Chapter 498: Chapter 497: An unfolding story ( Din)
Void’s consciousness possessed another human as he grinned widely.
"Ahh, fun..." Void muttered as he stretched his body.
Seeing both the human and demon armies momentarily stunned, Void walked forward in his new body once more.
This time, the man was huge, almost two and a half meters tall, with a bronze mace in his hand.
"What are you all waiting for?" the man asked as he moved slowly and stood before the demon that had just torn Void’s previous vessel into shreds.
He smiled as the demon grinned back at him.
Then, gripping the mace tightly, he swung it. The air compressed, followed by a sharp, thunderous sound.
BAM!!!
Crack!
The demon’s neck twisted instantly as its body fell to the ground.
Gasps filled the air as the humans’ eyes widened, their expressions full of shock.
But Void grinned. He had accomplished what he intended.
When the first body he possessed died, it created a subtle fear among the humans that demons were invincible and could not be harmed. But with this display, it showed that the previous human had simply not been strong enough.
And it worked.
"Charge!" one of the humans shouted.
After all, they couldn’t run back. The people of Section Five were behind them, and they would die eventually anyway, so why not go out like real men?
With his shout, those at the front rushed toward the demon army, while those behind followed.
Of course, those at the rear did not know what had happened, but seeing the front lines engage, they followed as well.
The ground trembled beneath them as war cries echoed across the battlefield.
As for the human Void possessed, blood poured from his mouth and ears.
His arms hung weakly at his sides, both completely broken. Every bone in his body had been shattered.
Yet his face still carried a lunatic expression as his body swayed left and right.
Void had infused terrifying energy into the human body.
To Void, it was insignificant, an amount of power so small he could not even feel its loss. But Void was a Rank 4 entity, while this human was not even Rank 0.
Even without attacking, the human would have exploded under the sudden surge of energy that far exceeded the body’s limits.
It was because of this that the human’s attack had been able to twist the neck of a middle-level Rank 0 demon.
But kill it?
The demon slowly stood back up as its twisted neck returned to its original position.
Its eyes burned with fury as it lunged toward Void.
But Void only smiled.
He moved his body.
Like a whip, the entire body shot several meters into the air before descending even faster.
PAI!!!
A sharp cracking sound echoed as the body exploded into a cloud of blood mist.
The demon dropped to its knees, its head severed as its soul flew out.
Void moved on and possessed another body.
By this point, the humans had already reached the demon army, and the two sides collided.
Instantly, a thick scent of blood filled the air as crimson mist spread across the battlefield.
Among those at the very front was Din.
His heart was beating faster than ever before, so violently that he thought he was having a heart attack.
Each beat sounded louder than the last as he came face to face with the demon race.
Then the two sides clashed.
Holding his sword, Din slashed from the side while another human leaped into the air.
Shii!
Before his sword even touched the demon’s scales, he was already drenched in blood.
Din gritted his teeth.
After all, he had once been a soldier on Earth. His tolerance and willpower were far stronger than those of ordinary humans.
DING!
A loud metallic sound rang out as sparks flew.
Din was not disappointed.
Instead, he adjusted his grip.
The powerful rebound nearly caused him to lose his sword.
He stepped back and barely dodged the demon’s claws.
Just as the demon was about to pursue him, a long scythe came from the side and struck the demon.
This gave Din a brief moment to breathe.
He shifted to the demon’s flank, preparing another attack.
But just as he moved, a sudden change in the wind struck him.
A tremendous force smashed into his back.
Din was blasted forward as a small shockwave formed.
His entire spine was shattered.
Half of his skin and muscles were ripped away as he crashed onto the ground.
His fingers twitched as the massive loss of blood and energy caused him to lose consciousness.
Death quickly claimed him.
His soul had already begun leaving his body when a hand grabbed it.
"I choose you," Void’s cold voice echoed as he possessed Din.
Over time, Void had grown tired.
None of the bodies he possessed could give him that primal feeling of power.
They all seemed too weak, far too weak to do anything.
They either turned into blood mist the instant he possessed them or were too fragile to display even a fraction of his strength.
Just as Void was growing frustrated, he noticed this human.
His body was fundamentally different from the others.
But just as Void entered Din’s body, something glowed as a crystal in Din’s abdomen shattered.
The instant it did, Void’s expression changed as he appeared within a vast stretch of space.
It was dim, with only a small part of the endless expanse resembling a white room.
There, Void’s human form appeared as chains of crystalline energy gathered around him and bound him.
Then, slowly, a tiny, almost nonexistent amount of power was drained from him and transmitted into Din’s body.
Void’s eyes widened as everything became clear.
Of course, such a power couldn’t truly affect him. He could break free at any moment, but this crystal carried a divine aura around it.
It was clearly from a god.
This was merely a tiny trace of Void’s consciousness, but even that trace was still a Rank 4 entity. How could it be bound by the power of a weak god?
Yet Void wanted to see how it all played out, so he allowed it.
"Fascinating..." Void muttered, his eyes gleaming with excitement.
Wasn’t this exactly what he wanted?
All his clones possessed their own personalities, but he himself was trapped within the Fifth Abyss Layer. It had been years... perhaps hundreds, perhaps thousands. Void didn’t know anymore.
He was bored out of his mind.
He felt that if his true form took a step outside, he would inevitably go on a killing spree, and the angels would begin hunting him once again.
But if only a trace of his consciousness escaped, then it was still manageable.
That was why he had done this.
And what better beacon than Nuk?
But aside from that, Void still had an important grudge to settle.
He needed to destroy Darkseid.
At the very least, the clone that had nearly killed him back when he was only Rank 1.
And with how everything was unfolding, Void grinned as Din’s history began appearing before him.
Different ideas formed in his mind as he considered how to control this kid, guide a line of fate, and create his own origin story.
"Interesting..." Void muttered.
"Let’s turn you against the gods, shall we?" he said with a grin.
---
Outside, a blinding white light filled the surrounding dozen meters as Din’s body floated a few inches above the ground.
His body rapidly healed.
The demons attacked, but the moment they touched the light, they were instantly burned away.
Only after a few moments did the light begin to fade.
Around the area, both the humans and demons stopped fighting as they stared at the figure composed of light standing before them.
Of course, outside this area, the battle was still raging in full force.
But here...
Everyone’s attention was drawn toward him.
A middle-level demon growled.
It was the same demon that had killed Din earlier.
It was surprised that he had somehow survived, but it didn’t care.
It would simply kill him again.
Then it moved.
The ground shattered beneath its feet as it lunged forward.
It stretched out its giant palm, intending to capture Din and crush him to death.
Din, now glowing so brightly that only his silhouette could be seen, calmly raised a hand and parried the attack.
Then he gently placed his palm against the demon.
There was no force behind the strike.
Yet the instant the palm connected....
The demon froze.
Then its body burst into countless particles of light.
The surrounding demons collectively took a step back in horror.
