s tournament finally arrived.

Unsurprisingly, the combatants were Elsa on one side and, on the other, a warrior completely devoid of any distinguishing features.

To say he was devoid of distinguishing features does not imply he was weak but rather that he did not have any particularly outstanding qualities like the other star warriors. His fighting method was by the book, and his personality was entirely unremarkable. Yet it was such a person who had defeated all his opponents and now stood before Elsa.

"I don’t believe he’s an ordinary warrior," Long Yi said.

"I don’t believe it either," Elsa said. "For an ordinary warrior to stand here, he must have either bribed all his foes or he’s just pretending to be unremarkable."

"Have you watched his fights though?" Long Yi asked.

"Actually, that’s the problem. In my memory, I only remember him as an ordinary warrior, and I don’t recall any of his fights," Elsa said.

"It’s the same for me," Long Yi said.

"What?" Elsa was utterly puzzled. Long Yi, being a true god and also having the vigilance of a greedy snake, would certainly be alert if anyone, even any deity, attempted to tamper with their memories unilaterally.

But Long Yi didn’t know either?

"Be careful. If necessary, risk exposure but absolutely do not give the opponent any chance," Long Yi said. Although he did not know to what extent the so-called ordinary warrior was truly average, this single attribute was already enough to make Long Yi wary.

Subsequently, Long Yi checked with his comrades about this ordinary warrior. Because of Henki’s typical eccentricity and his evident strength, his comrades were not at all impatient with a question they all knew the answer to, instead they patiently explained to him.

The warrior’s name was Wu Se, from the second-ranked family in the Imperial City. He had a nickname within the military camp: the ’ordinary warrior’. Whether in training or assessments, he only did enough to just pass, never a point more or less. Wu Se was a low-key person, didn’t interact much with others, had few friends, and mostly kept to himself in the military camp, with little presence. His selection this time had indeed come as a surprise to many.

Then, Long Yi questioned his comrades about Wu Se’s fighting style. Their descriptions were similar: ordinary, nothing special, but he seemed to never make mistakes, whether in offense or defense, always by the book.

Was this enough to compete against Elsa for the championship?

Long Yi didn’t believe it, not at all. If he weren’t afraid of complications, he would now use his divine power to see what had influenced these people. For now, it seemed they could only wait for Wu Se to slip up.

As the main event of the group tournament, the duel was specially scheduled for the next day, so both fighters would be in perfect condition for the battle. Long Yi pondered the issue of Wu Se all night and couldn’t figure out what was going on. He specifically checked the tournament brackets related to Wu Se and was certain that before he heard the name for the first time yesterday, Wu Se wasn’t on the bracket. In other words, this person appeared out of thin air! And not only had his appearance affected the nearby Forgotten Ones, but it had also affected both Long Yi and Elsa!

This was of great concern to Long Yi. He confirmed his memories had not been invaded, so what means had the opponent used to affect his memory? Magic was impossible; the rules were impossible; divine power, even more so.

Wait a second!

Could it be time?

After much thought, Long Yi concluded that the only remaining possibility was time. Was Wu Se actually Suolin? Judging from the armor style, apparently not. And most importantly, if it was Suolin, he should feel it through their contract. If it wasn’t Suolin, could it be another Time Traveler?

As the competition was about to begin, Long Yi found an excuse to leave temporarily and went to a deserted place to retrieve the Giant’s scepter.

"Check the stability of space-time!" Long Yi commanded.

"An anomaly in temporal intervention detected, temporal closure is ’negative’, external temporal points are continuously intervening and correcting," the Giant’s scepter immediately provided the answer.

Indeed, in the definition of the Giants, time should be a closed structure, and once the temporal closure was ’negative’, it meant someone had broken into the time sequence. And this person was not Suolin!

Another Time Traveler who wasn’t Suolin, Long Yi remembered back when they were in the White Dragon Empire in the Human Realm, they encountered a Time Assassin. That assassin’s own strength wasn’t strong and Suolin quickly captured him. As for where that assassin went afterward, Long Yi did not know.

Could it be that this Wu Se is also a Time Traveler assassin?

Long Yi returned to the stands, only to find that whenever he passed by, everyone was looking at him.

"So, what is your answer, Henki?" The Emperor asked from the distant stands, elevated above all.

"What answer?" Long Yi was taken aback by this sudden and inexplicable question.

"It’s like this; our fighter, Wu Se, has decided to challenge both Elsa and you at the same time. He wants to prove that even his mediocre strength surpasses yours, and you two together would still be no match for him. Are you willing?" the Group Leader proclaimed loudly. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

"Oh! Of course, I’m not willing." Long Yi said, and to the astonishment of the audience, he continued: "As a warrior as powerful as I am, one person is enough to deal with him, I simply cannot do something like ganging up on someone."

"Ha ha ha, that’s Henki for you; always so bold!" The Emperor laughed.

Long Yi jumped off the battlefield and slowly walked over to Elsa’s side. Halfway there, he had already informed Elsa of the situation through their contract. Learning that this warrior named Wu Se could possibly be a Time Traveler assassin, Elsa was also surprised—it meant he had come from a distant future!

"I have experience dealing with Time Traveler assassins; you just watch from the side for now. If there’s a problem, I’ll ask for your support," Long Yi told Elsa.

"Got it, I understand." Elsa nodded and turned to leave. She knew that this was not a time for argument. After all, Long Yi had encountered Time Traveler assassins before and had some experience with time-related magic. Besides, she was not leaving; she was still there, so essentially, there shouldn’t be a problem.

In the center of the arena, the warrior stood opposite Long Yi, observing him carefully, and Long Yi did the same.

In terms of physique, Wu Se didn’t look much different from the ordinary warriors among The Forgotten Ones, but his presence was entirely different. Those Forgotten Ones, being encased in armor, always had somewhat awkward movements. This sensation was subtle, only detectable by someone with extraordinarily keen senses like Long Yi. Yet this Wu Se in front of him showed no signs of awkwardness, exuding an impregnable aura just by standing there. And when Long Yi saw his eyes, which, although disguised to look very much like the armor’s, were fundamentally different from the Crystal Poison crystals used by the armor, he could even perceive the icy gaze behind that crystal.

An ice-cold look, yet without any killing intent or hostility. This guy, he’s a professional.

But as a professional, are you just going to stand there so stiffly in front of me?

"Well, I guess we don’t need introductions," Wu Se took the initiative to speak, his voice filled with a mechanical texture that reminded Long Yi of the Time Traveler assassin he’d encountered in the White Dragon Empire.

"I suppose not, the journey here wasn’t too smooth, was it?" Long Yi replied.

"I lost more than a dozen brothers, only I made it, but thankfully, I did," Wu Se stated.

"Your actions are indeed quite simple and brutal. So, is your target still me this time?"

"Yes, I regret to say, your existence is intolerable to the gods!"

Whoosh!

Wu Se charged forward unarmed!

Bang!

Their fists collided, Wu Se halted, and Long Yi actually stepped back several paces!

This guy’s punches are kind of hard!

"Not bad at all, finally, something invigorating!" (To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to vote for recommendation tickets and monthly tickets at Qidian (qidian.com). Your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users, please visit m.qidian.com to read.)
