Chapter 1359: Chen Huixi: Extra Story (End) (Part 4)
Chen Huixi’s movements were very smooth, no pauses, no hesitation, no awakening, no recollection.
She just smoothly finished the noodles.
Qin Huai didn’t open the task panel, and the tear that had been lingering in Chen Huihong’s heart slowly slid down her cheek.
"Sister Hong, maybe..." Qin Huai still wanted to say something to make up for it, but Chen Huihong shook her head.
There was no sadness on her face, no disappointment, no tension, no anxiety. Although her smile was slightly bitter, the bitterness lasted only for a moment.
"Waiter, you can serve the dishes now," said Chen Huihong, then turned around and told everyone, "Let’s eat first."
Qin Huai turned around, facing the window, and gently opened the game panel in the void, checking Chen Huixi’s status.
Surname: Chen Huiniang/Chen Huixi
Species: Luan bird
Status: Deceased
Qin Huai sighed.
Still not possible? Aren’t I Feifei? Everyone has wished together so sincerely, yet Heaven is still unwilling to give the Luan bird one last chance?
"Qin Huai," Shi Dadan leaned over to Qin Huai’s side with some concern, "there’s still a chance."
Shi Dadan said very firmly.
"I believe there’s definitely still a chance."
.
At this birthday banquet, the spirits each had their own melancholy, but the people ate happily.
Jiang Feng’s culinary skills were indeed excellent. Most of the classmates were eating at Taifeng Building for the first time, and teenage girls and boys had the biggest appetite; with some effort, they could even eat two more bites if they were full.
Everyone ate to their fullest.
Even Huixi leaned back against the chair, full to the point of food coma.
"Huihong, the kids are all tired. Take them back to the hotel for a nap, and we can go out and play in the afternoon," suggested Chen Huixi’s grandmother.
Chen Huihong nodded, and together with Chen Yingjun and Cheng Gong, she gathered everyone to go back to the hotel to rest for two hours, holding Chen Huixi’s hand back to the hotel.
Some people could sleep a nap when tired, but some spirits couldn’t fall asleep at all.
In the private room, they could still somewhat put on a performance, but back at the hotel, they stopped pretending, and everyone gathered in Qin Huai’s room. Qu Jing took over Chen Huihong’s previous anxiety, pacing around the room urgently.
"How could this happen? I thought the birthday banquet was great, how could it not succeed?" Qu Jing was so anxious that she wished to pull out a few strands of hair, "The Luan bird is also an auspicious beast. Huixi originally succeeded in crossing the tribulation. Even if... even if the divine power was sacrificed, there should still be a chance."
It wasn’t just Qu Jing who was panicking; even the always composed Cheng Gong, who could usually handle anything with confidence, was now having a bit of an existential crisis.
Cheng Gong sat in the chair, looking out the window, murmuring, "It shouldn’t be like this."
Wang Gen Sheng whispered to Shi Dadan beside him, "Old Shi, do you think Huixi still has hope?"
"Of course she does, Old Wang, you have to believe in Xu Nuo."
"How about we call Gong Liang? Maybe he can analyze something."
An Youyou thought deeply, drinking the mineral water in Qin Huai’s room as she thought, drinking until she hiccupped before suggesting, "How about we hold another birthday for Huixi tonight? Have another bowl of longevity noodles, as long as today hasn’t passed it’s still Huixi’s birthday, let’s try again."
"If tonight doesn’t work then let’s have another late-night snack, as long as it’s before midnight it counts as a birthday!"
Luo Jun yawned, "And afternoon tea."
Qin Huai remained silent, staring out the window as melancholy as Cheng Gong.
Everyone had their own worries and thoughts; in the meantime, An Youyou even called the room service to send up a few more bottles of mineral water. After more than an hour, they couldn’t come up with any reliable solution other than An Youyou’s suggestion to eat two more meals.
It was Chen Huihong’s phone call that broke the chaos.
The call was made to Qin Huai.
Qin Huai hesitated for two seconds, answered the call, and put it on speaker.
From the other end came Chen Huihong’s urgent voice.
"Qin Huai, Huixi just woke up, she told me she had a dream, in the dream... quickly check if Huixi’s status has changed!"
Qin Huai hurriedly opened the game panel to check Huixi’s status.
Surname: Chen Huiniang/Chen Huixi
Species: Luan bird
Status: Preparing for reincarnation
It changed!
It really changed!
Although this "preparing for reincarnation" could mean many things, one thing was certain: Huixi had grabbed hold of a potential lifeline that might not have existed before.
Qin Huai read the status out loud and asked, "Sister Hong, what dream did Huixi have?"
Chen Huihong paused and said, "Huixi said she dreamed of a girl named Huiniang who looked very much like her and wished her a happy birthday, saying she was envious that Huixi had so many friends and family with her on her birthday."
"Huiniang chatted with her, saying she had no family, no friends, and had never had a birthday. But she had someone who treated her very well, and she secretly considered that person as her mother."
"Huixi told Huiniang that she had a very good mom, but she didn’t want to share her mom with others. However, she could be Huiniang’s friend and invite her friends to celebrate Huiniang’s birthday with her when it comes around, so that Huiniang would have friends."
"Huiniang was very happy and agreed to it, and then Huixi woke up."
"Qin Huai, did we... did we succeed?"
"Yes." Qin Huai replied, "But Sister Hong, what does this dream mean?"
Chen Huihong was silent for a moment: "Perhaps it’s Heaven trying to tell me that Huixi is Huixi, and Huiniang is Huiniang. In this life, Huixi is my daughter, and in the next life, the Luan bird, as Huiniang, will once again succeed in crossing the tribulation."
"I believe Huiniang will succeed."
"I believe so too," Qin Huai said.
After hanging up the call, Luo Jun spoke up, "Chen Huihong can’t possibly fail to cross the tribulation again."
"No one took a picture of me today, did they? If you did, delete it now."
Only then did everyone realize that in all the tension, they forgot to capture the precious moment of Luo Jun wearing a birthday hat and felt a pang of regret in their hearts.
Luo Jun, seeing everyone’s reaction, confirmed that no one had taken a photo and smugly yawned, leaving to go back to his room for a nap.
He was now a real child; after eating so much at lunch, he was carbon dioxide drunk and sleepy, and it was sheer determination that kept him going till now.
"So," An Youyou asked somewhat confused, "does this count as a happy ending?"
"Of course it does." Qu Jing, who had walked 10,000 WeChat steps, affirmed, "As long as there’s hope, it’s a happy ending."
