Chapter 1032: Chapter 785 Bigger Trouble
"Bigger trouble?"
Ruosha and Isrile looked at Yi Zhuo, puzzled.
"Yes, bigger trouble, and it could even be the kind that is capable of destroying the entire Plane," Yi Zhuo said.
"What trouble? Be clear!" Isrile lifted Yi Zhuo high up.
"Wait a minute! You’re the Dragon Hunting Spider, Isrile! That biological weapon created by the Giant?" Behind them, another voice rang out, it was the middle-aged man who had just woken up.
"Teacher Mekar!" Yi Zhuo was almost scared to tears.
"Oh? Now you recognize me?" Isrile said with a cold laugh.
"Ah, since it’s you, then there’s no harm in telling you about this matter," Mekar shook his head, "Come on, follow us to the Golden Warship, we will tell you what exactly happened!"
Ruosha and Isrile had been thinking about how to take a look at this so-called Balance Church, and unexpectedly they brought it up themselves.
"Then we will go to your Golden Warship, let us see for ourselves what kind of existence the Balance Church really is," Isrile said, carrying one person in her hand and left the silver warship.
The four of them arrived at the golden small spacecraft, which had no weapons system and no crew to pilot it, the spaceship was still automatically controlled. The small spaceship left the dock and headed into the distance, the space in front was suddenly torn apart, and the spaceship flew in. Then, a huge golden sphere filled Ruosha and Isrile’s field of vision.
It was a pure golden planet, much larger than Whitestar, with countless large and small spaceships busily circling around it. In front of the golden planet, there was an enormously large Fissure in space, stretching tens of thousands of kilometers across the universe. Behind the Fissure, there was a densely packed cluster of planets.
Can planets be that crowded?
The small spacecraft entered the golden planet, and the four disembarked, passing through a series of corridors. After various transporter devices, they finally reached a huge conference room.
"Welcome to the Golden Warship."
At the front of the conference room, a hunched old man sat on a golden floating chair. It could be seen that many parts of his body had been replaced with mechanical parts; part of his head was transparent, revealing the brain inside.
"This place is more beautiful than I thought, I originally assumed it would be a more sinister place," Ruosha said with a smile.
Isrile untied the Spider Silk from the two men, then approached the table: "Can someone explain to me, what exactly you more than a hundred people popping up out of nowhere destroying the Plane’s most powerful country aim to do?"
The old man looked at Isrile, "Dragon Hunting Spider, as a weapon crafted by the Giant, I think you might understand the choice we’ve had to make!"
"What do you mean by that?"
"We say it’s to maintain balance, but in fact, as you have seen, we’re actually doing everything in our power to protect this Plane from destruction! This is the mission the Giant left with us!" The old man said.
Behind the elder, an image emerged. It was the very space Fissure Ruosha and Isrile had just seen, and behind the Fissure, the same densely packed planets.
"Star Devourers, that was the name the Giant gave them. A group of huge lifeforms living in the crevices of spacetime. They’re as large as planets, feeding on the consumption of planets. Moreover, they only devour planets with intelligent life. No one knows where they come from, only that they follow any opened space Fissure to the middle Plane."
The old man continued, showing a series of images—scenes of the Star Devourers consuming a planet. The Star Devourers opened their six-lobe mouths, a planet was crushed on one end and then completely swallowed into the body of the Star Devourers. In the blink of an eye, a planet disappeared without a trace, and the Star Devourers’ size increased.
"That’s quite similar to your Whitestar, isn’t it?" Isrile whispered to Ruosha.
"Miss Ruosha, are you familiar with this sight?" the old man asked Ruosha directly.
"Are you trying to tell me that my Whitestar is a Star Devourer?" Ruosha’s brows slightly furrowed.
"No, your Whitestar is merely a copy, its danger is not even one percent of that of a Star Devourer!" the old man said. "Originally, some countries did not heed our warnings and were determined to explore the Fissures in space. Every Fissure that was opened would attract the gaze of the Star Devourers. Planets were consumed, and we of the Balance Church paid a huge price to drive the Star Devourer back into the Fissure. But one person, one country collected the fragments of our Balance Church’s Golems and the information on Star Devourers, and they actually replicated a new Star Devourer!"
