Chapter 1225: Chapter 973: Jealousy
Facing such questioning from Isrile, those few were nearly bursting with anger. However, the fact remained that Isrile and Ruosha were younger; more beautiful; more knowledgeable; had stronger research abilities; and they also gained more recognition from the Star Devourers!
"You are so much inferior to us, yet you have the nerve to rant and rave in front of me? Who gave you the confidence? I respect that senior Apostle because he is an elder, but you lot are nothing but old fools teetering into the grave!"
Isrile unleashed her fury, leaving them speechless. People were just strong, people were just formidable; do you disagree?
Several Apostles were near madness, opening their mouths but unable to utter a word.
"Ahem, let’s all calm down. Miss Lily, Miss Sasa, may I say a few words?" the old Apostle continued smiling through Isrile’s tirade, unperturbed by her words.
"Speak!" Isrile after having ranted, seemed a bit calmer, still furious but not stopping the old Apostle from speaking.
"This time, it indeed was their fault. It’s also due to my lack of oversight, as I had gone to meet with the First-generation Apostle in the last few days. I’ve reported your contributions to them, and in fact, the First-generation Apostle highly appreciates you. They genuinely wished to meet you. Unfortunately, they are engaged in an extremely important piece of research and won’t be free for a while, so they instructed me to make sure you both feel at home here, with every convenience provided..."
"We’ve never had a home since childhood, I don’t know what a home is supposed to be, but I’ve heard that my family should not wish to kill me!" Isrile cut the old Apostle off.
"Yes, exactly." The old Apostle said with a smile, sensing Isrile’s tone soften a bit. "So, the First-generation Apostle told me, all your requests must be fulfilled, that’s what family should do."
Isrile glanced around, "So now, what are you here for? All these people, just to tell me this?"
The old Apostle stepped forward, saying, "Not quite so, we came to apologize to you."
Isrile immediately burst out laughing, "My goodness, though I am not old, this is the first time I’ve seen someone apologize with such aggression!"
The old Apostle looked back and noticed that there were still many among the crowd who seemed discontent.
"We are here to apologize! Not to fight!" the old Apostle sternly chided.
Immediately, everyone’s expressions tightened, even the most dissatisfied lowered their heads. Perhaps they didn’t agree, but they respected the will of the old Apostle.
"Hmph, forget it. I don’t need your reluctant apologies. We don’t want to waste time here either; I respect that it’s not easy being an old man. But we sisters prefer peaceful research methods, harboring age-old men who like bullying kids and harboring jealousy is not a pleasant feeling. Thus, you’d better prepare a spaceship for me quickly."
Isrile was completely uncompromising.
"You ungrateful brat!" A person from the crowd jumped out, pointing at Isrile and loudly accusing.
"Look at you people, the old Apostle is standing right in front of you, and you can’t even pretend to apologize properly?" Isrile shook her head and said no more, pulling Ruosha to turn around and walk away.
"Hmph! Why waste words with them! All our Apostles are here, forcefully keep them here! It doesn’t matter if they die or live, but their knowledge must stay!" Another voice came from the crowd, but the face wasn’t shown. However, the Apostles were very familiar with each other, and by the voice, they knew who it was.
The old Apostle closed his eyes; he knew that today’s event would not end easily. He had intended to placate and fully resolve the issue peacefully, then let the two young girls conduct their research alone, and that would have ended everything.
But, he had underestimated the Apostles’ pride and jealousy.
These Apostles were proud, serving the Star Devourers was their highest glory, especially on this distorted planet. Apart from the Apostles, almost everyone else was brainwashed to stay, obeying the Apostles implicitly; they were akin to emperors here, enjoying all privileges.
Indeed, these Apostles were the emperors of this planet.
No, they held more power than emperors. In most planets in this plane, most emperors had to abide by laws, but not here. Here, there were no laws; everything was completely controlled by the Apostles. They were accustomed to residing high above all, and couldn’t even imagine anyone daring to challenge them.
Yet now, these two young girls appeared, possessing more substantial knowledge, stronger research capabilities, and even surpassing the Apostles in their research results within a short period.
