Chapter 1046: Chapter 799: The Descent of the Heavenly Kingdom

If there’s any joy in being a Time Traveler, one would be watching history change because of oneself.

For instance, bringing a little technological aid to a just-awakened primitive tribe and watching them carve your image into stone tablets as if you were a deity. Years later, your image becomes the entire race’s faith.

Suolin had experienced this feeling many times.

Changing history was not difficult; the key was in how to do it.

In the beginning, Suolin was not adept at such things, but with every successful journey, and after many failures, she had become thoroughly familiar with it.

The Giants reveled in it, every successful time travel filled them with immense excitement.

The Giants had once selected a few Time Travelers, but they always encountered various problems. Eventually, the Giants abandoned the notion of training new travelers and began to focus on Suolin for missions. They substantially enhanced her vitality with their technology, freeing her from any concern for her safety. They also granted her a hint of Giant life traits, enabling her to contact the Giants as one of their own in any plane or timeline.

However, there was a minor issue that Suolin found rather perplexing.

Even though she was well acquainted with these Giants, the Giant scientists never once invited her to visit their world.

Suolin had always been curious about what the world where the Giants originally lived was like. But whenever she mentioned this idea, the Giants would deftly switch the topic with various excuses. Suolin was not someone who liked to pester others, so after being tactfully rebuffed several times, she no longer pursued the matter. However, it was clear the Giants felt quite sorry for Suolin, evidently held back by something they couldn’t satisfy regarding her request.

On this day, Suolin completed another time travel. After recording all the data, most scientists left. Only the old scientist who first discovered Suolin remained.

"Don’t you have to spend time with your granddaughter today, Old Walter?" Suolin asked the old scientist with a smile.

"No, actually today, I wanted to spend some time with you," said the old scientist, a trace of alcohol emanating from him.

"You’ve been drinking?" Suolin said in surprise. Did Giants also enjoy this kind of beverage?

"Haha, I have the day off tomorrow, so I indulged a bit today," he replied.

"Oh? Then why didn’t you continue to indulge yourself instead of coming here? Did you find me all alone here, looking forsaken?" Suolin said with a laugh.

"Look at you, you’re even younger than my youngest granddaughter, yet you’ve taken on such an important task. Alone in this strange universe, without your family and friends. Every time I think about it, it pains my heart," Walter said.

"It’s alright. After all, I am the only one who can travel through time, and that occupies most of my energy," said Suolin.

"I know, you come from the future, and the future, as you describe it, could be a world where Giants no longer exist, right?" Walter posed.

Suolin neither nodded nor shook her head. In such situations, any affirmation or denial could lead to memory loss.

Without a response from Suolin, Walter comprehended, "That’s exactly why you’re curious about the Giants. You want to know how the Giants from your history differ from the real Giants. To be honest, I don’t know from when exactly you are. If possible, I’d send you back to your original timeline. Unfortunately, we have no idea where that might be."

Suolin knew the old scientist felt somewhat sorry for her, which was evident from the guilt in his eyes. Suolin simply smiled nonchalantly, "You don’t need to worry about me. In fact, I don’t mind at all. If you knew what has happened in my life, you would understand that this kind of thing is really nothing to me."

Walter nodded, then shook his head, frowning, "Actually, seeing some things wouldn’t be remarkable at all. The council is just too worried. They fear that if others discover what we are studying, it would bring us great trouble. But in this entire multiverse, other than the Dragon Clan, who could trouble us? Some deity? Those politicians are such a nuisance!"

Speaking thus, Walter extended his hand for Suolin to jump into: "Come, let me show you around! If we don’t touch anything, surely just looking can’t hurt?"

Suolin suddenly felt a bit nervous, "Isn’t this a bad idea? If the council forbade me from seeing it, there must be a reason."

Walter shook his head, "It’s not just you they won’t let see, but anyone outside of the related scientists and higher-ups. But it’s just a square box. What could possibly happen just by looking at it?"

With that, Walter walked with Suolin out of the space laboratory’s grand door.

This was the first time Suolin had left the enormous lab since arriving here.

Outside the door was not the brightness she imagined, but darkness instead. It was then that Suolin realized they were in the depths of space. Darkness surrounded them, with only a few faint stars twinkling from distant realms.

