Chapter 620: Chapter 606: Secret Infiltration

An entire town had turned into the Netherworld, with every corner filled with various undead creatures.

In the streets and alleys, countless zombies were aimlessly wandering, with disgusting rotten juices dripping from them, corroding the ground to the point where no grass or trees could grow.

In the town’s cemetery, which was originally a place to mourn the dead and express grief, now had many tombs opened, and some translucent ghosts roamed over the gravestones.

Headless Knights riding Skeleton Horses were patrolling the area. As high-tier undead, they had even mastered some cognitive abilities, acting like a group of dutiful knights watching over the Lord’s lands.

At this point, even if a Bone Dragon appeared here, Chen Feng wouldn’t be surprised because this place was practically a miniature Netherworld.

These creatures were not local forces.

Even if there was a mutation in the world, there wouldn’t be so many zombies appearing, not to mention the presence of Headless Knights among them.

Chen Feng had summoned Headless Knights before — terrifying creatures with a powerful impact. Together with their Skeleton Horses, they could erupt with twice their own strength!

Headless Knights cannot awaken on their own. For a normal undead to transform into a Headless Knight, there are two paths: one is to ascend slowly through numerous fortuitous encounters, and the other is for a powerful being to slay a Golden Tier hero, severing the head, and then perform mysterious Revival Spells to fully resurrect them.

But neither path is likely to appear in this world today.

Which means, has this place been influenced by a powerful being from another dimension?

"Sacrificed the life of an entire town?"

Chen Feng’s expression was somewhat stern, and he thought to himself: "No wonder that Dark Department team of six was nearly wiped out; this place is simply beyond their reach!"

There are no absolutes in this world.

Even if the Dimensional Rift is relatively stable now, there are always powerful beings who can find blind spots and descend upon this land!

"I must eliminate them!"

Chen Feng frowned as he looked at the undead in this area. He could not accept a large number of undead creatures appearing within his domain.

They are like a ticking time bomb; no one can guarantee when it might explode!

Never underestimate the ruthlessness of any strong practitioner wielding necromancy. To achieve their goals, they wouldn’t hesitate to wipe out life and replace it with obedient skeletons or zombies.

Just like Saruman, don’t be fooled by his considerable contribution in the establishment of order; it’s solely due to Chen Feng’s deterrence. If one day, Chen Feng gave the order to destroy order, Saruman would undoubtedly be the most enthusiastic trailblazer.

Chen Feng wasn’t sure whether the ruler of this town was aware of the existence of order. And if they were, what was their attitude?

Were they watching from the sidelines or plotting some cruel plan to destroy the town?

Chen Feng couldn’t gamble on this, as it concerned the foundation of his power. Therefore, this death-reeking town had no other path but destruction!

"It’s said there’s a huge sacrificial altar in this town; maybe that holds the answers I seek." Chen Feng began contemplating in his mind, planning his next move.

"Shadow!"

Chen Feng murmured a word, and immediately, the shadow beneath his feet rippled, wrapping slowly around his body as if an invisible entity had appeared.

Stealth.

Concealment.

If there’s any summoned beast among many that can be equated with Saruman’s mysterious identity, this shadow undoubtedly fits the bill.

A shadow possessing Golden Tier power, through some time of research, Chen Feng discovered that it didn’t seem to possess life but rather it was an innate ability.

It’s said some supreme beings have terrifying escape techniques. Even if their physical form perished, the energy still contained a certain life, quietly hiding away, waiting for revival.

This shadow was mysterious because Chen Feng had never summoned a similar creature. It didn’t even need food or drink, existing quietly in shadows every day.

As for its abilities, it had mastered some rogue techniques, making it expert at both thievery and stealth attacks.

Chen Feng had the shadow to thank for acquiring the Endless Sword. If not for it seizing the Sub-divine Artifact from the Blazing Demon at the moment of its disappearance, the Flame Demon would have still retained a powerful trump card.

In a situation where the two sides had to battle, it would undoubtedly be very dangerous for Chen Feng.

The body of the White Dragon was too conspicuous, and getting too close almost certainly attracted the undead’s attention. Without understanding the situation, Chen Feng thought it was still better to use reconnaissance means.

With everything clear in Chen Feng’s mind, he swept with Demon Wings to the top floor of a building, his body in a semi-transparent state, merging with the background upon entering shadows.

The shadow endowed Chen Feng with stealth, and in this state, his speed would slow by half, greatly enhancing his evasive effect due to barely audible footsteps.

He could even achieve invisibility for up to a dozen or so seconds if needed, so he was not worried about the undead discovering him. A zombie passed right in front of him, having no clue it was facing a living human.

Large numbers of zombies wandered the streets, matching the information disclosed by survivors. Using prior descriptions about the altar, Chen Feng strode forward.

This town was extremely peculiar. The mastermind behind its decay had to be identified before further deterioration, uncovering whatever sinister conspiracy they harbored!

"Plop..."

A Headless Knight suddenly appeared ahead, seemingly sensing something as it turned toward Chen Feng’s direction.

Chen Feng keenly stepped into the building’s shadow, his body merging completely with the shadows. The shadow possessed powerful stealth skills, and the slight notice of the Headless Knight was merely a physical reflex. Upon reaching Golden Tier, beings would develop a mystical sixth sense; the Headless Knight instinctively sensed something unfamiliar, but there was no way to see through Chen Feng’s stealth.

Only with very close proximity could one rely on perception abilities and accumulated experience to detect Chen Feng. However, Chen Feng had already pinpointed its location first, gaining the upper hand. If he desired, alongside the Endless Sword, he could eliminate it in five seconds.

But doing so would also expose his presence.

Chen Feng reminded himself of his true purpose in coming here. A lone Headless Knight was not his target, and it didn’t wait here long before riding off with its Skeleton Horse.

Extreme caution was necessary.

This place had been remodelled to suit undead life; who knew what else besides the Headless Knights lurked, hidden away among the high-tier undead? Even with remarkable stealth skills, encountering a Lich or Undead Mage would mean a detective skill thrown their way could easily reveal Chen Feng.

As he ventured further in, the number of zombies increased. Though in stealth, the stench remained unavoidable to his senses, wafting into Chen Feng’s nose, potentially causing an ordinary person to faint from the overwhelming stench.

Continuing forward, Chen Feng’s view gradually widened. A grand altar appeared before him, most noticeable was the blood that spread across it, never coagulating, as zombies moment by moment stood upon it, tearing apart the prey and allowing its blood to flow.

A sacrificial altar!

The surrounding zombies appeared to be in prayer!

And at the center stood a scantily clad Desire Demon; intriguingly, a Desire Demon’s presence here was surprising. As a member of the devils, Desire Demons are ageless, using countless methods to extract the youthful essence they need from the bodies of men.