Of course, that wasn’t the most critical issue, because no matter how strong they were, they were merely researchers. Among the countless researchers of this planet, they were the lowest.
However, everything changed after the baptism.
At the baptism, the two girls received recognition from the core of the Star Devourers and were even given two miniature cores! This was a far greater achievement than that of ordinary Apostles! And the old Apostle had even specifically consulted the First-generation Apostle because of this! This usually means only one thing in the minds of ordinary Apostles—they were about to be replaced.
Once this thought took root, it became difficult to suppress.
Hence, jealousy began to grow, eventually burgeoning into something uncontrollable.
Alas...
The old Apostle sighed inwardly; he had not expected matters to reach such a state. He originally thought everyone was striving tirelessly to awaken the great Star Devourers, but to his dismay, he realized that people are just people, and no matter the grandeur of their past ambitions, they ultimately fall into the mundane pitfalls of ordinary folk.
"Enough!"
The old Apostle shouted lowly, causing the space around to tremble, and with it, everyone halted. Every Apostle looked at the old Apostle in shock, as from the first day they knew him, they had never seen the old man truly angry. But now, the continuously surging space around them made everyone realize he was indeed furious, and naturally, the reason was clear—it was because of them.
"Look at yourselves! Consider what you’re saying! What you’re doing! What were your oaths? Was it to envy a few teenage girls?" The old Apostle’s voice wasn’t loud, yet nearly every sentence struck everyone’s chest.
It was indeed a strike, for as he spoke, the space vibrated continuously, and every Apostle felt as though a large hammer was perpetually smashing into their chests. Everyone knew this was the old Apostle’s anger; thus, none dared to dodge, and in fact, even if they tried, they couldn’t escape, because the impact would follow them like a shadow, hitting harder every time!
The old Apostle scolded them for a while, and Isrile and Ruosha stood by listening. They were well aware that their performance had convinced the old Apostle that they were indispensable talents. Naturally, they didn’t want to leave, especially without understanding everything that had occurred here. Moreover, this wasn’t the Emperor’s domain, and leaving was wholly unrealistic.
Therefore, she was curious to see what the old Apostle would do next.
After scolding everyone, the old Apostle took a moment to catch his breath. Then, turning to Isrile and Ruosha, he said, "Miss Lily, Miss Sasa, I know these people have disappointed you, but I genuinely hope you can stay. You can propose any conditions you desire, and I’ll fulfill them."
The old Apostle even promised without setting any conditions beforehand, reflecting his sincerity.
"Any conditions?" Isrile glanced at Ruosha, whose eyes flickered for a moment.
The old Apostle silently nodded—it figured, children are children, and the phrase ’any conditions’ could indeed attract them.
"Yes, any conditions!" the old Apostle emphasized.
Isrile and Ruosha turned their heads and pretended to discuss secretly.
"Well, since any condition... First, I want to learn that magic you just used." Isrile said.
"The magic I just used?" The old Apostle was puzzled.
"The one that causes spatial fluctuations with your speech," Isrile said earnestly.
The old Apostle was slightly stunned, saying, "That’s not a simple spell; it’s complicated..."
Isrile nodded, "Yes, I want to learn it!"
The old Apostle chuckled silently, hoping she would not learn it! As long as you like it, that’s all that matters!
The old Apostle demonstrated the spell again, as in his view, even though these two children were intelligent, research was one thing, learning magic quite another, especially since this magic was extremely complex. It would take them at least a week to learn—a week was enough to change everything.
"Okay, I’ve learned it," Isrile said.
What!
The old Apostle’s eyes widened in disbelief at what he heard.
Learned it already? Impossible, right?
Among the crowd, a few Apostles scoffed audibly.
"Who laughed? You don’t believe it?" Isrile turned toward the Apostles and asked, but no one responded.
"Tsk, tsk, at such an old age, daring to laugh but not own up, even a slime is braver than you, cowards." Isrile openly taunted them.
Immediately, three figures stepped out from among the crowd.
"You again..." the old Apostle was somewhat helpless; he was desperately trying to establish a good relationship with the two young girls, while those idiots were relentlessly undermining his efforts!