At this point, the elder was raging with anger.
"So what did you do?" Ruosha asked solemnly.
"We realized that the more powerful these nations became, the greedier they were, and thus the harder to control. And in order to protect this Plane, those nations that had grown too powerful had to be destroyed," the old man said.
"That’s too extreme a thought. I believe if you told them about this issue, everyone would cooperate to find a way to expel the Star Devourers," Isrile said, shaking her head.
The old man laughed, "I thought the same at the beginning, but the price was that there were still nations that did not heed warnings and questioned the exploration of space Fissures. And we, in order to save this Plane, had to face the invading Star Devourers three times! Out of ten Golden Battlecruisers, we lost nine! And I myself was left with only half a life! So, from that time on, we already understood that as long as a nation’s strength reaches a certain level, greed will obscure all reason, and no one can stop such a self-destructive group of people."
"So, rather than risking the destruction of the Plane, it’s better to appear from time to time and destroy all the powerful Empires," Ruosha said.
"Yes, that’s what we are doing. We don’t feel proud, but this is the limit of what we can do," the old man said.
Ruosha and Isrile were speechless for a while; in fact, they really had no grounds to blame him for anything. Each invasion by the Star Devourers required at least the sacrifice of three Golden Battlecruisers to fight back, and now there was only one left. If someone were truly to court death again, then no one would be able to stop the Star Devourers.
"So what are you doing now?" Isrile asked, pointing at the space Fissure in the distance.
"This is a fake space Fissure left by the Giant, big enough to attract Star Devourers to gather here. Even if another Fissure appeared elsewhere, as long as it’s not powerful enough, it wouldn’t attract the Star Devourers’ attention too much. But time has passed for so long that this Fissure may lose its effect in a few years. Meanwhile, the Azure Sky Empire and the Hong En Empire have shown a strong development momentum, so we have no choice but to continue our actions, and this action will not change just because you have appeared," said the old man.
"As for all you have done, we really have no right to accuse you of anything," Isrile said, "But besides this, is there really no other solution?"
The old man shook his head, "We have tried all conceivable methods. But these Star Devourers are neither biological nor mechanical. All their energy comes from their cores inside. And to destroy one of their cores, one must pay a great price. Because these cores can release energy that disintegrates matter, even the Golden Battlecruisers built for us by the Giants can’t withstand it for long."
Ruosha and Isrile conferred briefly. Obviously, if this matter could not be resolved properly, this Plane would never have any peace. Neither the Star Devourers nor the Balance Church would let this Plane rest.
"Is there any way we can learn more about the Star Devourers?" Ruosha asked.
"Do you want to help us?" the old man asked.
"Yes, we, as people closely related to the Giants, have the responsibility and obligation to help you," Ruosha said.
"Though we hold no hope, we still thank you for your help. We have two completely broken cores. We had hoped to study them initially, but in the end, we didn’t find anything useful. We truly hope you can discover the Star Devourers’ weakness, so we can solve these troubles once and for all," the old man said.
"Oh right, one more thing, can you hold off on attacking the outside world for now? It would really disappoint us if you went on a sneak attack while we are here," Isrile said.
"I promise you, we will not launch an attack for the time being," the old man said.
"Also, help us deliver a letter out. I need to have a few Emperors thoroughly investigate some matters," Ruosha said.
"Investigate what?" Isrile asked, puzzled.
"Exploring the space-time Fissure sounds high-end, but isn’t it a bit too early for these creatures who haven’t even fully conquered this Plane? Especially when they insist on exploring the space-time Fissure despite consecutive warnings, doesn’t it feel like there could be a problem inside?" Ruosha said.
"You mean there’s someone pulling the strings behind the scenes?" Isrile also understood.
"I don’t know, but if we investigate, it might set our minds at ease," Ruosha said.
Suddenly Isrile burst into laughter, looking at Ruosha. After a moment, Ruosha raised her little fist, "Are you asking for a beating?"
Isrile laughed even louder, "It’s just that I felt a bit sentimental, spending so much time with someone as clever as me, even you, the little fool, can have a moment of inspiration!"
Bang!
A heavy punch landed on Isrile’s stomach, and she stepped back a few paces, still laughing. Ruosha pouted and ignored her completely. (To be continued.