"Look, that star is the Plane Laboratory, where we test planes. The star on your left is the Biological Laboratory, where we conduct various life experiments. Those biologists want to create life; I guess they’ve gone mad, trying to be like deities?"

And so Walter walked on in space, the void around them as if there were solid ground beneath his feet, his steps firm and steady.

Suddenly, the space ahead began to ripple.

"Ah, we’ve reached the boundary of the plane. Wait a second, let me open the door."

As he spoke, Walter fished out a device from his bosom and placed it on the space in front of them, astonishingly, a door-like shape appeared in the space before them. Walter placed his hand on the device and said to Suolin, "Close your eyes, it’s going to be very bright."

The door opened, and a blinding light shot out from within.

Yes, Suolin used the word "shot" because in her view, the light was indeed spewing forth from the door. Time seemed to slow down immensely here, even the speed of light seemed to have slowed considerably. The rays of light flowed like water, incredibly viscous.

Walter walked into the door, and Suolin finally saw the object before her eyes.

It was a massive cube, white, and immensely large. Suolin felt as if her eyes had completely lost any sense of scale, because the cube seemed to be shapeless.

"How big is it, exactly?" Suolin asked almost instinctively.

"Hahaha, I knew you’d ask that question!" Walter laughed heartily.

"Has anyone else asked?"

"Almost everyone who sees her asks that question. But in reality, her size is constantly changing. No one knows just how big she really is."

"So, how big is she approximately right now?" Suolin eagerly wanted to know the cube’s volume.

"I really can’t tell you, but I can tell you this, right now her body spans across the immensity of three planes!" Walter said.

Suolin was truly astonished, a gargantuan cube that spanned across three entire planes! Was this the grand creation of the Giants?

"What exactly is this?" Suolin murmured.

"This? This is the descending Heavenly Kingdom!" Walter said, filled with emotion.

The descent of the Heavenly Kingdom!

Suolin had heard about this event more than once from Long Yi or some other person, and it was after the event of the Heavenly Kingdom’s descent that the Giants’ technological development experienced an explosive growth! And this was the so-called descending Heavenly Kingdom?

"This descending Heavenly Kingdom... what is it?" Suolin still couldn’t understand, was it just a glowing cube?

"It’s knowledge, it’s treasure. It’s everything unknown that we cannot comprehend!" Walter said.

"We used to live in this plane just like the Dragon Clan, in a daze since the day we were created by the gods. War, expansion, assimilation, then more expansion. But one day, the Heavenly Kingdom descended, and I will never forget that day, that great light shining in the cosmos, with even the greatest light paling into insignificance compared to one-billionth of its brightness!"

"At first, we instinctively felt fear. No, not fear, because that great light didn’t cause us fear, we were simply in awe. But when the first bold pioneer made contact with the Heavenly Kingdom, he showed us all he had seen, those great things that even miracles couldn’t compare with!"

"From that time on, we Giants understood our mission, our power lies not in what we can destroy, but in what we can create! This is what the descending Heavenly Kingdom taught us!"

"So, what did you do?"

"We began trying to make more contact with the descending Heavenly Kingdom, and the Heavenly Kingdom always showed us the knowledge we were most interested in and best at! She generously shared knowledge with us, transforming us from barbaric beings into the civilized life we are now."

Walter gazed at the massive cube in front of him, enchanted. Even though Suolin was not Little Zi, unable to read his mind, she could still see the devoutness in Walter’s heart, a devotion that bordered on superstition.

"Was she this size at that time?" Suolin asked. Despite the dazzling brightness, Suolin felt no discomfort; on the contrary, she felt a lazy comfort as if she could relax everything in this place.

"As I said, her size is never fixed. At her smallest, she might suddenly disappear, and at her largest, she can span across dozens of planes. To accommodate her need for space, we specially created this composite space, which automatically adjusts its size according to the size of the Heavenly Kingdom," Walter explained.

"Is this technology something the Giants had mastered originally, or was it obtained from the Heavenly Kingdom?" Suolin asked.

"Although we Giants had some spatial technologies, we were far from this level. Fortunately, the first knowledge we received happened to be these spatial disciplines, so we almost immediately applied it to the descending Heavenly Kingdom."

"It sounds like the descending Heavenly Kingdom built a home for itself through your hands first," Suolin said with a laugh. (To be continued.
