Chapter 518: Chapter 517: Time is almost up
Morning came as Din woke up, his head ringing as dizziness washed over him. He had forgotten that he was no longer a Rank 1 being, nor even a weak martial warrior. All his power was gone.
Yet even in that state, he never hesitated. The little food he had with him was given to the surviving elderly, while the children received whatever remained.
Din stood up, his body weak and his vision blurry.
Although he truly wanted to stay and help as much as he could, he knew that remaining here would only endanger these people. That was something he simply couldn’t risk.
So he had to keep moving.
The sun finally appeared after three days of crimson clouds covering the sky. However, its rays no longer carried warmth. Instead, they burned like blazing fire, making one’s skin feel as though it were peeling away.
At first, people rejoiced.
But their joy quickly turned into fear and curses.
They couldn’t go outside during the day without enduring pain as though they had been thrown into a furnace.
Only the martial warriors fared better. To them, it was merely another unusually hot day.
Yet a mere mortal walked through it.
By this point, Din’s lips had become dry and cracked as the little moisture left within his body rapidly evaporated.
But he kept walking.
These people... these mortals... had already suffered enough. Even if he couldn’t save them, at the very least, he didn’t want to bring even more disaster upon them.
While all this was happening, Void watched with amusement.
The moment Din left...
Void might just kill every human Din had saved.
Just for fun, of course.
Watching humans struggle and desperately cling to life created an itch inside him that he simply couldn’t scratch.
It brought back sweet memories of the countless beings he had tortured.
The most recent one was Shen Ye...
Or was it Chu Su?
Regardless, Void loved every second of it.
So while Din believed he was saving those people by leaving as quickly as possible, Void was killing them off in the most brutal ways imaginable.
Void found the Blazing Sun to be quite profitable.
The atmosphere of the world had already been ruined.
This scorching sun was only the beginning.
Far worse disasters were yet to come.
As for the gods and the immortals...
At this moment, none of them could do anything.
Void had made sure every single one of them was severely injured.
That was one of the reasons they had sent their subordinates to hunt Din instead of coming personally.
They were so badly wounded that even an ordinary Rank 1 being could potentially kill them.
Their only priority now was recovery.
After all, the only reason the gods and immortals had agreed to cooperate, aside from their shared hatred toward Void and Din, was because they were both equally injured.
If one side recovered faster than the other...
The fragile peace treaty they had just formed would shatter instantly.
Finally, it was high noon as Din reached the city’s outer wall.
Half of it had already collapsed, while the remaining sections were riddled with holes large enough for several people to pass through.
No doubt...
Just a single touch would be enough to bring it crashing down.
"So close..." Din muttered as he stretched out his hand.
But alas...
Thud.
He collapsed onto the ground as unbearable pain surged through his body.
He tried to stand.
He tried to move.
But the next moment...
Darkness swallowed him whole.
---
"Ugh..."
Din slowly opened his eyes, feeling a cold breeze brush against his body.
His clothes were full of small holes, barely hanging together. He was almost naked as he slowly stood up.
Looking down at himself, he froze.
His cracked lips were gone.
The burns from the blazing sun had disappeared.
There wasn’t a single visible injury on his body.
Din was stunned.
Although he still felt weak...
He wasn’t as weak as before.
He couldn’t help but wonder if his strength was returning.
Excited, he clenched his fists.
Nothing.
He sighed.
Still...
He didn’t dwell on it.
He couldn’t afford to.
He was still being hunted.
It was pitch black outside as the moon failed to appear.
Yet Din could still see.
Without hesitation, he left the city.
A few meters away, he spotted a large piece of dark cloth lying on the ground.
With a deep breath, he picked it up and wrapped it around himself before continuing onward.
---
And so the days passed.
Din wandered from one ruined city to another.
At one point, he walked through forests, scavenging for whatever food he could find.
Yet despite eating so little, his body strangely refused to lose weight.
Only the weakness remained.
He endured like this for nearly twenty days until there were no more cities left along his path.
Only an endless forest remained.
A forest filled with monsters and now, perhaps, even more dangerous terrain after the collapse of the world itself.
But staying behind meant certain death.
Moving forward...
Perhaps even more so.
The difference was that if he kept moving, he wouldn’t endanger innocent mortals.
And despite the odds...
His chances of surviving within the forest were not zero.
Or so he believed.
A week passed.
A nearly naked human suddenly fell into a river, his unconscious body carried away by the current.
For an entire week...
He found no animals.
Not even insects.
Only scorched earth, quicksand, unstable space, and bizarre trees with strange-colored bark and leaves.
There was no food.
Most water sources had become contaminated.
The fact that he had managed to survive for an entire week was already a miracle.
Eventually...
He lost consciousness.
---
"Wake up."
Suddenly, Din heard a voice, faint like the buzzing of a mosquito.
Annoyed, he lazily waved his hand, trying to brush it away before returning to sleep.
The next moment...
Cold water splashed across his face.
Din’s eyes shot open immediately.
"Wh-What?!" Din jolted awake in shock.
"You were sleeping quite deeply, but it’s already been a month. Or do you plan on sleeping until they find you?"
That familiar cheeky voice echoed in his mind.
"Wait... Osiris?" Din said, stunned as he looked around.
He was lying on a beach as gentle ocean waves rolled onto the shore.
"In spirit, hehe," Void replied with a chuckle.
"That..." Din was speechless.
"You thought I was dead, huh? Not yet, anyway. Besides, you know you’re being hunted and all... and you also lost the power I just gave you."
"Wait... hold on... how? And why?" Din asked as Void merely chuckled.
"Who knows? But I think the real question you should be asking yourself is... how did you survive an entire month without food or water?" Void said.
Din’s mind instantly went blank.
---
The Fifth Layer of the Abyss...
"It’s almost time..."
Void slowly opened his eyes once more as he felt a strange tug around his chest.
How long had it been?
How many years had passed within the Abyss?
Even he no longer knew.
But he could feel it.
His child was about to enter this world.
And with it...
The time to conquer another realm was approaching.
A realm filled with beings truly worthy of their level.
Ancient monstrosities.
Existences that had lived for countless ages.
Civilizations built upon advanced power systems.
It was close.
He could feel it.
A grin slowly spread across his face as his left eye observed everything happening through the fragment of himself within Din.
Meanwhile, his right eye watched what Azar had become...
And how far Dreadborne had advanced.
He couldn’t help but chuckle softly.
"Hurry up..."
"Time is almost up."
