Chapter 1347: Chen Huixi Side Story (Part 1)

My name is Chen Huixi. I live in Yunzhong District, Building B, Room 1703, and I’m an ordinary associate of the Yunzhong Restaurant.

Compared to me, my mom, Chen Huihong, is more well-known. She’s a staff member of our local neighborhood committee and also a good friend of Master Qin from the Yunzhong Restaurant. Thanks to my mom, I get to eat Master Qin’s snacks at the Yunzhong Restaurant every day. He often gives me some portable snacks to take to school and share with my classmates, which has made me quite popular at school.

Yeah, the snacks Master Qin makes are particularly delicious.

But of course, the person I love the most is still my mom. I’m not her biological daughter; she adopted me from an orphanage. Even though there’s no blood relation, my mom is the person I love the most, and I believe I am the person she loves the most too.

Lately, though, my mom has been acting a bit strange. She said she has something to do and needs me to stay at my uncle’s house. Of course, I love staying at my uncle’s place. My cousins really like me too, but my mom is acting really weird.

I always feel like my mom is hiding something from me, but I’m not a little kid anymore. Junjun is the little kid. I’ll be going to high school after the summer; I’m about to become an adult.

Last week, I secretly told Junjun about my worries. Junjun said I shouldn’t overthink it and suggested that mom is probably preparing a gift for my 15th birthday.

What kind of special preparation is needed for a 15th birthday present? It’s not like it’s my 18th.

Sigh, it’s really frustrating. I’m on the verge of going to high school, and yet, I need Junjun, a little elementary student, to comfort me. It’s so embarrassing.

.

As Chen Huixi’s 15th birthday approaches, Chen Huihong becomes increasingly anxious.

Chen Huihong is a person who rarely gets anxious. As a Plant Spirit, she is always straightforward and fearless, with a "fearless in the face of death" attitude, believing if the sky falls there’s someone tall to hold it up, and what’s there to fear with a Bi fang around?

Now that the Plant Spirit starts to worry, you can see how serious the situation is.

Chen Huihong is already worrying to the point where she’s losing some hair.

Considering Chen Huihong successfully crossed the tribulation years ago and hasn’t failed any after that, Qin Huai suspects that her hair loss isn’t natural but rather from her pulling and yanking at it when she gets anxious.

As to why Qin Huai would suspect this...

It’s because Chen Huihong is pulling her hair right in front of him now.

At Qin Huai’s house.

The dining table that had long remained unused at Qin Huai’s home finally found its purpose. The small six-person dining table had two more chairs added to make it an eight-person table.

The central seat naturally belonged to Chen Huihong, who was sighing and pulling her hair with one hand while eating the red bean buns Master Qin recently made with the other.

They weren’t particularly complicated red bean buns, just ordinary ones with red bean paste filled inside, and the buns had cooked red bean pellets embedded on top, the kind you’d typically find in a regular Breakfast Shop for no more than 1.5 yuan each.

Qin Huai hadn’t been experimenting with elaborate snacks in recent years. Instead, he focused all his efforts on breakfast items, elevating the Yunzhong Restaurant’s breakfast offerings to an unmatched level, directly causing the office workers nearby to wake up earlier and earlier, developing the good habit of going to bed early and rising early.

Truly achieving the notion that starting work at 9 is a company rule, but waking up at 6 is my choice.

As the office workers began waking up earlier, many companies started allowing flexible working hours, with some even starting as early as 7:30 AM, and consequently, the end of the workday was also earlier.

The earlier end to the workday made it easier to rush to the Yunzhong Restaurant to grab some snacks.

The bosses and leaders aren’t associates, so they also need to go to the restaurant to grab food if they want to eat.

Sitting across from Chen Huihong is the elementary school version of Luo Jun, who is still in his school uniform, taking small bites of the red bean buns and looking quite displeased at Chen Huihong, with a look on his face that says, "I’m the future of our nation, yet for such a trivial matter, you called me to Qin Huai’s house for a meeting late at night, interrupting my sleep. If I don’t grow tall in the future, are you going to take responsibility?"

On Chen Huihong’s left sits Qu Jing, and on her right is An Youyou. Qu Jing isn’t eating the red bean bun; she’s quietly comforting Chen Huihong, while An Youyou sits next to Chen Huihong simply because she’s afraid to sit next to Luo Jun.

Even though Luo Jun hasn’t successfully crossed any tribulation yet, what if he succeeds all of a sudden and turns her into a charred toadstool with a single breath?

An Youyou expressed that she is no longer the impoverished An Youyou she once was. She now holds a 52% share in the Yunzhong Restaurant, has reached the position of the restaurant manager, and can easily cover the property management fees and utility bills of the Yunzhong District every month. She can eat cherries when she wants cherries and eat durian when she wants durian. Not only did she replace the offering table with rosewood, but the incense burner is also an antique. She insists on getting up at 3 AM every day to help the boss at the Yunzhong Restaurant, acting as an emperor of the working class with the shimmering gold of the Three-legged Golden Toad!

She is now far richer than she was before and can’t die meaninglessly without enjoying it first!

An Youyou expressed her ambition is to retire before 40, buy a big house in a sunny place, preferably with a swimming pool, lying by the pond every day to sunbathe.

Sitting on either side of Luo Jun were Qin Huai and Wang Gen Sheng, with Shi Dadan next to Qin Huai, and Cheng Gong, who specially came over to brainstorm for Chen Huixi’s birthday the day after tomorrow, sitting next to Shi Dadan.

The table’s fruits, snacks, cheese sticks, and nuts were all provided by Qin Huai, not because he still hasn’t paid back Luo Jun and is the richest (Luo Jun is not yet of age), but mainly because Qin Huai is entirely responsible for today’s scenario.
