Chapter 539: Chapter 538: The Reaper
Keith’s eyes narrowed as his breathing grew ragged. That presence had completely changed his entire perspective.
Yes, Keith had only just begun, but the more he used his power, the more everyone he faced felt like nothing more than chickens waiting to be slaughtered. Killing them had been getting easier and easier, and unknowingly, Keith had become more egotistical and confident.
He had started believing that with his new power, he was unstoppable, and that soon he would break out of the arena and live his life however he wanted.
But who knew...
He had been getting ahead of himself.
Keith felt his pounding heart as he walked toward his room. The fear that had gripped him was as though he had stared directly into the eyes of Death itself.
It was so overwhelming that even his legs felt weak, but...
Keith’s hand rested on the door handle.
It paused.
A wide grin slowly spread across his face.
"Why do I feel so excited?" Keith couldn’t help but mutter as he entered his room.
Meanwhile...
Far away in another part of the building...
An arena battle was about to begin between two high-level gladiators as the crowd roared with excitement.
Each of them had fought more than two hundred battles. Even the audience was of a much higher level than those who watched Keith’s matches, and the betting stakes were far greater.
"Who do you think will win?" one elderly man asked the companion seated beside him in one of the private rooms.
"Do you even need to ask?" the other man, who looked to be in his fifties, replied with a knowing smile.
The old man laughed.
"Yeah, true... The Reaper has never lost a match," the old man said as he narrowed his eyes.
"Yeah, I’m going to place my entire bet on him," the second man said before the old man hurriedly stopped him.
"No... wait. There’s a more interesting bet. I heard it was created because of one of the gladiators... They call him The Devil, I think."
"Anyway, the odds are much higher, but of course, greater rewards come with greater risks," the old man finished as the middle-aged man smiled.
Not bad.
Not bad at all.
After all, money had never been his problem.
"Alright then, I’ll give it a try. But that kid..."
"His nickname is quite grand."
"Can he really live up to it?" the man couldn’t help but ask.
"We’ll find out later. But for now, let’s focus on The Reaper’s battle," the old man said as his companion nodded.
Swiping across the screen in front of him, he muttered,
"Now... let’s see what this new bet looks like."
---
In the arena, the two opponents were already standing on the battlefield.
One was covered in a dark hooded cloak, wielding a jagged sword. His expression was cold, and his eyes were hollow.
The other was a giant of pure, well-defined muscle, standing over three meters tall and carrying an enormous war hammer.
The two faced each other as terrifying auras radiated from their bodies.
At this moment, the arena was separated from the audience by a thick, reinforced dome.
Its size had also increased from only one kilometer in diameter to more than five kilometers.
As for the spectators...
Since everyone present was at least somewhat powerful, seeing the battlefield wasn’t a problem.
And even if they couldn’t clearly see the fighters themselves, the massive destruction they caused was a spectacle worth witnessing.
At that moment, the announcer spoke.
"Today, we have two terrifying competitors!"
"First, on my right, we have the monster among beasts! The one with unmatched strength! The slayer of men and predators alike!"
"Welcome... Valcarak!"
The announcer shouted as the crowd erupted into cheers.
Inside the arena, the giant warrior raised his hammer high before casually swinging it around as though it weighed nothing, proudly displaying his bulging muscles.
"Tch."
Across from him, the man beneath the dark hood sneered in disgust as the announcer introduced him next.
"And now..."
"The taker of souls!"
"The god of this arena!"
"The undisputed number one!"
"The one whose enemies die before they can even reach him!"
"The true one born from hell!"
"Everyone..."
"Welcome..."
"The Reaper!!!"
Boom!
The arena exploded with deafening cheers.
Everyone knew exactly who this man was.
And they admired him.
He possessed the longest winning streak in the arena, sitting comfortably at over three hundred victories.
No matter how strong or terrifying his opponents were...
He always seemed stronger.
No one knew where his limits lay or just how terrifying he truly was.
They only knew that no one had ever pushed him far enough to reveal his true strength.
Now, he was about to face another powerful opponent.
Someone who could easily be considered one of the arena’s strongest gladiators.
The crowd was filled with excitement.
Many believed they would finally witness a glimpse of The Reaper’s true strength today.
Some of the bolder spectators even claimed this might be the day they witnessed his first defeat.
"Without further ado..."
"Let the match... begin!"
The announcer’s voice echoed across the arena as the two opponents slowly began circling each other.
"So..."
"I’ve finally met the legend," Valcarak said with a teasing smile.
Both men wore advanced battle armor that even the finest mortal soldiers could never hope to obtain.
"In the flesh..."
"Yes," The Reaper replied calmly.
Valcarak laughed.
"You know you’re going to die today?"
"I could say the same to you," The Reaper answered lightly.
Valcarak paused.
Then he swung his hammer.
Boom!
The whole arena shook as the hammer slammed more than a dozen meters into the ground, creating a crater hundreds of meters wide.
"We’ll see about that," Valcarak said as he lifted the several-ton hammer as though it weighed nothing and advanced as the air swirled around him.
Each step sank into the ground like butter as he accelerated, surpassing the limits of human speed before bringing his hammer crashing down.
The Reaper wore a faint grin as he spoke softly.
"This will be fun," he muttered as a sharp glint flashed across his eyes.
---
A few minutes later...
Thud!
A giant body fell to the ground as The Reaper stretched his body before speaking to the silent arena.
"That was a good warm-up," The Reaper said indifferently as he walked away, leaving everyone stunned.
What had they just witnessed?
A battle between supernatural beings.
These beings were clearly no longer ordinary humans.
Their speed...
Their strength...
They were like beasts of the wilderness.
Yet...
Even with Valcarak wielding a hammer that weighed several tons and possessing a body so dense with muscle that it could stop bullets...
He had still died at The Reaper’s hands.
Worse still...
They had never even seen The Reaper’s full power.
The crowd gulped as they watched his retreating figure.
Simply calling him a monster no longer felt enough.
The Reaper suited him.
He didn’t just kill his opponents...
He was the killer of monsters.
The title The One Born from Hell fit him perfectly.
In one of the private rooms high above the arena, the old man laughed in surprise as he spoke to his companion.
"Who would have believed these kids could actually break through their limits and advance? What terrifying potential," he said.
His companion wore a wide smile.
"I made a huge profit! Hahahaha!"
He burst into laughter as the two men, each for their own reasons, laughed with joy, unable to forget the battle they had just witnessed.
It was like drinking the finest wine and being unable to forget its rich, lingering aftertaste.
