Chapter 2815: Chapter 3816: Let Them Kill Each Other
Bai Ruozhu took some pills and gave them to him and herself. Her voice turned into a somewhat hoarse male voice, and Jiang Yichun’s voice also became hoarse.
"If someone asks, just say you have a sore throat," she said.
"Okay." Jiang Yichun suddenly frowned, "What about when we sleep at night?"
The mountain bandits don’t sleep alone in a room. He didn’t want Bai Ruozhu to mix with those men.
"I can patrol or hide." She winked at him, meaning she could hide in the Space.
"Alright, just be careful."
Both of them discussed with Jianqi again, instructing him to wait for the signal nearby and not expose his whereabouts at any cost.
After arranging everything, they returned to their respective "patrol" positions. Not long after, it was time for a shift change, and they were both swapped back.
"Wang Xun, let’s go and have a couple of drinks tonight." Someone came over and suddenly tried to pat Bai Ruozhu’s shoulder. Bai Ruozhu instinctively dodged, saying hoarsely, "I’m afraid I’ve caught a cold at night, my whole body aches, and so does my throat."
"That serious? Better see Doctor Du," the person said.
"I think a good sleep will help, I’ll head back first." With that, she walked toward the Room, stopped at the corner, and quietly observed the person’s reaction.
The person smiled and said, "It’s rare to find a good jar of wine; Wang Xun that guy isn’t that lucky!"
Wang Xun was the name Bai Ruozhu used in disguise. She didn’t actually know what his name was.
She didn’t hurry back to the Room; besides, she didn’t know where Wang Xun lived, so she carefully began to investigate around the Stronghold.
"It’s me!" Jiang Yichun suddenly appeared, pressing his hand over her mouth.
She secretly bit his hand; she wasn’t blind, she saw it was him, so why would she scream?
He was doing it on purpose!
Jiang Yichun chuckled softly. She grabbed him and pulled him into the Space.
"Did you find anything?" she asked.
"No discoveries, but I did see Ma Xingguo. His face is almost identical to Ma Tongfang’s," Jiang Yichun chuckled softly. "The Ma Family might suspect something, but they dare not say much."
"Should we seize the opportunity to kill Ma Xingguo first, let their morale fall apart, and then eliminate them one by one?" Bai Ruozhu asked.
Jiang Yichun shook his head, "I just observed them—they’re well trained. Even if Ma Xingguo suddenly dies, they won’t be chaotic."
"Then let them kill each other." Bai Ruozhu smiled with narrowed eyes, whispering into Jiang Yichun’s ear.
Xiaohei looked puzzled beside them. There was no one else around; why whisper? This Beast Pet wouldn’t eavesdrop anyway!
At this moment, a group of mountain bandits passed outside, seemingly led by a Squad Captain.
"Boss, do you think we can lead the charge?" someone asked.
"Hasn’t the Young Lord already said? There won’t be much Military Merit, after all, for mountain bandits suddenly being so well-trained, they’d definitely arouse suspicion. But a portion of the military achievements will definitely be reported if we lead the charge, and the merits will be significant," another person replied.
The Team Leader in charge said, "Stop speculating. Just follow the Young Lord’s arrangements."
"Boss, you should think for yourself. You’re full of martial skills but have no chance to display them. Why don’t you ask the Young Lord to take command?" someone suggested.
The Team Leader was somewhat moved, saying, "Alright, I’ll try. Don’t let others hear about this; it won’t be good."
"Okay."
"Yes."
The group of people responded consecutively.
Wanting to lead the charge opens up opportunities for manipulation when there’s desire.
Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun quietly came out from the Space, following the group. Not long after, the Team Leader told the others to go rest, and he himself went to find Ma Xingguo.
Bai Ruozhu gave Jiang Yichun a wink, and they quietly followed.
When they reached the Room outside where Ma Xingguo lived, Bai Ruozhu quickly pulled Jiang Yichun back into the Space to observe the situation outside.
"I am willing to serve you, Young Master, and follow your orders from now on." The Team Leader was straightforward, but also smart.
The people under Ma Tongfang sent to Ma Xingguo weren’t really Ma Xingguo’s people unless Ma Tongfang died.
But after the master dies, sometimes the subordinates might not accept the arrangements made by the Young Lord. It’s not easy to have trusted subordinates loyal to oneself.
"Stand up and speak." Ma Xingguo smiled, his square face looking very upright, but it was all an illusion.
The Team Leader flattered Ma Xingguo with more pleasant words and expressed his wish to lead the charge. Ma Xingguo kept smiling and patiently listened, only replying, "Alright, go rest first. I will consider it."
"Just consider it?" The Team Leader was somewhat disappointed but dared not say more, so he saluted and withdrew.
Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun didn’t hurry to leave. As expected, after a short while, others came.
Within a short half hour, several Team Leaders visited Ma Xingguo, all with the same request—to lead the charge.
Seeing it was almost time, Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun left the Space and snuck off to another place.
After some effort, they finally figured out where they would sleep. Although it wasn’t the same Room, at least they were adjacent.
Bai Ruozhu pretended to sleep in her place, and at night, she heard someone getting up for the night and muttered sleepily.
"Boss, I killed the spy you mentioned. Will the Young Lord let us lead the charge now?"
The person getting up had just walked a little distance when he stopped, hurriedly hiding aside. Was there a spy infiltrating?
Killing the spy could lead the charge?
This was Wang Xun’s sleep talk, or was it true?
And on Jiang Yichun’s end, he quietly got up in the latter half of the night, went outside, and seeing the patrolling people approaching, he hid in the corner and said, "Go find someone now. The Boss said if we kill the spy, we can lead the charge, so search separately."
The patrollers paused, and the leader made a subtle gesture.
"How many people? Five in total. You’re close to Liu Chan, find an opportunity to act; he’s one of them." Jiang Yichun lowered his voice further, "Something’s not right, we need to split up."
He scampered away, and the patrollers didn’t see anyone else, thinking the two had gone separate ways.
"A spy? That guy Liu Chan?" someone doubtedly asked.
"I saw him sneaking around yesterday. Could he really be a spy?" The patrolling people were from the same team, and that person immediately said, "I hear everyone wants to lead the charge; we can’t miss this chance to gain merit."
"Let’s go, catch Liu Chan first."
Jiang Yichun chuckled secretly. Ruozhu had previously noticed that the guy named Liu Chan was a cheapskate, stealing broken silver from a roommate and then acting mysterious to avoid getting caught.
On the other side, the person who got up quietly woke their Team Leader, recounting the overheard conversation.
"Boss, luckily our Room was full, or I would’ve been assigned to their Room and missed this. Should we pay attention?"
"Keep an eye on Wang Xun. If he attempts anything, you must act before him," the Team Leader instructed.
