Chapter 2797: Chapter 2798: Is This What You Think of Me

"Master, you must properly compensate me." After saying this, Quanxin weakly retreated back into the hot spring water and fell silent; it truly had no strength left.

Bai Ruozhu gently cradled Feng Cheng’s fragment of a soul and carefully carried it out from the space.

Suddenly, the fragment flew up towards a peach tree.

Bai Ruozhu’s eyes instantly reddened; she remembered that peach tree. When she first saw him in the Jiuli Clan’s peach forest, he was standing beneath that tree.

The fragment of a soul swiftly drilled into a peach blossom and disappeared.

Bai Ruozhu was startled and hurriedly called out, "Feng Cheng, Feng Cheng?"

Unfortunately, the fragment didn’t respond. Could it have been swallowed by the peach tree? This peach forest had blossomed a few years ago; perhaps it had already become a spirit.

Anxious and flustered, she blamed herself for being too reckless, for not knowing how to gather souls, much less how to revive Feng Cheng.

Unable to hold back, she began to cry bitterly; at this moment, she felt incredibly fragile and useless. Other things she could strive to try, but this... she had no clue.

"Sister Ruozhu!" Feng Wuxin’s voice sounded, a small figure approached her, handing her a handkerchief, "Wipe it, so ugly."

Bai Ruozhu cried even more sorrowfully, "Wuxin, I killed Feng Cheng. I could have helped him gather fragments of his soul, but I caused his death!"

Feng Wuxin shook her arm and pointed up at the peach tree, saying, "Look, it bore fruit."

Bai Ruozhu looked up through teary eyes, indeed seeing a small and exquisite peach, still green.

She quickly wiped away her tears; was she hallucinating?

"Is that Feng Cheng?" she asked Feng Wuxin.

"This peach tree hasn’t borne fruit in years; if it bears fruit now, it must be related to him." Feng Wuxin smiled, "He’s not dead; at least he can live again in another form."

"That’s wonderful!" Bai Ruozhu’s tears flowed again, this time tears of joy.

Feng Wuxin, the little girl who still didn’t comprehend everything, looked disdainfully, "Crying, so dirty."

Bai Ruozhu reached out and poked her head, "With that attitude, you definitely won’t win Xiaosi over."

"I, I don’t want to chase him," Feng Wuxin blushed, turning to leave, but Bai Ruozhu hurriedly caught up with her, changing to a smiling face, "Alright, sister won’t tease you anymore. Stay here, can you protect Feng Cheng?"

"Okay, but..." Feng Wuxin paused, "Tell Xiaosi to return soon; I want to see his progress, so I won’t have guided him in vain."

Bai Ruozhu chuckled, clearly wanting to see Xiaosi but finding other excuses, always acting like a little adult.

"Alright, I’ll send someone with a message tomorrow."

Feng Wuxin felt somewhat embarrassed and hummed before disappearing.

Bai Ruozhu turned to look at the peach on the tree, a smile forming on her face. No matter how long it took, as long as Feng Cheng could be reborn, she was content.

She watched the little peach for a while, then turned to head back to the bamboo house.

A tall figure stood below the room in the distance, eyes clouded as they watched her.

Bai Ruozhu’s heart jumped sharply; Achun saw everything!

"Achun, you..." Her words were cut off as Jiang Yichun ascended the stairs, returning to the guest room he was sleeping in tonight.

Her heart ached; Achun was angry.

She quickly ran beneath the room, jumping back through the window, opening the door, and going to the adjacent room.

"Achun, open the door, let’s talk." Her voice was low; she didn’t want to awaken others late at night or worry the family.

No sound inside, but Bai Ruozhu could hear his breathing; he didn’t want to see her.

"Feng Cheng died because of me, my biggest regret in life; I just want to save him..." She softly explained.

Inside, Jiang Yichun’s voice finally sounded, cold enough to drop ice shards.

"I know without his help, we’d all be dead, and the curse wouldn’t be lifted. But did you have to hide it from me? Is that how you think of me?"

"I..." She still wanted to explain, but wah-wah cries from inside interrupted, unsure if it was Bengbeng or Tiaotiao woken or hungry.

"I’ll check on the kids first; we’ll talk later." She said, returning to her room.

Jiang Yichun heard the door close and felt heartache; late at night, she worked hard taking care of the children, didn’t she?

But how could she hide it from him? Is he someone who doesn’t distinguish between grudges, forbidding her to save Feng Cheng?

Although Feng Cheng is a rival, he admired Feng Cheng’s character, grateful for all he did for Ruozhu. Knowing Feng Cheng might revive, he’d help with all his might.

But Ruozhu hid it from him; didn’t she trust him?

No wonder she seldom invited him to the space recently.

The children’s cries had quieted, but Jiang Yichun’s heart remained unsettled.

Bai Ruozhu sat on the edge of the bed dazed, just changing Tiaotiao’s diaper after he wet himself, and Bengbeng followed suit. No wonder with twins, perfectly synchronized.

Little Dengdeng opened his eyes drowsily to help change diapers. Seeing her eldest so young yet caring, she felt both moved and heartache.

Because their parents weren’t around, he had to do these things, while she left family and children for Achun, now Achun even sulked with her.

She never distrusted him, but Feng Cheng involved too many complexities and resignations.

Little Dengdeng lay back, arms tightly wrapped around her neck, "Mother, don’t leave..."

Perhaps sleep talking, yet it pierced Bai Ruozhu’s heart again. She gently hugged her son, not leaving again, never parting from them.

A night without words, but neither fell asleep.

Early the next morning, Lin Ping’er came to wake Bai Ruozhu up, helping to dress the three children.

"Why didn’t you sleep well?" She saw Bai Ruozhu’s red eyes, worried.

"Just too excited to be home." Bai Ruozhu suppressed her heart’s sorrow, hugging her mother’s neck and nuzzling.

Little Dengdeng nearby giggled, "Mother still acts spoiled with grandma, so shameful!"

Bai Ruozhu glared at him, "Then you can’t act spoiled with mother in the future."

"I want to; I’m still a child." Little Dengdeng said, jumping off the bed, "I’m going to find dad!"

He sped away, but Bai Ruozhu’s face darkened.

"What, argued with Yichun?" Lin Ping’er quietly asked.

"No, why would we argue?" Bai Ruozhu chuckled dryly twice.

Lin Ping’er poked her daughter’s head, "No one knows a daughter like a mother, can I not tell?"

Perhaps separated from her mother too long, or perhaps pent-up overnight grievances, Bai Ruozhu held her mother’s hand and briefly explained.

Lin Ping’er listened in surprise, wiping tears for Feng Cheng’s death, patting her daughter’s hand saying, "Child, you really have endured."
