Chapter 285: Jewelries.
Chapter 285
My eyes stayed on the bag for a few seconds, like it might disappear if I blinked.
The bag was small. Black. The surface wasn’t plain—the material had delicate white carvings pressed into it, thin patterns that caught the light when I moved slightly. It didn’t look like something forgotten.
It looked carefully placed. Slowly, I stepped closer, like the object itself might hold answers I wasn’t sure I wanted. I glanced around the room first.
The vanity was untouched. The chair where I had fallen asleep was exactly where I had left it. The hidden panel remained closed. The door to his room was shut.
Silent. Had someone come in last night? One of the staff? Had they left this behind? I reached out and picked up the bag.
It was light. Too light to be anything heavy or important. I turned it slightly in my hands, examining the sides, the seams, the careful design.
Then my gaze shifted toward his door. Closed. My fingers paused on the edge of the bag.
Is this his? The thought came slowly, cautiously, like my mind didn’t want to assume anything. I held it up, comparing the size, the style, the neatness of it. Everything about it felt controlled.
Like him.
My eyes moved back to the bag—and that was when I noticed it. A small piece of paper was attached to the handle.
I hadn’t seen it at first. My stomach tightened as I slid the bag closer, my fingers carefully pulling the note free.
I just stared at it. Because written across the front, in clean, sharp handwriting, was one word.
Katya.
My name. Not a mistake. Not something left behind. Not something forgotten.
This was for me. My grip tightened slightly around the paper as my pulse began to beat heavier in my chest.
Slowly—almost without meaning to—I looked back at his door. Still closed. Who left this?
My eyes lingered on the door a bit too much until I looked back at the bag in my hands.
Then, slowly, instinctively, I shifted to the side of the bed, turning my body so my back faced his door.
If it opened, he wouldn’t see what I was doing immediately. I didn’t question why I did it. I just knew I didn’t want him walking out and finding me standing there... opening something that suddenly felt too personal.
Too private. Too loaded with possibilities I wasn’t ready to face. Carefully, I placed the bag on the bed. My fingers just rested on the handles. My heart was already beating faster than it should for something so small.
Then I opened it. Inside was a box. White. Not the bright, cheap kind of white. This was soft. Smooth. Clean. The kind of box that came from places where prices weren’t written for everyone to see.
I lifted it out slowly, my hands automatically more careful now. The weight settled into my palms.
Not heavy. But not empty either. Something inside shifted faintly when I tilted it.
My throat tightened. I sat down on the edge of the bed without realizing I had moved, the mattress dipping beneath my weight as the box rested in my hands.
I just stared at it, then lifted the lid and my breath stopped. My eyes widened, my body going completely still as the contents came into view.
Jewelries. A necklace. Earrings. A delicate hand bracelet. All resting neatly against soft cream lining.
The color wasn’t bright. It wasn’t loud. It was a light yellow—soft, warm, almost glowing when the morning light touched the stones.
Each piece caught the light in quiet flashes, elegant and refined in a way that didn’t need to try.
Beautiful. Expensive and undoubtedly familiar.
My heart dropped. Because I knew this set. I knew it the second I saw it.
Chiara and I had stood in front of it months ago, pressed close to the glass of a high-end store, laughing like children as we admired it.
I could still hear her voice joking that if life didn’t start being fair, we would come back at night and steal it. I remembered the way we had asked for the price.
And the way we had walked away immediately after hearing it. It had been one of those things you look at only once.
Because looking twice makes you want something you know you’ll never have.
And now....Now it was in my hands. I didn’t realize when I leaned back, but suddenly I was sitting fully on the bed, the open box resting against my lap, my eyes fixed on the jewelry like it might vanish if I blinked too hard.
My mind felt slow.. How did this even get here?
Why would anyone...My breath hitched slightly as I noticed another thing. Tucked neatly along the inner edge of the box was a small piece of yellow paper.
The same soft shade as the stones. My fingers hesitated before reaching for it.
For some reason, my chest already felt tight. I unfolded it slowly. And froze.
The handwriting was clean and sharp but the words were simple.
Yellow suits you. Just like your golden eyes.
Nothing else. No name. No signature. No explanation.
But my stomach dropped anyway. Because I recognized the handwriting.
I had seen it before, when I was his nanny and assistant, on his documents and on that check that carried decisions that had changed my life without asking for my opinion.
My fingers tightened slightly around the note. This wasn’t just expensive. This wasn’t just thoughtful.
This meant he was watching me, long before he came here.
The thought settled heavily in my chest. My fingers brushed the necklace again. It was beautiful.
He had been watching me. Of course he had. Romeo had always been the kind of man who noticed everything. This wasn’t a coincidence. Romeo didn’t do coincidences.
I was still staring at the note when the door suddenly flew open.
"Gooood morning!" I flinched so hard the box nearly slipped from my hands.
My head snapped up. Chiara stood at the doorway, already halfway inside like the room belonged to her, her voice bright and loud and completely at war with the heavy silence that had been sitting around me seconds ago.
She stopped mid-step. Her eyes dropped to the box.
There was a pause. Then her eyes widened. "Oh.... my.... gosh."
